Do those have problems with 'tearing'? I had a white Cocka-poo growing up and she always had such brown streaks if we didn't keep her eye areas very clean. My white Boxer has that problem. He get streaks from tearing - as does my black and white cat (his face is white). I am CONSTANTLY wiping their eyes and trying to keep the eye snot to a minimum.

To me, absolutely NOTHING!!!

I like to refer to his black colouring as "age spots". They're actually on his skin. When he was younger, the spots were only visible when he was wet. As far as colouring, according to the American Kennel Club here's their standards. Cliff notes = white is not accepted. The colors are fawn and brindle. Fawn shades vary from light tan to mahogany. The brindle ranges from sparse but clearly defined black stripes on a fawn background to such a heavy concentration of black striping that the essential fawn background color barely, although clearly, shows through (which may create the appearance of reverse brindling). White markings, if present, should be of such distribution as to enhance the dog's appearance, but may not exceed one-third of the entire coat. They are not desirable on the flanks or on the back of the torso proper. On the face, white may replace part of the otherwise essential black mask, and may extend in an upward path between the eyes, but it must not be excessive, so as to detract from true Boxer expression. The absence of white markings, the so-called "plain" fawn or brindle, is perfectly acceptable, and should not be penalized in any consideration of color. Disqualifications Boxers that are any color other than fawn or brindle. Boxers with a total of white markings exceeding one-third of the entire coat. 'Shell

You probably know what I love most but here he is again! The BOXER!!
-
Up until recently white puppies were culled from the litter. When my brother found Herc, the breeder didn't want to let him have him. You can't breed white Boxers. My brother didn't want him for breeding. He wanted him as a pet. Thankfully they agreed to let him have Herc as a pet, as long as he was fixed and proof was provided. Boxers are AMAZING dogs, regardless of their colour. To be honest, I think the white ones are more handsome.

Get a Boxer. There's no better "friend" than a big slobbering Boxer!

Well, I can tell you first hand what a Boxer's temperment is. They are very BIG, SLOBBERING, LOVING dogs. Mine's 85 lbs of "lap dog". He has a cat. His cat is 9 lbs (my MIA cat from a previous thread). Herc is SO gentle with him and Teko LOVES him as well - despite the fact that he ends up quite 'wet' after an encounter with his favourite dog. And he has been around kids all his life (he's 6 ... the kids are now 11 and 13). He LOVES them to death. And is so gentle with them. And he listens to them more than he listens to me. And thank you for saying Boxers are beautiful.

Wine tonight. Painted Turtle? I wish - not even Naked grape. Should I tell you that Naked Grape is on sale right now. For a whopping $7.99 a bottle. Probably not. Never mind. Grrrr - But in retrospect - i don't need wine for naked Turtle. Good point! Naked Turtle, Painted Grape ... whatever! Oh, and I lied. It's on sale for $6.99 a bottle! You suck. That's merely a rumour ... I'd like to test that theory. I would hope you're not the only one. Sorry ... that was REALLY trashy. But I'm feeling that way today. Bah ... whadevva ... 'Shell

My tomatoes have been taking a long time to ripen too, due to a rather chilly August. What I've been doing is when they start to ripen and turn yellowish-orange, I've been pulling them off the vine and putting them in a cardboard box with a lid. I've kept it in a cool area of my house. So far, they've been ripening like CRAZY in the box. I pull off 2 or 3 every few days and put them in there. Every 4 days or so, I have 2 or 3 that are ripe. Granted they're not nearly as "sweet" as they are ripened off the vine but they're still pretty tasty! 'Shell

I disagree. Certainly some attacks are due to stupid owners, but examples of good pitbulls that wouldn't hurt anyone don't cancel out all the examples of unprovoked attacks. It seems that I usually hear the owners of those dogs claim that they can't understand it, their dogs had always been such a gentle family pet, etc. To claim that there is not difference in risk for different breeds is not realistic. There are desirable behavioral characteristics that are claimed to be different for different breeds, why should we believe it doesn't apply for undesirable characteristics? You're right. There are undesirable characterics in all breeds. As are there desirable characteristics. And I still maintain that the way any animal behaves is mostly due to how they're raised. The only pit bulls I've known have been very well behaved, loving animals. And I think it has EVERYTHING to do with how they've been raised. Have I met an aggressive pit bull - no I haven't. But I don't have friends that would treat their pets badly either. They spend HOURS with their pets socializing and training them. Their pets are part of the "family". Maybe that has a lot to do with it. Any dog can attack. I know this first hand. I was bit by a dog a few years ago and it was COMPLETELY unprovoked. And it wasn't an "evil" purebred either. It was your run of the mill "mutt". (We've mended our fences - he and I are pretty good friends now

Okay, they are BOTH cuties! LOVE the smiles on both their faces!

Banging your head is right. Oh well. And thanks. I love my dog and his little girlfriend too! While she doesn't live here, she comes by whenever she likes. My neighbour ALWAYS knows where she is when she escapes from the yard! She escapes to MY yard!

Turbo sounds like an absolute sweety! You need to post a pic of him. My boxer is often mistaken for a pit bull. It's funny how people assume he is one and are terrified of him when they see him (probably because of the hype surrounding the breed and the fact that the only stories in the paper are about the "bad" ones). Once I explain that he's actually a pure bred boxer, they're suddenly all over him scratching him behind the ears and rubbing his belly. Then they mutter something about how agressive pit bulls are and they should have known he wasn't one because he's so gentle. Friends of mine have a pit bull who's even MORE gentle than Herc is. Herc's little girlfriend across the alley is a pit bull/boxer cross. She doesn't have a mean bone in her body and she is SMART! I wish people wouldn't assume the "breed" is bad. It's not the breed. It's stupid owners. (edited to add a picture of Kiera, Herc's girlfriend). 'Shell

See if there's a Wildlife Refuge Centre in your area or a bird sanctuary (here, it was through the University of Alberta so check your local University or College - I took a bird there that my cheeky cat caught one day - he survived). And good luck!

That's good that you're going to ask him about it as I think that will put your mind at ease. You strike me as being a very logical person which is probably why this is freaking you out. There's no logic to it. Personally, I think you're reading WAY too much into it. So she's a freaky girl with a tackle box face. I knew a girl like that once. She turned out to be pretty cool. "Don't judge a book.." comes to mind. Keep an open mind and I hope it turns out to be nothing. And promise that you'll let us know what he says. This is rather interesting. I'm curious as to what the symbols mean myself! Good luck!

No, I think the lesson is everyone expresses grief differently. And that's okay. I never met Shannon but I read her posts here. And I'm raising a glass to her right now. And I'm with Amazon ... where is that damn wine icon.
