  1. Work the problem people,... The side issue of: "static electricity," is not the issue. C But what do I know, "I only have one tandem jump."
  2. Yes, because Cypres hasn't had any issues at all. Dude congrats on your new rig
  3. Are you having a vacation or are you ready to learn? Both of the places you have mentioned are fine places to learn, both might be intimidating for a newbe??? One of the other comments was regarding where you are now because Jim is also a great instuctor and there are many benifits staying local. I mention this because personlly I have issues with the get your AFF in two days type of thinking. DeLand has more student rigs to answer your question, but the student rigs at Z hills are adjustable as well. Most of the time these places have rigs sitting on the wall and this is a non issue...the issue is your size? call ahead... both places can get busy on occasions. Skydive U at DeLand is highly reccommmended, call ahead,...but with all of these places they are not waiting around for you to show up, many of the wonderfull instructors have other jobs and sometimes the buissness vibe so to speak can put off many at DeLand who are expecting a hold your hand kind of atmosphere. Then again Skydive U at DeLand is probabley responsible for training many of the instuctors everywhere else, Ya I know this might seem to be a ballsy statment using the word "everyone else" but ya have to admit laidlaw did have a big hand in writing the ISP. And more world champion instuctors have worked there, short of Arizona, than anywhere else. To answer your question about developed student programs SDU's AFF / windtunnel program is the most structured, of any I have seen and I have seen the majority of what is out there...THIS IS NOT SAYING that many of the others out there are less than in any way! And yes there are a few out there that are terrible, but yo haven't asked about them...The word we use is fun jumpers V tandem mills...neither Z hills, or DeLand is even remotly associated with the words tandem mills. (I think) Just my t cents C But what do I know, "I only have one tandem jump."
  4. I think the words you chose to use regarding "YOU CAN SECRETLY SWITCH OUT THE FAULTY COMPONENTS." to be somewhat offensive! Perhaps you didn't quite realize the full implications under the influence of whatever...of what you were saying... C But what do I know, "I only have one tandem jump."
  5. I can appreciate anyone’s desire to give a wonderful manufacturer a little lee way to see how and in what fashion they will ultimately approach/handle this issue. The obvious time-bomb is however the fact that the unit, when you look at it, it appears ok! I believe the quote was "[]...it will have a... 0 on the display...[]." In other words it will appear NORMAL, but in reality it doesn’t work. Waiting for the manufacturer to respond under these circumstances in quite simply unacceptable! While I can understand some comments about checking your AAD every jump, and comments like "a little [] inconvenience..." may at first sound plausible they are nevertheless unacceptable. It is unfortunate that this has happened to this company because it sounds like it was beyond their control. Their response to their customers however is not beyond their control and their response should be an immediate recall of all defective units. Any response short of recalling defective equipment is a slap in every one of their customers faces! In a very real sense they have just indicated what their position is by electing to NOT service all existing units to the best of their abilities! Do I give SSK any leeway for informing the general public about this issue in the first place? No not really, because responsibility can be a deal breaker and this issue is their responsibility, not ours! You have seen their response. My response is to remove the unit from any rig I have control over until they fix their problem at their cost! C But what do I know, "I only have one tandem jump."
  6. Sombody ask Jerry B or someone else but did the Paracommander and all big long sleeve type bags use LESS rubber bands?? I just jumped a new deyployment bag and after double wraping all stows most of the bands were toast. I can't remember my old russian using anyway near the bands these new things do?? In fact I recall having to replace bands at the end of the season cause they got all stiff and crummy looking before they wore out??? C Or was it because they were all Dacron and not Spectra/etc.. But what do I know, "I only have one tandem jump."
  7. In all fairness to this "student," they actually are somewhat better than stable. I also noticed a backflip, (one) and the up/down drill, or the start coast stop except for no "Palming," perhaps that wasen't their intent to actually dock, but the pulling sequence is a little f/u. I can't quite put my finger on it but something is amis here take a real hard look, I might be just under the influence of a few at the moment, but this students left hand is compensating very well??? More than a few of us sitting around using this open computer, noticed this non-typical student behavior??? C M and chuck. But what do I know, "I only have one tandem jump."
  8. He didn't answere you??? I'll bait this by saying he is about 120 Kilo's C But what do I know, "I only have one tandem jump."
  9. I am not a Lawyer, but I do know just how screwwed you are if your hard drive crashes, and your back up crashes, or if the judge dosen't accept your electronic media. And I can tell you with absolute certianty the opposing consel, that's the side that is going to object to your discovery regarding electronic media and the custody of evidence, chain of evidence, well it's just a nightmare! The whole issue is a nightmare!!! You make the statment thus: "You will not have to prove..." I absolutly guarentee that you will in fact have to prove! You have to fucking PROVE EVERYTHING.... Don't play Lawyer if your not one! None of us have this kind of cash to make the statments you are making, no matter how well intenioned your meaning. Your going to find out that Dead Plaintiffs have deep pockets compared to your average DZ. C How much liability insurance do you carry, cause my lawyer is going to be contacting your lawyer if your system fails and I lose my lawsuit. "The authenticity of the electronic signature has never been challenged,..." Sorry, but you are so totally WRONG!!! Feel free to prove that one! But what do I know, "I only have one tandem jump."
  10. With safety day coming up, and with the increase in un-current jumpers getting "refreshers," with the start of the new season, this thread raisis an interesting point about the "chain of events" way of thinking. Coach's are there to observe. Period. Why was this student cleared by their AFFI? Back up in this chain of events to the source of the issue rather than engage in hypothetical issues and changing the ratings system. If someone is that out of date then make some Cat A jumps with AFFI's. Perehaps in this case the student was cleared for solo's way too early, I don't hear his AFFI's chiming in on this??? Perhaps the solo number should be moved to 30, or some number higher? How many days inbetween this jumpers Cat C and this... Well was this a CAT jump??? I didn'd see any turn and track, amongs other issues??? Deisel makes a valid point if this student is jumping with only a Coach and the results could have been less than optimum. But the IRM is clear on this, "Cleared...by an USPA Instructor...," Was this student cleared? The big issue here is at what point does the AFFI Instructor clear the student? Every argument after the student is cleared for self supervision, is an exercise in futility as far as Coach's are concerened. Unless of course your trying to increase the job security and work load for AFFi"s ? Which might not be that bad of an idea? Students are thrown to the wolves so to speak with making jumps with others right before they get their A lic., what with having to find individuals to jump with. Is the OP suggesting that students untill the A lic jump with AFFI's??? I humbly suggest that rather than turning Coach's into AFFI's we look at the students and make a more controlled assesment of their abilities and currency. As far as recurency jumps perhaps the individual returning should/could look at jumping with an AFFI' team/indivdual vrs a Coach??? The bottom line is at some point students and others get cleared, after they get cleared,....???? cross your fingers.... Just two cents for today. C But what do I know, "I only have one tandem jump."
  11. "Since, I am still doing solo's and no one else needs to see my face right now," Give the kid some credit, will ya! Now,... Ryan,... how did you do it??? C But what do I know, "I only have one tandem jump."
  12. I know, I know,... It might give an American Manufacturer just the leg up they need to take over the market! C "China?? I am in Michigan, USA. I have been developing Military cargo AAD systems for several years now, and will be developing a manned unit this year, so I am familiar with the requirements materials and such. " Never said your in China, just trying to point out the buy American act for TSO' d equipment would give a big leg up to a domestic manuf.. Please also coorect me here if I am not correct,... But don't most deployment systems, (Except the Strong Screeamer,) have at the heart of their actuators a Cypres unit? I mean that seems reason enough alone to manufacture a domestic unit? But what do I know, "I only have one tandem jump."
  13. You might also want to consider the "Buy American Act." For more information just ask any of the current manufacturers in DeLand, about component, subassembly , and fabric/material purchases/suppliers. The military and other organizations are the major purchasers for Cypres and Vigil,... to put it bluntly we don't need another AAD manufacturer from china. C But what do I know, "I only have one tandem jump."
  14. Thanks "Rigger" and "pcchapman," Like I said I'm concerned as well,... If they send these notices to the FAA and also only their delears, and some limited distrubution list,... it means the users are the last to know and in some cases we never know??? Is there a rigger list that they distribute too?? Anyways in their defence, they are wonderfull people and I have met most all of them!!!
  15. Ya I noticed, but they posted the change on their web site on Jan 14, 2013. I have the before jan 14 2013 instructions, and I have the rev 1 instructions from jan 15. What I found annoying was the fact that they also just posted the seperate update/bulletin on the 15 /16 . So what do you have to do to get these bulletins, what email list??? The bulletin was not on their web site before Jan 14, 2013,... Are there more bulletins out there as well?????????????? C But what do I know, "I only have one tandem jump."

    Hearing things

Not in the depths of winter in the wilderness ....dead calm.. no wind with heavy snow falling... no birds.. no insects and many feet of snow to absorb even the little sounds and a LONG way from any roads or flight paths.... ahhhhh That's when those wolves from the movie The Grey come in!!! What is up with this pre-occupation with Wolves eating people? First we have little red riding hood, ... Now we have that movie where they get stuck on a chairlift, And as you point out now we have "Airport 75" meets highlander in the all time chick flick: Grey. On top of that we have dogs on the DZ chasing people. I have't ranted in a week or so, so I 'd just wanted to rant! I guess I'm hearing things again. Peerhaps I'll just go and see things on the tv screen, someone remind me to turn it on. C I actually don't mind dogs at a DZ, kind of cute, and they are always happy to see you! But what do I know, "I only have one tandem jump."
  18. "Jump Suit Bible" I had to ask??? C I know I'm going to regret asking this.... But what do I know, "I only have one tandem jump."
  19. Well this here is a loaded question,... Whatever yo do make sure, that any excess clothing can never bunch up and cover or interfere with any control or handle. that said,... this goes for sticking your T shirt into your harness with rubber bands as well! Bev suits, I get a commision,err,... Actually there are so many established and small operations that make fine jumpsuits it really isn't fair to mention one over another. I personally like to support those that support skydiving! perhaps at this point, unless your filthy rich, purchase what you want, I reccommend someone else measure you, that way when it arrives, and it dosen't fit you have someone to yell at. Wearguard, dickies, etc. to save money? any large jumpsuit/one piece coverall, considering safety? Will do. Do we actually need jumpsuits, probably not aside from the entanglment issues, but they look cool and you can spend endless hours of time on those computer design things picking colors and clothes that we wouldn't be caught wearing elswhere! Fall rate: perhaps this aspect is important, not so right now, but it could be a issue when you start jumping with others. Aff ? and no one has mentioned this yet?? Booties, booties are for#$%#@ O'h shit I forgot this is dropzone and is a very heated topic. Good luck on the subject of booties. However if your a member of the opposite sex, then make sure the aerodynamics of a well fitted suit are taken into consideration! Perhaps I'm confusing booties with some other similar sounding word. Personally I'm going to quote EX Governor of Minnesota Jesse Ventura, "when I die I want to return as a 44DD bra," O'h back to your jumpsuit,...It is imperative that the female form be enhanced, for fall rate and other issues, by having a suit that is a least 2 sizes smaller than necessary! O'k now that I have callosly upset every female jumper worldwide,... It's a joke, come on,...NOT really a joke, have you been to a womens event on a hot day, I swear they paint those things on! Actually they have to considering their weight, many women need a faster fall rate and a tighter suit is one way to do this... Perhaps you could post the location of this offensive drop zone and we will shame them into going to the local launromate! Peersonally buy from an established place, I avoid e-bay because they are coming from a strange far away place, no not really,...if you spend 400.00 U.S. most of the domestic places will adjust and tweak till it fits, but the issue of who pays for shipping is going to come up. E-bay,...you buy it you own it! Most all domestic places are happy to adjust at no charge, and most have stock suits at far less than 400.00. Check the classifieds here, gamble a little, the worst is that you have to resell it, The best would be you get a nice suit at a great price! Another possibility is your local tailor/sewing center some individuals make their own, but if you have tried this once, it makes the 400 for the super duper suit look cheep. But yo never know if you have a relative, think Aunt or grandmother that would be willing to make one for you? Good luck. C Somtimes if you write a letter to the soap companies they send a little sample back of detergent, for free that you can pass on to your local DZ? But what do I know, "I only have one tandem jump."
  20. that sounds like my ex-wife, not a dog,... C But what do I know, "I only have one tandem jump."
