Advice needed... Newbie Wearing booties ....
Mr_Polite replied to shorehambeach's topic in Gear and Rigging
If you tuck the bootie up into the leg it's a none issue, even if it flaps around some it doesn't matter. The tunnel is cheaper and has a much higher learning curve. $ for $ you get more out of tunnel than you will in the sky. -
it's your birthday. jump in you birthday suit!

Your brain is more likely to get hurt because of excessive drinking after hours at the dz. More than likely the most damage will be done to your wallet

Advice needed... Newbie Wearing booties ....
Mr_Polite replied to shorehambeach's topic in Gear and Rigging
Really, all of this is total shit! Why is it bad to not wear the booties on a jump? What would be wrong with learning to use booties in the tunnel? The tunnel is THE best place to learn to fly with decent coaching And yes there is a noticable difference in freefall with booties. It's not dangerous or anything but you can tell a difference. -

I don't see why anyone would give a shit about this. It's not news, big deal he took something he wasn't supposed to. It's just bike racing.

There really isn't anything that complicated about jumping a camera. Some people on here get all worked up when a 100 jump wonder straps one on. The 200 rule really doesn't apply across the board.

That is odd to force people to buy their own alti, helmet and goggles while still being a student. Skydiving helmets are way over priced! Just go get a protech ($50) and that will actually protect your head some. The $300 "skydiving" helmets are worthless in protection value. They just look better thats all.

Does your DZ try to guilt you if you have a cutaway?
Mr_Polite replied to -SK-'s topic in General Skydiving Discussions
If you're a student and you have a cutaway you probably won't be held accountable for any missing gear. Once you're a licensed jumper you are responsible for any gear you damage or lose! Doesn't matter if you had a packer pack it. A lot of times newer jumpers cause malfunctions that have nothing to do with how it was packed. Typically because they're not very good at deploying stable, even though you probably think you are. -

GPS HUD from recon now for skydiving
Mr_Polite replied to jeb's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Cant wait to see the "you need 200 wing suit jumps" to use this I say put it on students to distract them. -
Yes that is technically the rule but we all know how it really happens. Typically you will learn to pack for experienced jumpers, student gear and then move onto tandems. I have seen places that let people just start right away on student gear. You're supposed to be packing under the direct supervision of a rigger but a lot of times that just means a rigger is somewhere at the dz. Not necessarly actually watching you. Hopefully they will teach you how to pack well and do it properly.

If youre a pilot you should have flown yourself Really though I think you are crying a little much over a typical travel day with the airlines. Get over it, shit happens. People have sat in an airport for days, those people I feel sorry for!

Unless you're a student doing a hop n pop for the first time there should be no reason for anyone to be any more nervous about exiting on a hop n pop than doing a full altitude jump. Most places with a turbine dump HnP's out any where from 3 to 5k. You will be open higher doing a HnP from 3k than from dumping at 3k at terminal! Exiting stable for a HnP is not a super difficult thing. if you can't do it you need to practice and learn them. I would like to think that anyone who is jumping a Stiletto can do a clean hop n pop. But then again these days you never know....

green light does not mean GO!
Mr_Polite replied to dreamtoy's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
what does it mean then ? It only means that the a/c is configured for exit. Actually it means whatever the Pilot in Command says it means. If the PIC says it means exit the plane NOW, then that's what it means. There is a big difference when the pilot says get out now because it is an emergency vs a green light for a normal jump run. I have seen some pissy pilots who get all upset when you don't go right away on green or question their spot. They can't see what is going on straight below the plane but you can. Spot for yourself/group before you jump! -
Whether it is a pull out or not it's pretty stupid to intentionally hang on to it.

How many jumps are on everything? When was it all made?

Jumping in the cold, things to look out for?
Mr_Polite replied to shah269's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Wearing "real heavy-duty ones, not the thin vanity ones" is not a good idea. You need to be able to feel things, such as your hackey, handles, toggles, ect.. -
Ok so he has less than 200 jumps, big deal. He is a big boy that can decide what to do with his own life. Darwin will probably win sooner or later.
-
Don't go spraying pledge or some other chemical on it. If you do there is a good chance that they won't warranty it once you mess with it. Wait for a reply from them, more than likely you will just need a replacment lense.

green light does not mean GO!
Mr_Polite replied to dreamtoy's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Most dz's do not have a "jump master" spotting each load. Whoever is at the door should spot but the majority of new jumpers don't actually know how to spot. If you're in the back of the plane you should stick your own head out the door and have a quick look before you get out. If someone tries to push you out punch them in the dick! -
Just remember, small fart...
