  1. Only relevant with respect to the fact that there is a difference between Farmer McNasty and Farmer East Coast Storage Facility for Submarine Launched Nuclear Missiles McNasty. A case of beer probably won't calm down the security forces... And the DZO's actions clearly didn't help. Not every airport is suitable for skydiving, I guess.
  2. Had a guy in my AFF progression that was a walking metal skeleton from an old industrial accident 20 years ago. Couldn't and still cant really arch. Talked with the instructors etc and they found a way to make it work for him...so the help is there. He will probably pick up his C license in under a year. Don't give up. Anyone can fall but there are many ways to fly (safely). And the unstable AFF jumps are the best part at the end. :)
  3. I'd get the foam regardless of manufacturer if you have the cash lying around...I find it much more comfortable.
  4. what is tracing? heard it on skydive radio the other day and went figured it was just a fancy name for atmo or something...tried a search here and nothing.
  5. Tony Hathaway can swoop the shit of of a Spectre, too. The pilot makes the wing etc etc. Me? I just like watching top pilots do their thing.
  6. Call Orlando and ask for the contact info for Chris Dixon or Mike Wilks and explain that you're looking for AFF-specific coaching - frankly pretty much any of the experienced guys up there proper coaching. If you're looking for AFFIs that also tunnel instruct I can give you a list as well - and ask around Sebastian to see who they recommend. Looks like FL will be jumpable on Saturday though it may be exceed student limits - particularly with the goofball winds in Sebastian. Go to the DZ anyway. Take a packing class. Talk to instructors...lots to do and learn even when the weather goes to shit.
  7. Nah...you're just getting better at converting speed into lift (having a but more energy in the system due to higher suspended weight helps too). :) Is this still on a Pulse?
  8. I didn't know what it was either...about the only thing the manual is good for is to learn the 45 button sequence to turn it off. I'm sure you'll just throw it in your bag an let it turn itself off like everybody else. Lol.
  9. Pg 55 in the manual: The VISO II is water resistant. The Air Filter is the white circular part mounted on the side of the unit. If it becomes wet (after a splash in the swoop pond) then let the VISO II dry in a warm place for 48 hours. Note: The Air Filter must be replaced if jumping is resumed quickly or if the VISO II has been submerged into water. Air Filter removal tooling kit is an accessory which can be purchased separately. http://www.l-and-b.dk/downloads/manuals/pdf/visoII/VISOII_Manual_040909.pdf
  10. Thanks...figured as such. Been a while since I thought about the TLOs for the student H&Ps.

    Verizon FiOS

Yes...it is fantastic. I think I have the middle speed package and it is damned quick. TV picture is crystal clear...much better than I ever had on cable.
  12. Do they have to be poised? Both of my student h&p were diving exits. Granted I usually do a clear and pull at least once a day per weekend so poised exits are no big deal...but I was allowed to choose...? ETA: I also did a few poised H&P on solo status before my "official" ones so maybe that's it...
  13. Depending on the budget (the Caymans ain't cheap...), Sunset House on Grand Cayman is a fantastic site - not to mention the diving is out of this world down there. Did my cert here eons ago. Basically a resort that caters mainly to divers. They have a great bar, too, which always helps. http://www.sunsethouse.com/
  14. They sounded like they think it is their right to land in a secure area. No remorse, no apology. (at least from the article. and we know how that can be) Skydivers continue to be their own worst enemy. Sparky Well...probably doesn't help that King's Bay isn't just any submarine base...it is the east coast home of the Navy's nuclear missile subs. At least TJP realizes that they need to update their aerial photos...
  15. For a new jumper a Pulse is a fantastic wing - at least I think so. I've jumped three sizes and couldn't' be happier. I have a 150 main tray and fit a 170 Pulse in there with no problem. For giggles we also packed a 150 Sabre2 and the Pulse was barely bigger (barely, barely bulkier). Tray also fits a 7 cell 170...but the Spectre and Storm 170 packed up significantly bigger. I don't know if I'd do that long-term due to deforming the entire system somewhat. I have a Talon FX, FWIW. Pulse (in pretty much any size) is difficult to find second-hand. I had to buy a new one.
  16. oh yes yes yes... from the sebastian invasion...if this doesn't want to make you jump right MEOW you probably need to find another sport... http://vimeo.com/34315046 ETA: or March Madness http://vimeo.com/41308187
  17. *raises hand* Apparently I may or may not have to vote on this in the near future given that a "poll of the membership" may be coming. Consider the following: 1) Can do an average skydive but cannot wing suit due to lack of jumps 2) Doesn't really know shit about WS outside of a) what i read on dizzy.com and 2) what i talk about in the loading area or at the bar 3) will probably give it a whirl given enough jumps 4) generally opposed to regulation absent a need For those that get a ballot but don't know shit from shit...are there links which can be read so that one can draw an independent conclusion and vote appropriately? thx
  18. That book is awesome. You can hear Dan's voice when reading the words
  19. Picked up Canopies at Dusk on Kindle for a buck...based on a recommendation in the Bonfire. Very quick read...interesting side of things from way before my time in the sport. http://www.amazon.com/Canopies-at-Dusk-ebook/dp/B005CSNM28/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1344522968&sr=8-1&keywords=canopies+at+dusk ETA: Above All Else is a steal at $2 on Kindle...considering I paid full price for the dead tree version...
  20. Pretty sure he's talking about a Cookie G3 helmet vice a Mirage G3 container...
  21. That's pretty spectacular. "Got any ideas"? Amazing airmanship.
