In spite of my glib comment a few posts back, the drug trafficking and the drug wars brough with it are a fact of life of that region of the country and the LEO's are not going to cut any slack for someone they believe may be invloved in the drug trade.

Hmmm...perhaps Obamacare and Deliverance have hooked up?

Don't know if it applies to everyone. As for me…at 58, I'm still a wild ass, wise ass when I want to be…it's just that I'm a bit more careful where I demonstrate that behavior.

Longmont City Council will take up skydiving noise

As we are beginning to see if it has not been made plain already is that one person's crusade becomes another person's harassment and when the table get turned, then the accusations of bullying and threats start getting thrown. Such are the last vestiges of a tyrant. " I am going to identify some of these bullies and potentially subpoena them for deposition. Incidentally, Mark had emailed me the other day asking to join the Quiet Skies email distribution - that's why he got the rather unexpected response." ...and Andrew Stamire shot back at Ms Gibbs on the CFQS FB page and warmed her about using coercive/extortive behavior that could be illegal by threatning normiss with legal action if he did not "give up" the real names of some fellow skydivers that post here. What normiss chooses to do assuming A. Stamire is correct is up to normiss. If this were to happen to me, I'd be seeking every legal remedy against the extortionist and make it hurt so bad, they wish they had never thought of it in the first place. It also appears that any flight over Ms Gibb's house is "buzzing her house" as evidenced by the Otter acending to jump altitude. Perhaps Ms Gibbs should check the FAR's on minimum altitude requirements. Thus if the aircraft maintains minimum altitude above ground level and flies over her house, what law has been broken? What Ms Gibbs does not realize NOR does she wish to realize is that neither she or the city of Longmont regulate the skies, it's the FAA and the law is not on her side with respect to aviation use and aviation activities. I'm also curious (I'm not a lawyer) but how are subpoenas going to be served to those she identifies across state lines and jurisdictions. Anyone know that one? She's been called a lot of names and public records legally accessed about her she does not like. But I don't see any posts here in this forum that have threatened to do bodily harm to her or destroy her property. "When you threaten someone's home and family, it is not going to go well for you." But there have been no threats and puhhleaze my skydiving friends do not threaten her as she is clearly NOT worth doing one second of time in the Big House over. Just let her inflated sense of self eventually deflate all on its own as the hot air she has generated will fill in the vacuum she has created and we all know that nature abhors a vacuum. And to Ms Gibbs, you started this not with the express intent of dialogue or discussion but to terminate skydiving operations at Longmont Airport and put Mile High Skydiving out of business. We know your "hospitable genteel Rodney King want to get along" mentality all to well. You wish "constructive dialogue" but hide the cudgel of your real agenda until you've sucked your target into position for the kill. There are other creatures in nature who act the same way; I won't be specific as I think everyone here is smart enough to those I allude. And somehow you did not think you would face opposition or maybe you just didn't think you'd face the reciprocal fury for what we perceive as the fury you have visited upon the skydiving community and in particular the skydiving community in Colorado. Ms Gibbs, you thought WRONG! Have a wonderful day! -

Divalent, Great names, good people I've met them all, I can attest to their exemplary character. But Theon Lyski AKA "theonlyski" is from Poland, Gdansk to be specific. I think you got him a little confused due to the fact that Theon spends considerable time in Russia teaching polka lessons to the Moscow Singles Club. Hey gotta pay for skydiving some way. Thought I'd let you know! -
I would be curious to see if a letter from your opthamologists (assuming you are under the care of an opthamologist) would support your position. While there is more than adequate time to perform the various manuevers required in each training category, it would also intuitively seem that squinting would have a noticeable and negative impact on time management/usage during free fall. I agree with others here. This is a sit down private conversation with the instructors at the DZ you choose. Good luck!

...actually, I was seriously entertaining the idea of taking up a very concealed but unobstructed position in the forest next to my house, camoflage paint my face, put on dark clothes and throwing eggs at the parents and let the kids have the fun! -

I have read the lawsuit. Given the fact that it is the federal government and not the state who regulates navigable airspace, chances are the supremacy clause (federal trumps state) will in all likelihood, prevail. But the lady and her ilk think they have a case. -

I've had to learn that ya can't stay on the sidelines. Sometimes ya have to show up and get in the game. I do admire your campaign promises. They are both relevant and the one about the Congressman is well overdue. -

My friend, in a war, the first casualty IS the truth. In politics, the truth is not an issue IT IS WHAT SELLS and persuades the majority or the influential powers that be to get on your side. Truth and facts are always preferred, the question is now how you "wrap the package." This is NOT a time for underestimations. -

I truly share your sentiment to ignore these people and let them bitch and moan. But we do so at the potential peril of the sport we love. Yup, I'm new to skydiving; introduced to it in my 50's and now hoplessly hooked and loving every minute of it. BUT I AM NOT new to the game of politics and how it is played and the potential political weapons that CQS has at their disposal. Whether anyone here wants to admit it or stay silent, here's a dose of reality; these people are at war with the sport of skydiving. First rule of war is to "know thy enemy." Rest assured, CQS may be a little slow on the uptake as their efforts have spanned a few years. But with every effort in their struggle, they are learning and eventually they will find a weak point and exploit it. Yes, all of us here are aware of FAA Use Regulations. Please DON'T rest on this single point of law. Remember, there's the EPA, OSHA and other state and federal agencies that have their statutory compliance requirements. The airport and the DZ must also comply with these laws as well. I trust everyone has seen the CQS Facebook page and there is a posting on lead tetraethyl in AVGAS. Lead in AVGAS is legal of course but it also speaks to the creative angles CQS will pursue. I"m not giving them ideas...it should be credibly assumed that they already know the alternate strategies to pursue as such a posting demonstrates. What's next, clandestine photography and a sympathetic journalist to get inside the fenceline to take pictures then publish a story that fits their narative and makes the sport of skydiving out to be comprised of people who disregard the laws by their craven selfishness? Once a group such as CQS is successful, it WILL NOT STOP THERE. Other groups in other cities will benchmark their tactics and strategies and CQS will be all too happy to help. Sympathetic politicians who see an opportunity to get elected will glom on. The terms of the war then change and WE will be on the defensive as we watch DZ's unpopular with a community disappear. So...today, I will leave work and tonight, I will write a cheque out to the USPA legal fund to protect my interests and the interest of every skydiver here. In the interest of full disclosure, I am a USPA member. I am not part of any of the inner workings nor do I volunteer extra time to support the USPA, but I might have to start. If our enemies AND THEY ARE OUR ENEMIES (for that is how they see us) are successful in Longmont, whose next? So, for the cost of two jumps "all the way up," I'll be writing a cheque. I humbly encourage the same from others. Perhaps all you can give is the cost of one hop and pop and forgo that one jump every month so you'll still have a DZ nearby and your "family" of fellow skydivers. I will also make a committment to make monthly contributions to this fund. I would encourage everyone to consider this as well but ultimately we all have to make our own choices in such matters and I will wholeheartedly respect those decisions. What's the cliche, "Think Globally, Act Locally." Think Strategic, Execute Tactically!" Hate to break the bad news folks but don't underestimate the possibility that all of us will be affected if CQS prevails in Longmont, Colorado. The problem WILL NOT go away. I've read the articles on the net and conclude, THIS IS A FIGHT to finality and there WILL BE a clear winner and clear loser. Choose which one you want to be and act accordingly. I will now step off my soapboax and sincerely thank everyone here for reading. Agree or throw rocks if you like. -

Sunday night when I leave the DZ, I'm planning the next weekend. Everything between time at the drop zone is $#!t. Is it Saturday yet? -

Welcome! It does take a little time to get used to the idea that we've engaged a sport/hobby/passion/lifestyle (pick anyone or all of them) that few people enjoy. Enjoy your new rig, welcome back, and congratulations. Remember that courage is having the living hell scared out of you but going ahead with it anyway! Blue Skies

Well...if you don't like the news, go out and make some of your own!

Never cutaway? Do you look forward to your first?
Boomerdog replied to JeffCa's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I've come close. Even the short time I've been in the community, I don't get a sense that any skydiver relishes this action. Anyone speculating about any type of rush gained from a cutaway is most likely (IMHO), some outside of the community peddling sordid pap for some type of response. Have to admit, I've provided a response. -
I dare say that I could only repeat what has already been written here with perhaps one angle, the great sense of community in the sport of skydiving. It's not a stretch for me to state that the people at my DZ are more than friends, they have become an extended family interested in skydiving, improving our skills and craft and helping each other along. When jump ops are over and the green light is on, many of us stay to put the planes in the hangar and once all is locked and secure for the next jump day, we usually have dinner together at one of several favorite restraunts. Dinner over, we leave to go to our separate homes knowing that in the next five or six days, we'll be back at it. This is indeed is a rare community to be a part of and sadly, I must say, that for the naysayers, it is their loss not ours. Visitors are always welcome to watch at our DZ but they will never know the joy of free fall until they decide to take those steps.

Congratulations...one day at a time my friend one day at a time.

"Question: Anybody know of where I can come by a whole new circle of friends and a new family while I'm waiting for the cast to come off and get the hell back up there?" Yup...join Skydivers Over Sixty, change your phone# and maybe the locks on your house and start hanging out more at the DZ where you were jumping! And bring beer!
