  1. No idea about AFF thruput. Probably greater than 50% where i am Past AFF probably a bit greater. Horseshoe: talk to your instructors. My procedure: IF I have the altitude...try no more than twice to clear the attachment point then full EPs: cutaway and pull reserve by my hard deck. If I'm in the basement I'll hit silver and deal with whatever happens then. Follow the SIM and your instructors...the horseshoe is pretty much a bar quiz every week or two me. FWIW my EPs are one hand each handle and chop for any malfunction (PCIT for example); my rental gear does not include an RSL. Equip: analog alti (jump 2), full-face and audible (jump 52), digital alti (jump ~65), jumpsuit order (about the same). Saving money for a rig: every paycheck. Luckily I can afford to rent on the weekends and still jump while also putting away 1/3 of the paycheck every two weeks.
  2. Sometimes...but it broke. :( when fixed then...sometimes.
  3. I was told dark butt / dark booties. Nothing to do with my landings I'm sure... :p
  4. Just go on the same load and meet on the ground. After the TI has time to debrief the jump continue the up selling of the student progression. Everyone stays safe and you'll still have the "remember the time we jumped together" story regardless.
  5. Every Otter with -34s would make me happy... Frankly I just think it is going to be more expensive. Heard at the DZ: in the early days skydiving was dangerous and we tried to convince people it was safe; today skydiving is safe and we try to convince people it is dangerous. related to safety advances in equipment, obviously (and somewhat tongue in cheek) but the reality is that we are not dying or injuring ourselves due to equipment safety issues (for the most part) but for other reasons. Sort of makes the community an easy target for the rule-makers...
  6. Not illegal just rare. There are some cargo outfits that use them. But real small fleets - usually older versions too. There isn't much of a need unless you deliver to austere locations with short, unimproved runways.
  7. This one? http://www.dropzone.com/safety/emergencies/photos/114-l.jpg Comes from this thread (originally in "Parachuting - The Skydivers Handbook, IIRC): http://www.dropzone.com/safety/emergencies/emergency_aircraft.shtml#opem
  8. i was writing quickly on my phone...it was all done in the context of the packing class. students can pack their own rental rigs after the class. so do, some dont. the only time it is an issue is if it is really busy and there are more students than gear.
  9. I considered it a tip as it went directly to the packer as he not only assisted but watched like a hawk while I packed without assistance several times Money well spent IMHO.
  10. Fantastic helmet. Field of vision is pretty amazing.
  11. Was hoping it would have been more along the lines of Britney getting out of the car. Alas...subject was a guaranteed thread view at any rate
  12. I switched to a digital ~20 jumps ago and wish I'd done it sooner. Very easy to read. For me easier than an analog. Quick glance and I see an 8 and know where I am. I borrowed one from another jumper to try and bought one before the next load. I have a Viso2 FWIW.
  13. I ended up getting a G3 (XL)...if only because it was the only one that fit my noggin. Tried on most of the "popular" lids out there. Really liked the Factory Diver (plus the price point) but it simply didn't fit well. I really do like the field of vision that I get out of the G3. Plus once I forgot to strap it on and it stayed on my head through opening so that is a bonus...
  14. In general I think this is a good idea. Some quibbles with the proposal as stated but the "overall point" of the idea is a good one IMHO.
  15. Funny enough...this was exactly the same suggestion that Dean O'Flaherty offered in the "profile" section this month. I, too, concur. More about the U.S. skydiving community as a whole and not just the top bubbas.
  16. In the past few weeks I've put 10 jumps on a Pulse 210, 5 on a Nav/Silhouette 200 (close enough for gov't work) and 8 on a Storm 190. Gonna try the Pulse 190 this weekend (was gonna get a Pulse but the Storm was in the container and saved me a hookup and pack job). Liked the Pulse openings...quick but not harsh. Positive opening feel, at least to me. Forgiving of poor body position . 5 terminal and 5 h&p. Long-spot killer...the thing just glides forever. Took a bit to figure out the landing glide. If you've jumped a Navigator you've basically jumped the Sihlouette from what I've been told by my Is. The various 7-cell-ish stuff applies with the Storm. Liked the openings, handled a bit snappier than the Pulse. Want to direct-compare the two at the same size. TBH, I didn't find the difference between the Pulse / Nav/Sihl to be all that great. It turns better, opened a bit quicker (but not hard) etc. WL was a bit under 1. 190 puts me at ~1.03-04 depending on the beer weight that week. I would happily purchase either the Storm or Pulse and put a bunch of jumps on them...slight preference for the Storm but will be better informed by Monday.
  17. My guess is that they'd be happy to accommodate someone in the Canadian military (assuming that was the point of the question...).
  18. Cool. If I'm B'd I'll bring the paperwork. If not I'll talk to the ZHills folks to see if they think it is appropriate and have them get in touch if cleared.
  19. Dumb question...do you need a B for balloon jumps? I should have it y then...but the wind and the rain etc etc. have no problem prepaying... I'm coming btw Cheers
  20. Nice Cat B. Arch! I fell (fall...) like a 2x4 so I know that signal well... Congrats
  21. Did you put it in the trash can infested with bees?
  22. This is the one that I've seen a few folks carrying around / referencing at the DZ...granted, it is for sale in the store so dunno how easy to find except on the below website. Seems rather comprehensive (at least to my noob eyes) lol. http://www.skydivingmagazine.com/book_pages/1/SkydivingFormations1.htm
  23. any word on this? Next court date listed 28 Feb 12 with "Awaiting Plea."
  24. Undoubtedly. I was simply looking to see if folks had any personal recommendations.
