If there are fewer guns in circulation, of the type used in crimes, then there will be fewer people who can use them to commit crimes. It's just common sense. Less guns, less crime. That i a simplistic argument which does not stand up to even the most fleeting of glances. A) Any firearm can be used in crime, in Australia and the UK that includes black powder handguns. Make one type harder to obtain and people who want to commit crime will just use another or improvise a firearm. B) Less guns does not mean less offences committed using firearms, they banned the majority of handguns in the UK and firearms being used in offences has risen not fallen. C) Switzerland has a military assault rifle in most houses yet they have one of the lowest rate of firearm related crime in Europe. D) Your argument does not take in to account the culture of the USA which is one of the biggest drivers of firearm crime. E) If you reduce the amount of firearms in circulation all you do is drive up the price, people who want them will still get them. Doesn't matter much. An AK is still powerful enough to kill people, lots of them, in a small amount of time. It's not so much the size of the bullet, but the ability to shoot fast without reloading. The darned things are a menace to society. How many people are kiiled every year using a knife? its the weapon of choice for terrorists when decapitating hostages. Yet you use one everyday and manage to restrain yourself from using it to lop off a waitresses head. Maybe they should be banned to darned menace to society When an author is too meticulous about his style, you may presume that his mind is frivolous and his content flimsy. Lucius Annaeus Seneca

There are a lot of things we don't 'need' in life, can you imagine what a bland and boring world it would be if you were only allowed to own that which you needed to own? Hey look I don't have a horse in this race but as far as 'But the general view of analysts and those in the industry is that Obama is the main catalyst.' It seem to be true but for all the wrong reasons, Americans appear to be more insecure than at any time since the depression, coupled with the fear that the government is going to some how take away peoples right to defend themselves people are stocking up. Its not like the POTUS is in anyway actively driving the sale in a pro industry kind of way, or am I incorrect? Should there be one single thread on the USA Election
Skyrad replied to Skyrad's topic in Speakers Corner
Damn, I bet you tell kids not to bother writing to Father Christmas too! 'Okay. Here's the reality; he doesn't exits, its just a fat guy in a suit. For a Santa to deliver all the presents to all the kids on the planet he'd have to fly in a sledge pulled by magic reindeer at the speed of light, that's just not going to happen. It's not like it's an obscure limited interest topic like DB Cooper (which I can generally keep at bay), it's something people are going to write in a jillion different ways a whole crap load of times each day. So listen kid, take your wish list for Santa and burn it, and while we're on the subject that brings me on to, The Tooth Fairy...' Should there be one single thread on the USA Election
Skyrad replied to Skyrad's topic in Speakers Corner
For the rest of the ENTIRE WORLD who don't currently have election it might be nice to see a page of threads which aren't full of Americans hating on each other over the colour (yes that is how its spelt in the English language) of their state. So how about it? Lets stick all the American hating Americans comments bitching over the election in one place and get back to talking other things as well. Yawn Great ANOTHER thread on the USA election, still at least this one isn't a hate thread... Yet. When an author is too meticulous about his style, you may presume that his mind is frivolous and his content flimsy. Lucius Annaeus Seneca

20 Spitfires found in Burma could be made airworthy
Skyrad replied to kallend's topic in The Bonfire
In this case its true, along with the Hurricane the Spitfire was the aircraft that won the Battle of Britain in 1940, while the USA were still prevaricating while watching Hitler take over Europe not wanting to get involved. If it weren't for this plane and the men who flew them from all over the Commonwealth, Poland, Czechoslovakia and the 7 American pilots who got stuck in. Britain would have been lost and America would have chosen appeasement of Hitler. The Jews, Gypsies, Homosexuals, Poles, Millions of Eastern Europeans, Jehova Witnesses and other people would have been eliminated entirely. How do you propose to make them quit hating us? Not invading countries on false pretences would generally be a good start Hey Stumpy, It would be a good start but lets look at the other side of the coin, people within the USA who hate the USA/the Government/sections of American society so much they will kill their own, what the hell is all that about? Well said ..... I was "in the job' for over 11 years. In those years I obviously worked with 100s of Police officers. 98 per cent were good decent people. 2 per cent were arseholes but you get that every where.(except Dzs LOL)(most of those 2 per cent did not last long) Squeak will not agree but most join for the right reasons. Why did i leave ? Its such a high pressure job I found 11 years enough (its not like you see on TV) Now do security for the Police and govt buildings. There is now more accountability than ever before with camersa etc. Even tasers have a camera that records as soon as drawn from the holster. I always found most people supported the cops until it affected them ie ticket for speeding etc. Then you were an arswhole for doing your job (or ass whole in USA speak) Believe it or not plenty of skydivers are in the job It is the same world wide irrelevant of the culture of the nation because the Police are recruited from the wider community and therefore are a microcosm of the society they Police, and every society has its heroes, ordinary people and a sprinkling of arses.
