  2. Interesting results so far, I wonder why atheists would be against Gay Marriage and/or Civil unions? When an author is too meticulous about his style, you may presume that his mind is frivolous and his content flimsy. Lucius Annaeus Seneca

  8. I'm the opposite - I think that the term "marriage" should be completely eliminated from the government. Leave that term to religions and private issues and everybody can then butt out of it. Let straight, gay and "etc" only contract to civil unions. Government should only recognize these civil unions (with a very shortened list of benefits). leave the rest to private contracts leave the 'marriage' bit out of government completely don't tax the individuals jointly, don't, don't, don't. Citizens are individuals, not couples, why mix it? apply benefits for children, only to people with children. (do it directly, not inferred) etc etc etc with that foundation - treat everybody the same, and use the same semantics also The more I think about it the more I like your idea. 10. I seem to recall the actual leaders of most of the major Islamic organizations in the US (and elsewhere) coming out very publicly against terrorism. Thinking all muslims are terrorists is as lame as thinking all caucasians are racists, or all christians are evangelists. You are right Tom and I don't think anyone who has posted so far in this thread would disagree but there are many people around here who still seem to think that Muslims are all terrorists or terrorist supporters, it still usual to hear people talking about Islam as a 'death cult' and other ignorant stupid and often racist comments. 12. It's not just the Pakistanis who are muslims. There are plenty of muslim soldiers in the US and UK militaries, as well. Thats a very good point that many people around here choose to ignore when they are banging on about how Muslims should do something about Islamist terrorists. 17. I see what you are saying but as you pointed out the US has directly setpped into the lives of millions outside its borders and still is. Unfortunatly these things don't go away over night. The UK is paying its debt of responsibility to what used to be our empire and is now the Commonwealth countries. The US may not have had a Empire of soverinty so much as economy but the debt of responsibility is just the same. Also if you think things are bad in the US now imagine just how much worse they would be if countries started to off load their reserves of US dollars onto the open market. The US is dependent on the good will of other countries just as much as they are on the US. He may not be at home all the time but good foriegn relations are esential to both the security and proserity of the citizens of the USA. 20. I think that that is the difference. The POTUS is directly responsible for the direct intervention in peoples lives across the world. Thanks to the mess that the US banking system created the whole world is now in a reccesion. How the US is governed has a direct effect on millions of non US citizens around the world. That entitles everyone to an opinion American or not. You are of course correct that his first responsibility is to the people of the USA but he also has a much wider responsibility to others around the world. 21. So I'm wondering what part religion has upon ones thoughts or belief on Gay marriage and civil unions? To be honest I still am not sure where exactly I stand on Gay marriage, but support Civil unions.
