  1. But you were so eloquent in your statement! I thought that was what I was doing? Silly me! There you go, I knew we'd agree on something if just kept going When an author is too meticulous about his style, you may presume that his mind is frivolous and his content flimsy. Lucius Annaeus Seneca
  2. Maybe not you education system but I've had enough dealings with you mil. Anyway I'll say what i like when I like if you don't like it don't read it, or feel free to respond. 3. One event is a crime against the individual your scenario is a crime against humanity. I would obviously be against such an act. You sign on the dotted line and you take your chances, you're a soldier and your job is to kill the enemy just as its his to kill you. If you happen to live in a society in which the only way to get a decent education is to be rich or join the forces then I pity those forces because the guy covering you might be better suited to be behind a desk in college not behind a rifle in Iraq. You may as well just have a draft. When an author is too meticulous about his style, you may presume that his mind is frivolous and his content flimsy. Lucius Annaeus Seneca
  4. Bill, by your reasoning we have the right to kill 2000 innocent people in one swift attack to retaliate against the terrorist. What has 9/11 got to do with Iraq? Nothing. 5. Sorry, your question was so far from the realms of reality I thought it was a retorical question. I'm against the war in Iraq, always have been so its obvious that I wouldn't approve of a crime against humanity. What the difference? One is a crime against the individual the other is a crime against humanity. You sign on the dotted line you take your chances, you're a soldier and your job is to kill just as your enemys job is to kill you. If you come from a society where the only way to get a decent education is to be rich or become a soldier then I pity you because that means that your going to end up fighting with people who proberbly should be in college not on the front line. 6. For all its nice toys the US military is unable to fight anything other than a asymetrical war against countries unable to defend themselves on the field. Why? Because the American people will not accept losses of its soldiers of any size. So consequently you will find yourselves time and time again fighting COIN operations of which up to now you have little if any experience. The enemy will use all means at his disposal to terrorise you and kill you. You will do the same. It isn't pretty, it isn't nice but it is the way it is. Unless your country sorts out its forigen policys you'd better just get used to it. 7. How do you say that in Arabic? http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060619/ap_on_re_mi_ea/iraq_soldiers_charged It's war, both side do horrible things. You guys had some interesting tactics too back in the 1970s in Ireland. Very true not to mention in the 80's and 90's as well. But like I said before Big boys game, big boys rules. Its a war, shit happens suck it up When an author is too meticulous about his style, you may presume that his mind is frivolous and his content flimsy. Lucius Annaeus Seneca
  8. How do you say that in Arabic? http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060619/ap_on_re_mi_ea/iraq_soldiers_charged If they murdered innocent people then they need to stand trial and be judged. Are you somehow trying to show parity to torturing someone by cutting off their testicles, gouging out their eyes, ripping out their hearts and cutting off their heads? It's pretty sad you don't see the difference. Deads dead. How do you know those dead iraqis wern't tortured first either....You don't. 11. 'Doing that (torture) since their prophet (Mohammed) was alive'. Thats how I read it. I was just pointing out that torture, for every civilisation, goes back beyond the dawn of time. As standards of decency evolve, so things like torture and capital punishment become increasingly unacceptable in advanced societies. So why does the US indulge in both with the overwhelming consent of its people? When an author is too meticulous about his style, you may presume that his mind is frivolous and his content flimsy. 12. If they were quoting a source they couldn't very well put words in his/her mouth. If thats what they said then thats what they said. nothing to do with being left wing or right wing, I'd say its just being objective. 14. Sounds strange, I'm guessing its so when they declare him KIA his widow will recieve a better pension. His status is MIA because it also keeps him alive, which keeps his salary available to his family back home. Prayers for all of them, unlikely but I hope they make it home. 16. No it's not. The only countries I know of that have such a law are Germany and Austria and those are national laws only effective within their borders. The UK certainly does not have such a law. I'd also add that it is likely that such laws are in breach of European laws and would be overturned the first time a case made it up to the European Court of Human Rights, (just as the court in this thread rightly overturned local legislation which was in breach of the overriding national legislation. I stand corrected, however there are laws that exist that it would be possible to use to proscecute someone who denies the holocaust in the UK. But there have been people jailed for this activity in Europe, David Irving comes to mind. Also now the UK is part of the EU if someone was to do so on the internet could they be proscecuted under European law? The major legislation dealing with racial hatred is contained in Part III of the Public Order Act 1986.(6) Section 18 outlines the principal offence, which is that of incitement of racial hatred through words, behaviour or the display of written material. The Crime and Disorder Act 1998, the Malicious Communications Act 1988, the Protection from Harassment Act 1997 and the Race Relations Act 1976 also have certain provisions which can have some bearing on hate speech (again, noted in Box 2). The relevant sections of the Public Order Act appear to have greater potential for tackling Holocaust-denial activity than the other pieces of legislation named in Box 2, which seem to have very limited, if any, application in this regard. However, no one has been prosecuted under the Public Order Act specifically for producing or disseminating Holocaust-denial literature, despite the assertions of the attorney-general and successive home secretaries that prosecution would take place where denial material is published with the intention of inciting racial hatred. Indeed, prosecutions for incitement of racial hatred of any kind have been rare since this was first made an offence in 1965. It appears that the legislation is framed in such restrictive terms that it discourages the prosecuting authorities from taking action other than in cases where the incitement to hatred brings a clear threat of violence or disorder. http://www.jpr.org.uk/Reports/CS%5FReports/no%5F3%5F2000/ Holocaust denial is illegal in France (Loi Gayssot), Belgium (Belgian Negationism Law), Switzerland (article 261bis of the Penal Code) and several other West European countries. The Council of Europe's 2003 Additional Protocol to the Convention on cybercrime, concerning the criminalisation of acts of a racist and xenophobic nature committed through computer systems includes an article 6 titled Denial, gross minimisation, approval or justification of genocide or crimes against humanity. http://www.martinfrost.ws/htmlfiles/holocaust_denial.html When an author is too meticulous about his style, you may presume that his mind is frivolous and his content flimsy. 17. But should "World's Policeman" selectively choose his duty based on the severity of the crime, or self interest? There are far worst situations in the world then Iraq. Why not settle North Korea first? After all, the United States, the World's Policeman, and North Korea, the Axis of Evil, are still at a state of war. How about the Rwanda genocide? Libera? Should the World's Policemam be able to defy the will of the UN? I don't think the United States deserves to be The World's Policeman. Vigilante maybe. Eugene Ever been fishing? You don't always catch the biggest fish, but that doesn't mean you stop going. Why is it no other country has been willing to seriously try to stop the genocide in Rwanda? Why does the world always expect us to deal with situations like No. Korea while they stand on the sidelines and jeer, but do nothing? And then criticize the US for not being the worlds policeman? I honestly hope the day comes when a President of the US responds to the UN regarding another crisis by telling them to deal with it themselves, we have too many problems of our own and we are tired of giving the world a free ride. Tell me what you would do if that happened? Better think hard because if we don't deal with countries like N.Korea, who will? No one expects or wants America to 'deal with' North Korea, is that what your media is telling you? 18. Why don't we look at this as a giant science experiment, since the liberals so heartily embrace science. We are injecting an antibiotic of democracy into a body filled with Islamic disease, in hope of healing the region. Iraq just happened to be the most accessable point of entry. Democracy has been around for tousands of years, its not a US invention. The majority of countries in the world are democratic. The Eastern block managed to get democracy without a US invasion and puppet government. What makes you think te world needs the Neo con Pax Americana dream? 20. A good post which makes the points that I have been making for some time. I haven't yet read the responses but no doubt they will be full of insults and accusations of being a traitor and all sorts of brainless comments like 'Hey, love it or leave it!' personally I see where you're coming from and agree with you. The sooner more of your countrymen and women wake up and smell the coffee the sooner America can sort itself out and hopefully become the great country that it used to be. Hopefully then it will work with the rest of te world instead of taking a line of illegal unilatralism that threatens the future of the generations to come.
