Which country really poses the greatest danger to world peace in 2003?
darkvapor replied to darkvapor's topic in The Bonfire
I know this is nothing ground breaking, but certainly interesting. See Time's results here: http://www.time.com/time/europe/gdml/peace2003.html -
round canopies for f 14 pilots?
darkvapor replied to KawiZX900's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
have any of yall seen the video of that russian pilot who ejected just several hundred feet off the deck and lived? you show me a ram air chute that can open that fast and still put you on the ground in one piece. That round just BARELY inflated as he touched down, but he lived, and thats all that counts in an ejection seat. -
Excellent service and prices. I always check there first before I buy something. Bought a rig, a main, and a container from them. I also bought a bonehead helmet. Was a bit dissapointed when the helmet wasn't shipped as promised due to back order or something. HOWEVER, Roy was happy to overnight it to me in Georgia so I could jump with it that weekend. Totally recommend him.

>>It completly reinforces proper peel and pull techniques. I have them do it like they mean it in real time. Several users have been very surprised and have since modified their emergency procedure practice. -- My rig is so new, its not time for a repack yet, however, I did realize how hard it was to pull the cutaway handle without peeling when I went to clean and check my cutaway cables for the regular 30 day inspection and cleaning... I decided to put the rig on when I pulled the handle. I would recommend people try it. Especially since I would venture to say that most people don't take the time to maintain their cables as recommended between repacks.

Personally, I love high altitude h&p's. Did one just a few weeks ago. Winds were only about 16 knots so no problems with getting blown into the next county, but it was about 0°F. I thought I could handle the cold, but I was frozen numb by the time I got down. In fact it was so cold I barely felt like playing around. I just flew in lazy circles and enjoyed the view. Some of the more experienced guys jokingly warned me that I would freeze to death. Ofcouse, being young and foolish, I opened right at 14k. Just make sure you are last out (usually works best), talk to the pilot, and have fun. My favorite part is watching the plane bank to begin his descent right as I am leaving the door of the Otter.

What cellular service provider should I choose? (National Service)
darkvapor replied to darkvapor's topic in The Bonfire
Well.. my Nextel contract is up in 2 weeks, so I need a new cell phone provider... Since I spend half of my time in Atlanta and the other half in Dallas, I need a provider that has good national coverage. I also want something that works well beyond the metro area, so when I jump or go camping or something, I still have a chance of getting some service... People, especially in Dallas and Atlanta, please post your experiences.. -
>and they still make us pay $75/yr to >park....bastards You don't have it so bad... our parking permits at Georgia Tech are 360$ for most lots... if you want a lot that is more accessible.. expect to pay another 100$ on top of that.... and btw.. my parking pass is all that hangs from my mirror right now..

Have you jumped your reserve?
darkvapor replied to bwilling's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
>please correct me if my information is wrong or if I >made an error I'm wondering how they take into account that the planform is not rectangular. With a single chord measurement it would be hard to get a good idea of the actual area. Are they using the center cell? The mean aerodynamic chord would not be a good measure because it is not necessarily the geometric mean (or is it?)... -

its on ftp.skydivingmovies.com as well.. under public/fromtv/nakedbigway.mpg or something...

I was wondering about this too, except as it relates to regular mains. I'm assuming a mistake that causes a line over on a tandem will produce the same result on a sport main right? And vice versa... Only thing I know of, what my rigger told me, is to be careful not to over-roll the tail, cuz that can allow some of the brake lines to get in fron the of nose of the canopy. But I also assume that it will take quite a few rolls to get the brake lines there.

I'm not so sure it will... F5 or CTRL+R Refresh the current Web page only if the time stamp for the Web version and your locally stored version are different CTRL+F5 Refresh the current Web page, even if the time stamp for the Web version and your locally stored version are the same I think the problem comes when IE detects the same "timestamp" and doesn't really refresh even if you hit F5. Most of the time it works though, since atleast SOME of the content will be changed.

a quick trick.. if you are using internet explorer, hold down the CTRL key and click the refresh button on the browser bar thingy... that forces it to refresh from the online source, rather than your cache

Controller: "Flight two zero niner, clear for vector three two four." Roger: "We have clearance Clarence." Clarence: "Roger, Roger what's our vector Victor?" --Airplane! Kent: Alright, does anyone have a question for our panel that's not about how much money they make? [Audience's hands go down] Lenny: [at microphone] Uh yeah, I'm a techno-thriller junkie, and I'd like to know, is the B-2 bomber more detectible when it rains? Kent: Oh, what do you think, Tom Clancy? Clancy: Well, the B-2-- Lenny: No, no, no, I was asking Maya Angelou! Angelou: The ebony fighter awakens, dabbled with the dewy beads of morn. Moe: Maya Angelou is black? Angelou: It is a mach-5 child, forever bound to suckle from the shriveled breast of congress. Lenny: Oh, Maya, you're a national treasure!

Dogs rock! Since I'm in school I can't have my own dog, but we have a dog at my parent's house that is absolutely the best dog ever. A chocolate lab mix named Nestle. Pictures attached.

Thanks SurfFlite, I appreciate getting a picture of the skyball. I thought I would post it here so that others might get a look at it to if they are interested.
-
As AirMail suggested, why not just have it deploy a parachute? It seems that Surf Flite has board recovery systems, so why not this? Plus, if this ball just opens up and releases its weight, finding it would still be another issue. I would think a nice bright red chute would be easier to spot when you are out looking for it. I suppose it flying away under "canopy" would be a problem.. but it just depends on the loading and its deployment altitude... problems that can be solved...

Not to mention that lead is not environmentally safe. It tends to kill the animals that eat the shot.
