  1. One thing that bugs me about Blue Skies, is that they list November skydiving events in November. Usually, I don't get the copy until well into the first or second week of the month, and maybe half of the events are currently underway, or already over. They should also list December events in November - give people a chance to get there, or at least try to follow it. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  2. Then the entire season got lost in the time-continuum, so I guess it never really happened. Er, happens. I mean it doesn't ever happen. Of course, it's Star Trek, fiction, so it's safe to say it won't really ever happen. But what I really mean, is in the show, that season, taking place in the future, the fictional events of that year, which is to say, in a present date, which created several shows for a season, at the end of that season, those events never took place, due to some very complicated temporal logistics. 3. After his breakthrough success in the 80's, Pac-Man is reduced to robbing banks to make a living. The ghosts had to catch him sooner or later. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  4. It's kinda funny that when Communist China rolled into Tibet, over 50 years ago, they claimed they were "freeing" Tibetans from the influence of foreigners in their government. I guess the word freedom can be used as an excuse to start any war ... I wonder how many civilian women and children we killed in Iraq, in order to give them their "freedom"? 5. He's probably right that Anne Coulter would make a good soldier. She's proven she can duck. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  6. I'm very sorry to hear, but I'm glad that you were on good terms. Long life, five children and they all outlived him - that's as much as a man can reasonably ask for. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  7. it's a longshot when it's only your word against the word of five police officers, four confirmed witnesses and five video cameras, especially when the incident is at Wal-Mart: http://www.cnn.com/2009/CRIME/11/19/walmart.trial/index.html Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  8. Very rude to write a story like that and no instructional video I wanna see what to look for. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  9. What's interesting to me about this is how rhetoric from the healthcare industry shapes the opinions of the hoi polloi. Instead of thinking about what best approach to our own health, people instead quote what the politicians say, which comes directly from an industry that doesn't want us to be healthy. "2012" on Speed

Proof that even CG can "chew the scenery". I love the escape-by-airplane concept. Even though the ground underneath is falling thousands of feet, the air above is smooth as silk - no turbulence there Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  12. New York Times Disgusting - our politicians are nothing more than puppets for the corporations, they can't even write their own speeches. IMO, the only "debate" about healthcare reform is how to maximize profit for the hospitals and drug companies. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  13. The latest is that they (NASA) have found a "significant" amount of water. But significant, relative to what? They haven't released estimates about PPM. This smells of typical NASA P.R. - in my experience dealing with them, they were more interested in cheering "mission accomplished" and trying to justify the money spent on each program than in showing scientific data in an objective format. There's water in rocks in the desert - it's all a matter of what you call significant. If there's enough water that we can harvest it for lunar exploration (and maybe even mine it for fuel), then that really is significant. I have doubts that there's enough there for us to really make use of. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  14. In the U.S.? I'm absolutely sure we have nothing to worry about. Here is a story about a nice young Marine that attacked a Greek priest because he looked Muslim. Apparently, in the U.S., one has to be on their guard for simply looking like a member of the hate-of-the-day club. Imagine what could have happened if the Greek fellow really was a Muslim! 15. I think there's some confusion here between Web Development Applications and Content Management Systems. The difference is both subtle and significant. I'm guessing from your original post, you'll want a Web Development Application - I recommend Dream Weaver. Do I use it? No, I code by hand. But it works well for a lot of people that don't want to get down and dirty building HTML. If you just want to put information on a website, and you're the only person to post info, use a Web Development Application (there are some great free ones, like Coffee Cup). Content Management Systems (CMS), like DotNetNuke, are more typically used for a larger website that has a lot of changing information and multiple admins. I'm currently building a large CMS for the State that will have hundreds of admins (using Umbraco). These typically require a lot of knowledge of coding (.net, java, Python, PHP, Coldfusion, etc) I'm guessing you don't need something like that. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  16. Muslim: it's the new Black. I once heard that guy say that accepting homosexuality in a society is a precursor to accepting child-molestation, and that as soon as we think it's OK for homosexuals to be living amongst us, "those people" would start getting us to accept that it's OK to rape children. 19. It may be in some states, but I can say that's not the case in Colorado. A girl I knew was in jail for five weeks (after several DUIs), and she was inside with several young women that had children with young men that were under 18. Most of them were just a few years older (21/17, or 18/16), but as soon as anyone found out, they were tossed in jail, the grandparents had to take over raising the children, etc. There were no problems between the young men and women or their children, but the state thought it was better to throw them in prison. Lesson is don't mess around with the age of consent - it's not fair to young people, but the law usually discriminates against someone. Ironically, the girl just had her ex-boyfriend thrown in prison this weekend Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  20. I was taking a boat tour in Acadia some years ago, and the guide didn't have too high of an opinion of Eagles. He was talking about how they stole most of their food from all the other birds and animals, rather than hunting themselves. I think the lobster farmers there have quite a few problems with them as well. But these are very cool pictures - thanks for sharing. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  21. If you've had your BB for a while, you need to download the latest OS from Blackberry - that means downloading the OS from the BB website, hooking up your computer to the thing, and installing it to the phone. It'll take a bit of time to do all that. But once you have, you'll have a new program called "Blackberry app world". You can then surf around for Blackberry apps. There aren't as many as for the iPhone, but there are more than enough to keep you busy. I use Viigo and Facebook frequently, Xenouzu and Shazam once in a while. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. 22. True. I have a SQA-5H (squash) Windows Home Server that backs up my data every night, and serves as a good media-streamer as well. Worth the money. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

  25. I remember the Internet backlash of 2000, which led to the dot-com recession of 2001. I kinda feel a Facebook backlash starting (there was a line in the recent movie "Zombieland" that is relevant). Of course, they're not a public company, so they'll probably whether the storm a bit better. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
