Good week... (stretching the topic, I know). C license, two night jumps, one high altitude (22K+), a day of competition 8-way...plus now cold enough for a toasty bonfire. 17ish jumps, I think. Saw three buddies pick up their A, too. Maybe the best part. :)

Saw a guy hook in a Pulse 150 on Tuesday and basically show his ass to all of the xfire / katana er al fliers (the pro guys training for Dubai gave him a look, too). As we walked through the crowd to packing he mumbled "talk to me when you're ready to dowsize.". Granted his daily wing is a sub 100 velo...but it was way impressive.

Good job, buddy. You were definitely the smiling-ist skydiver at the dz this weekend!

Same. Bar RUMINT says that Billy is back in town, as it were.

I carry around a box of disposable latex/rubber gloves during the winter. Put the gloves on under at std pair of neumans (sp?). Was ~ -15F today when I got out. Hands were toasty warm. Used them all last winter too. A box of 50 is ~$5 at your local food store.

3 questions: 1) prefer dry or liquid pectin? 2) do you strain / squeeze juice after the food pro - why or why not 3) distribution of peppers. Any tricks? I've heard turning upside down for a bit etc. I assume you boil for shelf stabilization... Thx

How do foreign hotels and "incidental" deposits work?
hillson replied to guineapiggie101's topic in The Bonfire
Just like it is done here...you'll be fine just dropping the plastic. Take a second and walk into The Peninsula right around the corner for some serious hotel envy. :) HKG is pretty amazing, too, as airports go -
No idea why you're looking for the numbers but I'll bite...mainly because I'm bored...and enjoying beer. Perris: 130k. Source: reported to Perris chamber of commerce All of the below were included in the FAA PLA study: Deland: 93k X-Keys: 53k Sebastian: 20-40k Palatka: 16k Rando FL Cessna DZs - mainly TDM: 1500-5k ZHills: 74k - as reported on their FB page and in the email newsletter. Conclusions? CA, FL, "Joisey" all doing pretty damned good. I'm sure AZ may do a jump or two as does Chicago and the PNW and New England and TX. Better stats: buddies that have done the x-country roadies and have always been able to find a plane to jump from, in season. But like everyone else: comes down to desire and dollars...

I'll let other folks comment specifically on the canopy choices (but i agree about giving the sizing a good, hard think...)...if you have the cash for everything...it certainly doesn't hurt in the comfort compartment. I can't find the link on the new ChutingStar site...but they had a "new guy buying gear" section of advice (looks like it should be under here but looks like they're "working on the server" or something http://www.chutingstar.com/expert-advice/) and they essentially said what you proposed: custom rig, used nylon. Once it is back up it walks through the pros and cons of various ways to get gear: all new, mixed, all used etc.

Give a holler to Oren Kalb (i think he is okalb on here...dunno how much he actually logs in). You can also shoot me a PM and I'll send you his info. He and Laura organize the ZHills scrambles every year...and can give you mucho good advice. Also do a search on here for "scrambles" or "ZHills scrambles" or something like that...a bunch of info pops up - to include the draws, who to stick with who etc. i'm sure other folks will chime in with other infos etc.

Didn't hear around the DeeZee that you'd picked up your A card. Maybe I missed it...

I also drop in a Shout Color Catcher sheet. Don't know if it actually does anything but I haven't had the colors bleed yet.

In my (limited) experience...PD 7 cells (Spectre and Storm) sized at 170 will fit in my 150 container. Barely. And I mean barely. They packed smaller than a similar 9 cell, of course, but the volume reduction was not as much as I was expecting. These were not new canopies fwiw. YMMV, of course.

Damage to the wiring from the control unit to the display which caused the fault. I can ask for more specifics but as it seemed reasonable I didn't really press. Was told the brains of the device passed whatever tests they do... Properly fit (ie no over stuff) wings for sa2 190 and pdr 176, fwiw.

Experience beats noob curiosity every time...damaged on reserve deployment. Feel kinda dumb, now...

Can't beat Eloy for tunnel proximity for sure...Orlando isn't bad if you don't mind driving ~1hr ZHills / Deland...Sebastian ~1.5hrs. Plenty of lift in FL during the season (plus the summer weather is gone now and it is fantastic here). There are CSPA ticket holders in ZHills if you want the Canadian program vice the USPA. Dunno about Deland / Sebastian. Sebas has the least amount of "regular" winter lift but they do have the Invasion... CA/FL/AZ...all fit your requirements for beer / camping / turbines / instruction etc. I have my preference, obviously...but I also live in Tampa. :p

That's a good point...I suppose I should have waited for more info, eh? Mainly curious if anyone has heard of spontaneous shut-offs as I have a V2 as well...

Haven't seen this one yet (searched...). Buddy had a cutaway this weekend after a regular 5-way belly jump...out at 13.5 pull at 3. Nothing crazy. I saw his cutaway (from riser-release) after I was fully deployed at ~2.2-2.3K. Std stuff there too...EPs and gear worked as designed. Was our first jump of the day and we geared up together. Watched him turn on his Vigil 2 and display "Pro." At the loft the rigger found: 1) Unit OFF (jumper walked from LZ to loft with gear on) 2) Unit wouldn't cycle - stuck in the Vigil "Hello" trap 3) Cutter not fired Unit has a mfg date of Dec 11, jumper has had it for about 6 months (guesstimate). Unit not subject to any updates / service bulletin fixes (incl the LCD 2.20 issue). Confirmed by mfg date and serial - rigger doublechecked on the spot. Unit currently being shipped back for "checking" etc. In sum: V2 on when gear put on. Off after cutaway. Wouldn't turn on past "Hello". Bueller...bueller...bueller?

Wicked Wingsuits @ Skydive City Zhills for the Winter!
hillson replied to WickedWingsuits's topic in Wing Suit Flying
Will one of the FFC days be on the weekend? ETA: the group ones -
Ask him about his high speed run over Libya back in the 1980s. Throttles firewalled, still accelerating through Mach 3. Something insane when they had to turn back for fuel. Pretty sure that story is in the book

Started the sport in my early 30s...glad I did...much better appreciate of risk. At least in my case.

Nice joke of a thread... :(
