  1. That really sucks. The green monster strikes again -- Toggle Whippin' Yahoo Skydiving is easy. All you have to do is relax while plummetting at 120 mph from 10,000' with nothing but some nylon and webbing to save you.
  2. Damn man, that really sucks. Good luck. -- Toggle Whippin' Yahoo Skydiving is easy. All you have to do is relax while plummetting at 120 mph from 10,000' with nothing but some nylon and webbing to save you.
  3. Thank you very much everyone, and yes, I will be getting kegs, not cases SkyDekker, I'm working on my solo CoP. I've got only one jump left to do and then the paperwork is off. I've got a work deal set up with this dropzone for free jumps, but I'm going to visit Burnaby one day for sure. Did you guys get that Otter yet? Cajun, I'm trying a sitting exit next Not sure what I want to do just yet, but we've got a freeflying school here. Let the good times roll -- Toggle Whippin' Yahoo Skydiving is easy. 4. I'm having a similar problem, though I'm orbiting, not spinning. One of my legs is lazy. It's a very small asymetry and difficult to spot, even for the multi-thousand jump coaches, but over a moderately long delay it can accumulate to a nice little spin. What I did is to learn to counter it and fast, so the turn doesn't become a spin, and I mean counter as soon as you see that horizon move. This will give you a semblance of stability and boost your confidence, which is very important. After that, ground drills. At least, that's what seems to be helping me. Good luck, it's worth it. -- Toggle Whippin' Yahoo Skydiving is easy. All you have to do is relax while plummetting at 120 mph from 10,000' with nothing but some nylon and webbing to save you.
  5. Among all of the terrible things happening in our corner of the kitchen, I thought it would be nice to share my success story. Finally, after more than half a year and 30 jumps (weather was bad all of autumn, we're in Canada), I got my self supervision clearance on Friday. Still working on that first Solo CoP, but not a student anymore. So many firsts: 1. Non-student jump 2. High jump 3. BOC/TAS deployment (students use ripcord/SOS) 4. Video of me in freefall 5. Off DZ landing 6. Intentionally unstable exit 7. Jump on unsupervised packjob (it opened). 8. First time tracking Probably more stuff I forgot. My good friend got his first freefall on Sunday, on a chute I packed. He was on radio guidance, and his radio instructor took out the windsock on the landing area with him. I went out after him, let me tell you, it looked funny from the landing pattern. Oh, and, on a final note, hypothetically, if you're climbing out with your back to the prop in a C182, don't slip on the step. You will, hypothetically, end up with the door frame between your legs, and the wind will, hypothetically, slam your crotch into the door frame. That will, hypothetically, hurt like hell -- Toggle Whippin' Yahoo Skydiving is easy. some good news!

  13. Yep, I remember that also. IIRC, he was forced to apologize, and rightly so. I still think that there's nothing wrong with opposing someone's policy. Nothing wrong with appropriate, decisive action. However, there's everything wrong with calling them names, booing their national symbols and making their children cry. All the countries are partaking in it, Canadians, French, Americans, etc. It's the 21st century folks, let's start acting like it. -- Toggle Whippin' Yahoo Skydiving is easy. 14. Thanks a lot, that was a very good thought. -- Toggle Whippin' Yahoo Skydiving is easy. All you have to do is relax while plummetting at 120 mph from 10,000' with nothing but some nylon and webbing to save you.
  15. While I agree with you, I also think that a little civility goes a long way. Our current government is mostly a copy of a government from some 10 years ago, and the PM is not very decisive. The press here has taken a stand against the US, and while I'm not certain who's the chicken and who's the egg here, the people are turning where the press is going. Seems to me that our PM just has his nose in the wind. Keep in mind that all this means is that our government is trying it's best to represent what the people are currently thinking. What I find really sad is the public taunting of Americans as a group. This is nothing more than a stereotype. One day, after the dust settles, some people are going to be very ashamed of themselves. -- Toggle Whippin' Yahoo Skydiving is easy. 17. I'm not sure what the glide ratio of the Foil is, but there shouldn't be too many control problems. It's designed to be as predictable and accurate as possible, and that's what he uses it for - competitive accuracy. It probably isn't what you really want though If you want to fly, try skydiving, hang gliding, and paragliding. Make sure that, at least with skydiving, you try a few jumps and not just one. You have to get to the point where you realize that you're not just falling, that you're flying through the air, that you're in control. If that still doesn't bake your noodle, move to another sport, because all of these sports are very expensive to get into. Finally, have you considered learning to pilot an airplane, like an ultralight? One of my instructors flies a wingsuit and he's really into it, but it requires a lot of experience to do safely. -- Toggle Whippin' Yahoo Skydiving is easy. 18. One of the owners of my home DZ has over 6000 jumps. His canopy is 300+ square feet, an accuracy ParaFoil. -- Toggle Whippin' Yahoo Skydiving is easy. All you have to do is relax while plummetting at 120 mph from 10,000' with nothing but some nylon and webbing to save you.
  19. Sounds like a good book for a beginner. I was looking for a good source on introductory canopy control for a while, thanks. I definitely agree with you, at 29 jumps I need to learn all I can. Just one thing to be added is that it's probably a good idea to consult instructors before doing any of the exercises. -- Toggle Whippin' Yahoo Skydiving is easy. All you have to do is relax while plummetting at 120 mph from 10,000' with nothing but some nylon and webbing to save you.
  20. Could you describe briefly what this book is? What kind of exercises? What exactly is in it? Is it more avoidance and accuracy, or is it more aggressive? I might start downsizing from the student skybarges to a smaller skybarge, and I definitely want to learn to fly it first. -- Toggle Whippin' Yahoo Skydiving is easy. 21. So what would you say the best course of action would be? Aside from not grabbing the wrong rig in the first place, of course. There should definitely be an altitude deck past which you shouldn't do any maneuvers whatsoever, simply because you don't know how much altitude you will lose and how much speed you will gain. High/Low

High - Unbelievable jump with one of the best skydivers in Canada, who also taught my FJC. I would tell you what we did, but we might get in trouble. Then again, you could see it just fine... Low - Coming back home, seeing 3 new posts in Incidents, thinking it's just 3 more reserve rides, seeing the fatality thread, taking a deep breath and opening it, realizing I know who that is... -- Toggle Whippin' Yahoo Skydiving is easy. 24. This is a completely different issue then. If someone like SkymonkeyOne goes to his reserve, he's into a world of pain on landing?
