  1. ugh...yet another knucklehead dumbass elected politician begging to build their resume for higher office on the backs of freedom loving people.
  2. And where is the culpability of the prosecution in this? Did they know about this video and fail to make timely disclosure? If the prosecution was aware of the existence of this evidence and willfully failed timely disclosure, they ought to be headed for the crowbar hotel as well!
  3. OK Top, I just e-mailed USPA Governmental Affairs Office politely asking them to engage this issue if they have not already done so. Along with the request was a modest contribution (to be followed by more modest contributions) to the AAD Fund. I humbly encourage all here to contribute what you can. As it has been said so many times before, "Money talks and bullshit walks!" If we are all agreed that this action has wider national implications, then it is time to make the stand now.
  4. Well it might not be as wide a brush as imagined but the brush you refer to DOES have some width to it that cannot be ignored.
  5. I'll do my best here in hopes to NOT start a religious/theological feud. First, there is a lot of analysis on the internet from both Protestant and Catholic sources on this text. How this text was translated from it's original language to English must consider the context of the historical moment and times in which it was written. Did Mark write the original text in Greek? Aramaic? Latin? I myself don't know. What I do know is that these three languages don't directly translate to English. Thus, a better understanding is realized by going back to the original language. Finally, does this scripture stand alone or is there other scripture i.e. text in other books of the Bible that can shed further light and explanation on this?
  6. You have good intentions, your heart is in the right place. You are also putting yourself (metaphorically speaking) in the path of a large buzz saw at full throttle setting. Simply put, the person in question does not recognize the problem and simply has not hit rock bottom yet and it's anyone's guess when and if that person will hit rock bottom. The dynamic you describe is also insulated by two enabling relatives and the bottom line, the case as you describe is way beyond your best intentions and level of concern. This one is for professionals. The ONLY reason I can site the "rock bottom" and "enabler" concepts is because a good friend of mine is a highly trained professional substance abuse counselor and we've had discussions over this but a discussions does not make me an expert so I too have to be careful in my commentary. Is this person driving intoxicated? It would be sad to have this person hit rock bottom after severely injuring or killing people. Be careful. In spite of your intentions and concerns which I and perhaps many here applaud, you can get sucked into this and the unintended consequences of getting too close will probably not be something you ever wished happened. The stark and sad fact is that there are times people make the choice to go off the cliff without a rig so to speak. Make sure you're not so close where they can grab you and take you with them.
  7. From Casablanca: Conversation between Rick and two German Officers German officer: How did you feel when we conquered your beloved Paris? Rick: Well, it's not exactly MY Paris... German officer: How will you feel when we conquer London? Rick: When you get there, ask me... German officer: How will you feel when we conquer New York? Rick: (laughs) major, there are certain parts of New York that I wouldn't advise you to try to invade"
  8. Celebrating at the DZ tomorrow. Bringing a batch of home made peanut brittle! It's really good! Dinner after jumping.
  9. We can agree that bad behavior in the strategic nuclear forces is flat out unacceptable. It's why there are in place, regulations and protocols like the two man concept and the personnel reliability program and a pretty hefty load of technical orders which must be adhered to. Sadly, people either make mistakes or they just decide to misbehave, cut corners etc. etc. The screening processes and the background investigations do their best to determine fitness to work in such an environment. It would be nice if it were perfect and fool proof. I'd also like to have a 100% guarantee that my pack job is perfect and that the canopy will open square, stable and steerable everytime. So far, 88/89 jumps have been good, the one was a very hard opening with a busted brake line and the pack job was a good pack job by all standards of observation. Sorry, as much as i'd like to, I just can't give you perfect.
  10. I have no disagreement with General Carey's dismissal as Commander of 20th Air Force. At a minimum, he'll be dropped from the promotion list. He may face court martial for conduct unbecoming an officer. I read about this a few weeks ago but I don't know if the Commander of the Air Force Global Strike Command recommended additional disciplinary action. Something to think about. General Carey ruined his career over behavior not exactly foreign to many of us here and the only thing we suffered was a nasty hangover. In 45 years of operational existence, SAC endured bad behavior, criminal behavior from a handful of miscreants. Once discovered, justice was swift and seemed to many, excessive. When nuclear weapons are involved, standards must be high. My father was in SAC years ago when LeMay was SAC Commander. LeMay's plane landed at the base he was stationed at unannounced. The Wing Commander and his staff hastily headed out to the flight line to greet him. LeMay got off the plane, the Wing Commander saluted and the first word's out of LeMay's mouth was, "Colonel, you're relieved." The reasons not known but LeMay in spite of the unforgiving hard ass he was known to be, had his standards for a command given the responsibility of global nuclear strike at a moments notice. To err was human but to forgive was not SAC's policy. The movie is a resounding hit in the Air Force. Watched it many times with my Air Force colleagues and we laughed our asses off each time. Yea, there's been some characters out there who pushed the envelope but at the end of the day, once discovered, the culture just would not tolerate the behavior.
  11. Hmmmm...you might be right but we'll never know...it wasn't in the script was it!
  12. Well...might I suggest: Anything heavy metal! Anything Hendrix Some selected stuff from Blood Sweat & Tears and/or Tower of Power when the Brass Sections are showcased and belitng out the dB's Jefferson Airplane/Starship and ANYTHING Grace Slick is singing. Country Joe and the Fish - Particularly "The Fish Cheer From Woodstock!" Sex Pistols - Lyrics for obscene effect. The Tubes - White Punks on Dope Steppenwolf Rolling Stones - Just to remind her she couldn't make a dead man... Very powerful speakers with sound levels capable of busting windows and minor structural damage. My 25 cents and a cup of coffee's worth.
  13. Yes...the source is considered and found wanting. Sorry not buying. Policy issues and mission taskings always get debated. Misbehavior does happen and when discovered and given the nature of the mission, there is zero tolerance and career ending consequences. It's NOT and never has been a perfect system in spite of the desire to achieve it and if you've ever read how Gen Curtis LeMay ran SAC, you'd know his standards and the justice he metted out to those who did not strive for the highest standards. But it did work. No excuses mind you but the New Yorker is not exactly a source known to be balanced. They write stories to attract readership and sell advertising space...I get that but experience has shown me that the press will take what facts that may exist, provide their own context and background and voila before you know it, they can turn angels into devils and the reverse. Sorry...just not buying. Keep throwing rocks if you like.
  14. It's a great spoof and comedy mixed with some irony. Dr. Strangelove is a masterpiece but "closer to reality than was admitted????" Have you EVER been inside the command center of Strategic Air Command now the US Strategic Command OR the National Military Command Center in the Pentagon and observed some of the stuff from this movie going on in these two places? Do tell. Maybe I missed some of those antics when I was there, I'm all ears, we can swap war stories...really!
  15. Don't forget the Kardasians and Lady Gaga!
  16. Different look, same round, same lethality. As for the gun control activist, I hope the NRA uses some of the annual dues I pay to get his pic and make a poster "What A Dumb@$$ Looks Like!"
  17. ***... if he likes his Beyonce, he can keep his Beyonce. You forgot the "period." But if Beyonce misses hers, there will be hell to pay from her and the old lady Michelle. Has the Secret Service done a threat assessment based upon this scenario? Inquiring minds are curious and want to know.
  18. Why am I NOT surprised at your response?
  19. There IS a difference. There are those who think about it and there are those who cross over the line and actually do it. For many years I thought about it in quick passing. A Christmas present for an AFF lesson started it all; we are both licensed now. I spend the work week thinking about the upcoming weekend of jumping and seeing all my new friends. Now, I want to make it plain that the difference does not make us better than the whuffo's out there. There are many tandem jumpers who come to our DZ and they see the atmosphere and the vibe and several have told me they've never seen anything like the friendliness of the DZ. Now all they have to do is just make the decision to do it!
  20. ...just another lying politician who has a history of lying going all the way back to her work in the Watergate investigations. http://www.redflagnews.com/headlines/1974-diary-surfaces-hillary-fired-for-lying-unethical-behavior-on-watergate-committee This is not the only article. Just Google "Hillary Lying in Watergate investigation.
  21. 56 Now that a few of us have answered some of your questions in different areas of this board, I think you owe us an honest explanation why you are asking these questions. Like...are you doing a legitimate research project or are you trying to find crazy people and if you are I'll save you the trouble. We jump out of airplanes...we're all crazy here so go find and sell crazy some place else.
  22. NO!!!! Just where the hell is the logic in doing something because you can say you did something before you die? It does not compute for me.
