  1. Here in the States, you will get mowed down by a 18-wheeler doing 90mph on the freeway if you are on a 250..
  2. Care to elaborate? Closest thing I can figure out to a WCC is a West Coast Chopper. And a Chopper is definately not me..
  3. That is very true. However, it also seems that many hot-sh*t sportbike riders have no regard for other traffic themselves. It's no surprise when you drive 50mph faster than traffic that people aren't going to see you well enough to avoid pulling into your way.
  4. Well, I've been convinced that a 1300cc 'busa ain't a very good first bike.. Comments on the Honda CBR600 as a first bike? I've seen conflicting comments. I've read that its a very comfortable bike, and easy to handle. However, the main comment against it is that it is essentially a track bike, and therefore, is too much for a first bike. On the other hand, it seems to be very similar to just about every other 600cc sport bike. Also, Honda makes the Interceptor ABS. It has a few more cc's (781), but also has the benefit (and safety) of ABS brakes. Does the addition of ABS brakes make up for the added dangers of a little bit bigger engine? Unfortunately, not many other bikes offer ABS (BMW, heavier Honda touring, and the Interceptor, which is 1 step above the CBR600). Also, are sport bikes inherently dangerous (hard to handle), or are the dangers associated with bikes related to the inability to keep people from splitting the lane at 120mph and slamming into a semi changing lanes? I was just doing some statistics searching, and I read that 80% of fatal (or was it total accidents) occur off the roadway. (defined as anything outside the lane, on the lane separator, divider, median, shoulder, ramps, etc). Many of the other accidents could be attributed to negotiating curves (single vehicle). Theoretically, couldn't a 1100cc bike be ridden safely by a beginner in regular traffic (not that I am looking at a 1100cc bike). Is the threat the bike itself? or the fact that its inevitable that the driver is going to push his/her own limits?
  5. Lickie Waterford.. I'm scared..
  6. http://he.nac.net/other-sites/streaker.avi Don't forget about Ripley's on TBS. Should be on in a few minutes. Edited: Sorry. NSFW.
  7. There is a web-browswer that looks like an excel spreadsheet and has quick shortcuts to switch views (and moving the mouse in a certain way). I'll be damned if I can find it again though. I saw it on some technology show on TV. It's made specifically for what you want to do..
  8. But a more important part of the waiver is that the DZ is not liable for negligence either. So not only is it your fault if YOU hurt yourself, but also if you are injured as a result of an action (or lack of it) by the DZ. If you are at reputable DZ, then you have nothing to worry about. edited: fixed typo
  9. First waiver I skimmed it all. Second, just saw what the paragraphs were about. Subsequent, signed and initialed everywhere without reading. If I don't agree with the waiver, the only choice I have is to not jump. At familiar dropzones, honestly, I am just going to sign just about anything.
  10. I have the SONY MP-40 CD/MP3 deck. I definately agree on getting an MP3 capable system. You really don't even need a changer, since you can easily fit 130-150 mp3s on a single CD. I go for weeks at a time before changing CDs. I don't terribly like the Sony interface, but overall, its a decent deck with no complaints. I hear excellent things about the Alpines.
  11. Applying for many lines of credit at the same time hurts your credit report. I would try minimize the 'hits' (requests) on your credit report.

  13. Hehe, yea... I suppose I knew the reaction I would get. I probably won't get a bike, but it's something that I've wanted to do. It certainly won't be safe either around the places I live (Atlanta and Dallas). Thanks for your comments, I guess I'll stick to something a bit safer like jumping out of a plane.
  14. I've been bitten by a bug or something, cuz I am just itching to get a sport bike. Never ridden a motorcycle in my life.. and this is what I want to get: http://www.sportbikez.net/html/showcase.php?showcase=67 Am I gonna die? Is this gonna be like buying a Velocity after 100 jumps? Anyone wanna talk me into/out of this decision? It's not a real decision anyways, just a thought, so I'm open to discussion. And I'd love to hear comments from sport bike riders out there. By the way, I'm 21 (read "young and stupid").
  15. Two male models from the grassy knoll, in response to JFK's embargo on Cuban manufactured sansabelt slacks. http://justdd.metropoliglobal.com/pelis/elim_zoo/zooe_007.jpg
  16. One thing to consider is jump run altitude. Most 182's can't get to the same heights as a turbine. Only time I jumped a C-182 was on my AFF-2, and we were only able to get up to ~10k (after a long climb). Something to think about is freefall time. When you are on AFF, I would think you would want as much working time as possible. Getting to jump at 13k or even higher might be a good thing, especially if you have trouble getting stable quickly.
  17. Well... now I'm just post whoring, but might as well take the opportunity to share some funny stuff I've found tonight. http://www.fabrica.it/gallery/interactive/item13.html http://www.starcarlton.com/Flash/OrgasmCalculator.htm http://www.worldrps.com/ This one needs an explanation for the uninformed. see http://www.ready.gov/get_informed.html for the original, and http://www.idlewords.com/biological.html for the spoofs... http://www.u.arizona.edu/~jhiner/allyouready.gif WARNING: NSFW, ALSO NOT SAFE FOR DIALUP http://www.alink.co.za/chicks/kiss/ That's enough for now.. If I find some more, I'll post more later..

  20. I do that EVERY time... I can't brush my teeth in front of the sink anymore. It's freaking great. Overall, its a much more productive shower. ;)
  21. First of all, I am an atheist. My main complaint about religion is that it is by-product of someone else's story. Religion is not fundamental (although, perhaps, some parts of the brain are hardwired to appeal to religion). I don't have a problem with anyone's personal beliefs, but I do have a problem when I see people BRAINWASHED into believing something. Think about this, for you "christians", would you be christian if you parent's weren't? I know many of you that answer yes will claim that your parents were only christian by name, and you are by faith, but that is all crap. I often ask devout christians if they would have been christian if they were, for example, born in iran to muslim parents. They claim that "god" would have found a way to them. That is just bs. You throw a child out in the country to fend for themselves and show me that in 20 years they are "chrisitians" as the bible would have them be. or show me a born muslim that converted to christianity without the help of some bible thumping "god's soldier." Hopefully in this long rant, you might be starting to see my point. Without preachers and christians shining their "enlightened" ways on us barbarians to save us, there would not be christianity. Does anyone else see a problem with this? Don't you think that atleast suggests that religion is something made up and perpetuated by people? edited to continue rant: heres my point: take 2 people, and put them on indentical versions of an uninhabited earth. give one (or both) the ability to read, write, and understand math. and give the other (or both) the ability to comprehend religion (whatever the hell that means). given enough time, the first person, should be able to understand the mechanics of the universe exactly as we do today. afterall, the principles he is using (not including theoretical modern sciences) are fundamental. they are proven and repeatable. now the other guy. what are the chances he is going to be a christian? i claim 0%. for you christians out there, you will claim god will save him. i suppose the idea of a world without god is alien to you. however, who told you about god? god? or some guy every sunday morning for the first 15 years of your life? i would also claim the latter. arguments welcome, although, might be better to start religion thread elsewhere
  22. You know who is NOT getting a Darwin award? THIS GUY! http://www.cnn.com/2003/US/Central/05/02/climber.amputation.ap/index.html Guy is freaking insane... what a figher... I think I would give up and die before slicing my own arm off... And check out that city name.. MOAB..
  23. Never done CReW. But I'm just curious: How easy or difficult is it to clear a wrap? It is my understanding that several individuals died last year from a wrap. Is it not a huge deal, where you can just push your way out of the mess and execute emergency procedures? Do you think it is the most dangerous aspect of CRW (more dangerous than say, the risk of a collision in freefall?)? Have you been in a wrap that had you thinking you were in serious trouble? Other comments and related topics will be appreciated.
  24. Yes, the same thought crossed my mind. When you get the Cobalt, and on their website, there is a warning to make sure you read the info page on their "two-stage openings." Within that page, there is several mentions of the cross ports. Does this imply that you didn't do the research on their website or even read the material that came with your canopy? If you read that material and understand the differences between the cobalt and other canopies out there, that is great. If you didn't then you are just asking for trouble. What would you have done if you jumped the cobalt without knowing anything about it? Would you have chopped it when it didnt look right after opening? That is just one issue. Also, are you saying that in the 400+ jumps that you claim you have (by your claim that you have atleast as many jumps as Aggie), you NEVER inspected your canopy? You never laid it out and looked it over? You never watched your rigger inspect your gear either? I just find it very difficult to believe someone with that many jumps and therefore atleast several years in the sport, wouldn't know what a good canopy looked like. If you don't know what good gear looks like, how will you be able to tell when you have gear that needs to be fixed or replaced? No, you dont NEED to know what cross ports are to survive and have fun. But I think lacking a basic understanding of the construction and design of your gear indicates a far larger problem. I am not trying to throw the blame to you, andrewstewart, but I think we need to address this problem on a larger scale. Sure, we have a larger epidemic in the sport, as the FAA would call it, controlled flight into terrain. But I think we could sure decrease the amount of cutaways and injuries if people had a solid understanding of the gear that saves their life. edit- fixed typos
