I meant any of the older religions... It's a somewhat vague word, but I think most people understand what I mean. (It's impossible to word any of the options perfectly I think - just trying to get a general idea...) I mean god in the dictionary sense, which I believe could include Tao and Zen: "1. God a. A being conceived as the perfect, omnipotent, omniscient originator and ruler of the universe, the principal object of faith and worship in monotheistic religions. b. The force, effect, or a manifestation or aspect of this being. 2. A being of supernatural powers or attributes, believed in and worshiped by a people, especially a male deity thought to control some part of nature or reality. 3. An image of a supernatural being; an idol." (many gods would be the plural version of this definition) Sorry if your answer doesn't fit any of the options I listed (with so many possible answers, I knew I'd leave someone out!)

I see your point... Your wording would have probably made more sense than mine, but that's basically what I meant... It's hard to come up with the right wording for these options - guess I could have gotten opinions before posting the poll.

Um, could you put that in English for me? If you're saying I should have put "yes" or "no" as the options, I did think about that but I don't think it's necessarily a "yes or no" question (though it may seem like it is to those whose answers are "yes" or "no" )...

not as far as i know Ah, after monitoring it for a bit I think I was wrong about that... I tried to word it as carefully as possible to prevent the whole religious debate thing, so hopefully that will work. I'd like to get as many votes as possible without some ugly debate that just ends up getting locked.

Sorry, I guess that one's a little vague... but I mean basically any belief in "god" or whatever name you have for it that does not comply with any of the more traditional beliefs... the "Higher Power" phrase I think comes from alcoholic or drug abuse programs, but I was just using that as an example...

Exactly... it's already been debated into the ground... that's why I'm more interested in seeing simple answers rather than explanations.

I was just reading something that stated that 92-97 percent of Americans believe in God (which I'm not sure how accurate that number is), and I'm just curious how that compares to what dz.commers believe. I do not want to start a religious debate (since this has already been debated into the ground), so please do not answer "why"... I apologize in advance if I left out any options, but please feel free to tell me if I did ;-)

LOL Good point... and I do like Neil's avatar (and he seems like a very nice person too)... But somehow I think the relationship might come to an abrupt end the first time we have a discussion about religion!???

Yeah I know, posting opinions regarding religion in a public forum is a good way to start a fire... certainly not trying to start a fire, but sometimes I just speak my mind.

If you'll read my original post, I did say I don't care what religion he is... He can be a Christian without mentioning "God" in his speeches about why we're at war with Iraq, etc... Ok

That's an interesting story... It's interesting how he chose to leave "equality" out because of women and African-Americans... Oh well, at least we've come a long way since then.

Wow, things certainly have changed since we were "One Nation, Under God". . . . . . . . Sad, really (IMHO) Speaking of that, the "Pledge of Allegiance" is unconstitutional as well. (Haven't they had that taken out of schools now, or at least taken out the "under God" part of it???) Quite a few people in this country either do no believe in "God" or believe in a different type of god than the Christians do - that is why religion has no place in the government of our country. I'm not saying that people shouldn't be religious, I'm just saying it doesn't belong in the government...

Grrrr.... I've tried really hard to like George W., but all this "God" stuff is just pissing me off! I don't care if he chooses to be religious himself, but religion of any nature has NO business in the government of our country! And as for the prisoners, I think what they need is counseling - not having "God" shoved down their throats (unless of course they are Christian and prefer that sort of counseling)... Sorry to vent, but it has really been bothering me lately the way he blatantly ignores "separation of church and state"...

Yeah, I might actually vote for him... Gotta hear a little more of what he has to say though... (being a girl, the free BOOBIES don't matter much to me ;-)

I used to try and get my whuffo friends to start skydiving - I guess mostly for selfish reasons because I know it would be so much fun to jump with them! But after and having a few friends who got busted up pretty bad and a couple who were killed, I now don't try to convince anyone to even do so much as a tandem because, realistically, skydiving is not that safe... Now if they were to decide on their own that they wanted to try it, I would be happy and supportive of course but I don't think it's a good idea to try and talk people you care about into participating in such a risky activity if they're not really interested... Just my two cents.

That looks hillarious! I never saw the first two movies - are they pretty funny? Maybe I will rent one tonight... always looking for a good comedy.
