  1. Well, I've put almost a thousand dollars over credit limit on my CCs last summer when I started jumping. This meant I had to stay at work for the school year. I got a little extra money this way and couldn't keep it to myself, being irresponsible, so I bought a rig with it. This meant I had to keep working, so now I'm irresponsibly jumping away all that extra money. Wait a minute... Was I supposed to make it sound bad or good? -- Toggle Whippin' Yahoo Skydiving is easy. 3. I had almost the exact same problem. I was sit-flying instead of arching. Trying to stop the tumbling resulted in kicking, which resulted in more tumbling. The way I finally stopped it is, one jump, right off the strut, I felt my legs at my stomach. The usual thought process of what-the-hell-is-wrong-with-my-arch occurs, but then I just hear this voice inside my head: "What the #$%@ are you doing? ARCH!!!" Whammo, never a problem since. I also had the problem that I didn't really believe that the arch works. I thought that yeah, it's all nice, but what if I'm tumbling? What if I'm this, or if I'm that? Tried to find some miracle solution or something. There is no miracle, no short cuts, no quick ways to recover. Arch when you jump, arch when you fall, arch when you pull. If you are tumbling, arch. If you're spinning, arch. If you're inverted, arch. If you're head low, arch. If you're head high, arch. You get my drift Practice on the ground a lot, after all, ground is free. Keep yourself relaxed in the plane as best you can, do breathing exercises or something. But finally, and this is the most important part of my advice: ARCH DAMMIT!!! Have a great jump, and good luck! DISCLAIMER: a) The whole "if this, arch" diatribe is semi-metaphorical. For instance, inversion may not be completely fixed by an arch. When you pull, remember to bring the other hand up. If you're spinning, you can counter. But, except for the pull, all of these are "advanced" techniques that you will learn on your next jump I was just trying to emphasize that importance of trusting your arch. b) I've only got 48 jumps. I've just applied for my first CoP. This is only the experience of another student, that's all. -- Toggle Whippin' Yahoo Skydiving is easy. 4. The dark side of PFF(the Canadian AFF): a) Information overload, may not be an issue. b) Student status is too short. I land bull's eyes standing up because of all the extra canopy training. c) This is the big one: flopping a level is a wee bit expensive. Burnaby has an Otter, but they don't do S/L (IIRC). STI has a lot of good instructors, two national teams actually, one in Accuracy. It's pretty much a S/L farm with a lot of small planes, so going up is not usually a problem. However, STI uses ripcords on the student gear. There's SWOOP and PST around here too, but I don't know much about them. If you head out to STI you'll very likely meet me there -- Toggle Whippin' Yahoo Skydiving is easy. Pierced Tongues

Yuk. I hate pretty much all piercings. Loose skin, alright, I can handle that, but I shouldn't be able to jiggle your insides around with a handle. Give me a nice, unpierced, without plastic surgery, natural girl any time. In fact, I already have such a girl available But that's just me. -- Toggle Whippin' Yahoo Skydiving is easy. 6. Now that you mention it, I think it's a consistent problem with my flare. I've tried the cobaltdan balance post a couple of hours ago on a 260 7-cell. Without wraps, it planed out max input. I couldn't stall it at all without wrapping. I started the flare early, a little too early, but I stood it up. This is actually really helpful guys, thanks. -- Toggle Whippin' Yahoo Skydiving is easy. Art or Crap ??

So if anything and everything is art, why bother calling things art? Isn't that just redundancy? 13. Oooh, that's new. I've always been told to flare at man height, that is, 6-10 feet. Our flare has always been "slam the breaks and hold it down", but now I'm finding that that doesn't always work -- Toggle Whippin' Yahoo Skydiving is easy. 14. This is almost exactly what my thread is about. While billvon's response is the standard response given to me by my instructors and coaches, it would be nice to hear the collective dz.com wisdom chime in on this important topic. Speculating, a ZP canopy would probably bounce back up if you slam on the breaks like with the student F-111s, resulting in a "slam dunk" landing. -- Toggle Whippin' Yahoo Skydiving is easy. 15. I'm sure this has been asked before, but I want to hear all the tips and tricks from the new folks. So, how should a canopy be flared? F-111 vs ZP, low/high winds, turbulence, accuracy, swoop, anything. My question is really about the difference between F-111 flares and ZP flares, as well as what exactly should I "feel" in the flare. How would you flare a 220sqft F-111 7 cell? How about a 160sqft ZP 7 cell? A 150sqft ZP 9 cell? Thanks in advance everyone. -- Toggle Whippin' Yahoo Skydiving is easy. 21. Dave, I'm not really worried about the length of the cable as both risers release well before full arm extension, but those cables flapping in the wind may not be the best idea. 22. I did the first 3 ring maintenance on my beer rig today and practice pulled the cutaway. Already I noticed something educational - the cable is not that easy to clear. 24. It would be downright unfair to make women play football with the men and expect them to perform the same. Without a doubt there are significant differences in physiology between men and women, and I don't think I'm being sexist saying that. But golf?
