You should always be willing to jump what you pack. Yes, technically the card only says 'pack,' but I don't think I'd want to learn at a DZ that doesn't make you jump it before getting it signed off.

New Skydiver... Help me! Haha.
excaza replied to exanimatebylove's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Chances are your DZ won't be open during the winter. -
Shoot an email to info@cookiecomposites.com, they get back to you within a day or so.

The instructor should be able to figure it out. They'll probably quickly run through the basics just to make sure but after that you're golden. Just talk to the instructor before you get in and let him know what your experience level is and what you'd like to work on.

The vertical tunnel at WPAFB is still there and in use (mainly for stability studies), but it's not really powerful enough for people. If I remember correctly from the last time I was over there, it will only barely get up to terminal for belly flying.

Would you want YOUR skydiving to be 100% safe?
excaza replied to rss_v's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I think it would be great to have the best safety equipment possible. However, I'm not comforted by my safety equipment nearly as much as I'm comforted by the training I'm doing as a student and will continue to do when I obtain my license. I started learning to skydive because I've always wanted to be a pilot of some sort, and skydiving allows me to essentially fly myself around while careening towards the dirt. Plus, it's fun as hell. Knowing that I couldn't possibly die wouldn't take away the fun for me, but I'm sure there are plenty of others who think differently. More power to them, they do some pretty incredible stuff. -
Hard getting a military one to do it too

If you want to get even more in depth, you can also check out Poynter's parachute manuals, though they do cover a lot more than just ram-air. I've got both volumes at work to use as reference material, they're wonderful!

Well, it could help with landing patterns.

Quick question about skydiving log book.
excaza replied to sherwoodchris's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
To me, the purpose of your logbook is exactly that, log your jumps. I can only speak as a student, but I've found that writing everything down is extremely helpful (I practically wrote a book for each of my AFF jumps). Not only is it helpful for you to keep track, but it's also helpful for instructors and coaches who aren't as familiar with you as those who have been taking you through your jumps. It also shows that you're being heads up during your jumps and noticing what you're doing well and what you need to work on. -
I love the tunnel and I'm not doubting that tunnel time is helpful, but given that the majority of your examples deal with poor canopy skills, what exactly is a wind tunnel going to do? Is there a tunnel near your DZ, and are your students going to get a good rate now that you're mandating time?

While it's super cool to watch, I would lose my shit if I saw a snake gliding at me like that.

First time I tried adding my legs into a turn I cranked my head into the wall They are very solid.

Full face helmet okay for beginner jumper?
excaza replied to seanhindzinger's topic in Gear and Rigging
You're going to need to use their equipment at least for the first few jumps so you can be on radio for canopy pattern guidance. Not sure about once you're cleared for solos. -
Are you looking for actual line sets or just raw materials? If it's the latter, paragear has pretty decent prices.

As if we needed any other dickhead tandem nonsense
excaza replied to Decodiver's topic in Tandem Skydiving
It was pretty much this but with 2 people and on the bridle of the tandem. -
Thanks, I didn't even notice that! I sent Cookie an email a few days ago, while I was waiting for a response I figure I'd ask around (I think I'm a little enthusiastic ). Jeremy got back to me last night and said it can be done, so that clears it up!

Bumping this thread with something totally unrelated to a gopro Out of curiosity, is it possible to jump the G3 without the visor installed? I assume it's pretty simple to do since the clips can be swapped out, but I'm not sure if it will have any adverse effect on the integrity of the helmet.

Ways to improve your Skydiving Experience.

Would make for an interesting kiss pass -
Technically? Most likely. But why take the chance?

Video link to wingsuit landing here
excaza replied to Anvilbrother's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I would like to see a wingsuit-skeleton hybrid olympic event at future winter games.
