  1. I think you should modify the straps so you can cutaway the backpack.
  2. Sorry, didn't even look at your location before I posted
  3. I'm going to guess that English is not his first language so there may be things just lost in translation. Either way, it's not entirely clear what you're trying to do with this piece of software. It would help if you could explain to us what need you're filling and why we should be interested in your software over what's currently being offered.
  4. I would express some sort of concern that my chute hadn't started deploying after 5 seconds and at least looked over at my hand. That he didn't do either makes me think that it was intentional. Bizarre either way...
  5. That is so cool! If only it wasn't so stupidly expensive
  6. It's a good exercise to learn how to fly more with your core and legs. First time I tried it (pre-AFF) I clocked myself into the wall
  7. A nuclear weapons delivery system that actually got off the ground?
  8. Mainly because you can flip off the people left in the plane
  9. But...but...someone's being mean on the internet!
  10. Schedule They do a yearly tour around the country. I'm assuming the regions stay pretty much the same, but this is the first year I've heard about it. I don't think they allow jumps at every stop, but I could be wrong.
  11. Since you're doing AFF in the US, check out the USPA progression card here and look at the freefall skills. It seems like you've already got most of what you can work on the tunnel down (arch & turn). Working off of that, you can experiment with different body positions and learn to fly more with your legs/core instead of your arms. You can also try out some flips & barrel rolls (with a spotter!). Talk to the tunnel instructors as well, let them know that you intend to do AFF and they should be able to work up some exercises for you. I personally like to work on fall rate control & RW when I'm in the tunnel because I fall like a brick but I like doing RW and I'd like to get my coach rating eventually (can't fall out on a student!).
  12. Applying this broad brush is very bad advice. While therapy and training can fix and prevent many future issues, depending on the injury they can also exacerbate the problem. The best course of action is to go with what the physician recommends.
  13. The FAA guidelines in section 9 of the SIM go over a lot of it. http://www.uspa.org/SIM/Read/Section9/tabid/172/Default.aspx Exhibition jump guidelines would probably also be worth looking at: http://www.uspa.org/SIM/Read/Section7/tabid/170/Default.aspx Also, where does the plane land if you're jumping out of it?
  14. I've seen a few other similar projects from students, and it's a great academic project. Unfortunately, it doesn't go very far past the 'neat idea' phase commercially. It's an unnecessarily complex solution to something that really isn't a problem at a commercial dropzone. I heard there's a robot you can hand 6 bucks to and your packed parachute appears about 10 minutes later.
  15. When I had my shoulder work done (labrum repair and removal of some cartilage, outpatient arthroscopic) it was 6 weeks to get out of the sling, and another few months before I was anywhere close to back up to speed. I certainly wouldn't push it, especially with the position our shoulders are in while belly flying. YMMV, of course.
  16. Closed fist for me is practice pulls.
  17. If it's operating as designed, how is it a misfire? Seems more a case of not knowing one's gear.
  18. As a general rule, you want to change square footage or canopy type, not both at once. That being said, a 40 square foot drop is pretty sizable, but with these canopies I don't know how much you'd notice.
