  1. Well, I think its time we disarmed the Americans and turned their guns into ploughshears for the third world countries. What do you as a responsible member of the world think. If they can't play nicely then we need to make sure they do! When an author is too meticulous about his style, you may presume that his mind is frivolous and his content flimsy. Lucius Annaeus Seneca

  7. This past weekend’s Wall Street Journal had a interesting article, The Lost Archive, on a recently re-discovered “photo archive of ancient manuscripts of the Q'uran.” Because the Q'uran is considered direct word of the prophet (PBWH), it is considered immutable. The (potential) introduction of other texts with different versions of the Q'uran is therefore heretical. Your comment reminded me of one example: “A scholar in northern Germany writes under the pseudonym of Christoph Luxenberg because, he says, his controversial views on the Quran risk provoking Muslims. He claims that chunks of it were written not in Arabic but in another ancient language, Syriac. The ‘virgins’ promised by the Quran to Islamic martyrs, he asserts, are in fact only ‘grapes.’ [or “white raisins”] ” More on the evidence/argument for 72 grapes or “white raisins” at “Virgins? What virgins?” Obviously, “Luxenberg” represents a minority, non-consensus view. Imagine, tho', how the temptation of 72 grapes or raisins might impact motivation of some suicide bombers? VR/Marg Grapes is my understanding of the translation not virgins. When an author is too meticulous about his style, you may presume that his mind is frivolous and his content flimsy. 11. That's what I was thinking while reading this thread. It's odd to me that Scientology is considered insane by the mainstream in the U.S., while Christianity is considered to be normal. (Well, I guess from a historical point of view, I understand it. But from a logical point of view, I don't.) What, are you saying that God wasn't a carpenter??? 14. The question is whether a dead body has any rights, or could be even considered as "someone"? Technically it could be even considered "abandoned property", in which case - in some countries I know about - the government gets kind of ownership about it. Also AFAIK if a person had some property during their life, did not have a will regarding this property, and there were no legal successors or they refused it, it becomes property of State. If the body was the person's property, it seems to fit into the picture pretty well. In the UK you belong to the next of kin when you are dead. 17. WTF??? I've never been to any other country where they took my fingerprints and photographed me like a common criminal, and thats after being hauled into a room and given shit for having a suntan and a funny sounding name by Charlie Chan's "number wun son" the fucker could barely talk English. On top of that they take our credit card details before we even get on the plane along with a shed load of personal information. If that isn't screening then WTF is??? Unless its for work I'm giving the US a wide berth. I'll go spend my Pounds somewhere where they know how to make people feel welcomed. Surley until the bomber inquestion has been found guilty they should be refered to as 'The alleged homocide bomber" Maybe they'll start talking about 'homicide gunmen' or 'homicide knifeman'or 'Homicide drug dealer'? 19. By ass raping them and beating them to death with a claw hammer. Seems like the "eye for an eye" thing to me! You have heard that it was said, "An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth". But I say to you, do not resist an evildoer. If anyone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. (Jesus of Nazareth, according to Matthew 5:38–39) In the Bible an eye for an eye was not a suggestion for violence against violence but a restraining influence. Before this it was usual for the relatives of a murdered man to not only kill his killer but all their family, kin and friends also. Hence an eye for an eye, limiting the punishment to the deed and not inexcess of the original afront. 21. Personal responsibility. If one is really bothered about what happens to your body after you die then one should have made preparations for the event of ones death. Maybe so but we're not talking about tax we're discussing the lives and deaths of people. I don't doubt that this will happen on occasion even with the information not lost. Systems are only as infallible as the people using them. However, if we take that approach then we should all stop skydiving today because if you keep on jumping sooner or later you will have a mal. The reality is one death is better than two. I agree, but no more traumatic than the grief felt by the family of a potential recipient that never got the organ they needed. We already have an opt out schme in the NHS for patients who do not want CPR and advanced life support in the event of an arrest, it works well. If we can manage to do that around a peri-mortem event then why not this? I agree, Nerdgirl brings up a good point. I would also like to see development and effort put into that direction as well as this policy put into place. I have known many patients who were waiting for an organ and most of them died without getting one, their lives cut very short. While meanwhile the organs they needed were in the same building in the A&E ready to be harvested but time and time agin they were incinerated or buried by relatives to upset to make the decision at the time. This protocol would place responsibility on each and every one of us for the future of our body after our death. The problem is that people today often refuse to take responsibility for themselves. I say lets make it law. When an author is too meticulous about his style, you may presume that his mind is frivolous and his content flimsy. Lucius Annaeus Seneca

  24. Hey John, I saw that aritcle and thought to myself "AhHA! I know what JR's next post is going to be!" I almost posted it myself. Its a stupid soundbite knee jerk reaction by a government that is either to out of touch or to scared to tackle the real causes of gun crime. A) The destruction over the last two decades of an effective border control organisation ie: HM Customs. B) The Yob culture of the UK and the acceptance of violence within this society. C) An impotent and scared police 'Service'. D) Turning Police into paper pushers. E) An influx of hardcore eastern european criminals. One question, why do you bother to make your gun control posts Polls? you know people will just post pro control because its your post. I don't think for a second that 67% of respondants think its a good idea, do you? When an author is too meticulous about his style, you may presume that his mind is frivolous and his content flimsy.
