  1. WHOA!!! NICE!!!! (and I'm jealous! lol) Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  2. C'mon Skymamma. It ain't that hard. Pick a spot that gets lots of sun. Till up the ground, maybe throw a few bags of good dirt on it. Either buy the bagged soil or get a couple 5-gallon buckets of good black dirt from a garden place. Figure out what you want to grow. Tomatoes and cucumbers are really easy. So is other stuff. Ask the guy at the garden place. Get a few of the 3"-4" plants. Around here they usually run a couple bucks for a 4-pack. DO NOT PLANT MORE THAN 2 ZUCCHINI PLANTS Plant them in the dirt so that they stand up. Maybe put a welded wire fence around it to keep the critters out. Water and weed it. If a guy like me can grow what I do (my best gardening skill is neglect) then you can do fine. There is no comparison between store bought and home-grown tomatoes. None whatsoever. Why not grow more than 2 zucchini's? To piggyback on your reply to skymamma-- it can be overwhelming but it's def worth it. Try looking online and getting on an online gardening forum for your area. People have always been kind and informative for me no matter where I've lived across the country. Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  3. bbbwwwaaaahahahahaha. Nice! Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  4. I'm a garden geek. Last summer was my first season on the west coast so it was an experimental year, but all my stuff did pretty well. This year I am going for some of the same stuff and a few new ones: Cherry tomato, heirloom tomato, early girl tomato, strawberries, zucchini, cantelope, jalapeno, green/red peppers, basil, cilantro, and a few other warm season herbs. My thyme, mint, oregano, rosemary, and fruit trees have stayed the winter and are flourishing! Just started my seedlings in a little green house to transplant in a month or so for summer. 5. If a republican is president, it is evil and illegal to help such people. If a democrat is president, then it is humane and justified to assist them. I don't think there are too many democrats playing hypocrite and claiming this is the right thing for President Obama to do....that it is humane and justified or anything. Just look at the poll on this thread.... for the people I've talked to personally in the past few days, it seems like the people who thought it was wrong to play the worlds police during President Bush's terms think that it's just as wrong now too. Definitely not justified all because it's a dem doing it. Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  6. Really? I am a federal workers and we have collective bargaining rights and agreements. Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  7. The point is that the staff told them they would most likely jump and tried to get them to pay. When they didn't jump they didn't get a refund. So, it the TI going to get paid for the jump he didn't make? Is the fuel vendor going to get paid for the fuel the DZ didn't use? Is the pilot going to get paid for the load he didn't fly? Is the packer going to get paid for the rig he didn't pack? Etc?????? Seems the staff is quick to encourage people to pay now and wait.... I have seen it. If the students had been told, "Hey, it might clear but we would like you to pay now... Of course if you don't jump then you will not get a refund" You think they would have paid right then? I have been at that DZ for an event and they wanted us to pay for all the jumps up front. The weather looked iffy so I asked about the refund policy. They told me no refunds. So I told them there was no way in hell I was going to pay for all the jumps in advance. They told me I had to... I told them that unless I was able to get a refund there was no way in hell I would pay for all of them in advance. Now, most Tandem students are not going to be so savvy. In the end, the DZ didn't provide a service, so they should not charge the customer. There was no additional spoilage..... It is a crap policy. This is probably the best post in this whole thread. Just think about this logically....No sane person would pay for a tandem after being told by staff "hey-- weather is iffy and it might not clear. Pay for your jump now but if that weather doesn't clear then just remember there's no refunds." Even a wuffo is smart enough to hang out and see what the weather does and then pay for the tandem if it looks to clear or be clearing. I understand there being a no refund sign....but I agree with other posters who have stated that there are always reasonable isolated exceptions such as this one. If this person was to have gone up on the plane and decided not to jump, then yea-- tough crap for them. No money back. In this situation I just feel like it's wrong if the customer was worked over to believe the weather was going to clear. They don't know any better. **Edited to add-- I'm not even against issuing rain checks in the event of not jumping. If a large group makes a reservation and then gets weathered out, then all of this is totally understandable with such a policy. What I don't agree with is a situation where a foreigner who strolls up to the dz on their last day in the area gets talked into paying now and waiting for their tandem later that day because the weather will likely clear (and conveniently leave out any reinforcement regarding the refund policy). 8. LOVE it!! Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  9. +1 for both of these DZ's. Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  10. I've only got 220 jumps. Still waiting to get some more numbers under the belt to feel comfy enough to throw nylon on. My new love for snowboarding isn't helping me out any though-- Matt and I have been chasing powder for the past 3 months and I've only put 2 jumps in since then! Doh! BUT.... when I do get around to throwing a suit on, that just means I'll have to make a trip out to the east coast with Matt to come play with you guys! Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  11. Bravo to the Pres for making a decision that was legal/constitutional based despite what his personal beliefs on the situation are. I definitely respect that kind of leadership. Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  12. I had to do this for an aviation physiology class during my undergrad. Definitely cool stuff and a real eye opener to the effects of hypoxia that will sneak up on you quietly. I would definitely recommend this for anybody who's even remotely interested in doing it. Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  13. Well, not everybody is like that in today's society. Based on this poll (like the lowest answer being 1-25??? How a bout a 1-5, or 1-10 option in there somewhere???), I seem like a freakin' prude! And I was even in a sorority! Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  14. I'll chime in only to clarify my first post, which was my understanding they were major sponsor throwing major money into a boogie. Putting swag out is something different. Tough situation.... I have mixed feelings. True, worth giving busy folks time. Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  15. +1 Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  16. For the first time ever I will have weekends off like a normal person, so for 2011: JUMP MY IMAGINARY BALLS OFF!!!!!! And finally get on my head in the tunnel so I can start going on HD jumps safely. Been waiting years to be able to be a weekend warrior.... can't wait for 2011!!!!!!! Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  17. Well, I'm an Eagles fan and what he says is pretty much true. A lot of us are assholes. After all this is the city that booed Santa Claus (to be truthful, it was because Santa Claus was drunk, though). Yea, me too. And I'd rather be an asshole fan of a city that hosts teams who consistently make it to play offs and championships, then be a 'nicer' fan from some other city who doesn't even know what play offs even means. Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  18. He also said he'd repeal DADT. And he did. Yet I don't see you over in that thread cheering him on for keeping his promise. [Note, this statement should not be considered my endorsement of the FCC's decision on Net Neutrality, but merely pointing out an inconsistency in turtlespeed's reasoning re: Obama] Why would I cheer someone on that I oppose? So you're basically saying no matter what this guy does you'll take a big crap on it no matter what? That seriously makes me take the things you do say with less credibility over somebody who might feel similar feelings for obama but is willing to admit the guy did something good/right when he deserves it. I was not a huge fan of Bush, but when he deserved applause, then I gave it to him and hoped he'd continue to do more things that made me want to give him an atta' boy. I didn't just ignore an action from him that deserved praise because overall I didn't like him. I think that's a little narrow minded, honestly..... and I think for whatever reasons, a lot of people had such hatred for Obama from the start and refuse to step out of their hatred box for a second to be able to do exactly what I mentioned above with Bush. Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  19. Would this be another all inclusive event? Honestly I think the event would be better off as a regular event instead of all inclusive. If you're going to have the otter (the only aircraft there) then limit the number of spots available for the boogie, set a price for jump tickets, and let people make their own way and plan their own excursions otherwise. I'm looking to incorporate a little island fun jumping with finally getting hitched with the better half , so we'd prefer a little bit of freedom to plan what we'd like to do. 20. My thoughts exactly! Why draw more attention to yourself? A.) Don't feel like answering all the questions from people. B.) I want to avoid giving security any reason to stop me through security. First few times I traveled in college with my rig I didn't have the extra suitcase to put the rig in. Now I have the extra bag and I've found that I've had less issues through security when it's in a bag and not begging for questions. Plus it just keeps it tidy and safe. Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  21. Ha! I'll second that down here in the Bay Area! Been a crappy few days. Even worse, I'm stuck here at work writing the forecast for it!! Doh!! Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  22. Ha! It's funny you mention that because I am so glad I moved from Texas to San Fran this year! Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  23. Damn John!!! How did we manage to miss out on a load that was going that high?? We could have caught back up with Ashley ... ;) ... Hey, now!!!! Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  24. My issue with the scrutiny of these types of expenses is that it rings extremely hollow. The same people who want to run through this itinerary with a fine toothed comb never questioned the $2 billion per week that we were throwing at Iraq or any of the other expenditures of the last decade. For example, when film and documentation was presented to a Congressional committee which showed abuse of a cost-plus contract through the bulldozing of new computers and the blowing up of a tanker truck because it had a flat tire, the response from a Rep. of Georgia was "what do you have against profit?" Suddenly, as of January 2009, the right is concerned with wasteful spending and wants to attack every nickel spent on a Democratic politician's activities. I'm all for cutting waste too but let's not leave it to partisan pettiness. Like Anderson Cooper said, there's plenty of real crap to be pissed off about. No need to make shit up. BINGO!!! Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  25. I don't think that the president's trip was the point the OP was trying to make... instead, pointing out the fact that she totally disregarded the question AC laid out for her and immediately deflected it to be about how much the president was spending on the trip. And if we're on the topic of this trip costing 200M per day: http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/india.asp http://factcheck.org/2010/11/ask-factcheck-trip-to-mumbai/ Looks like it's not true, and to quote the article from factcheck.org: "This story has spread rapidly among the president’s critics, but there is simply no evidence to support it. And common sense should lead anyone to doubt it. Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
