  1. I sort of agree here. I think he always supported it, but because of politics he wouldn't be completely open about it. And I think all politicians do this sort of thing. Which is why I wouldn't make a very good politician. I doubt that this is true. http://www.gallup.com/poll/147824/adults-estimate-americans-gay-lesbian.aspx U.S. adults, on average, estimate that 25% of Americans are gay or lesbian. More specifically, over half of Americans (52%) estimate that at least one in five Americans are gay or lesbian, including 35% who estimate that more than one in four are. Thirty percent put the figure at less than 15%. Sorry, I'm missing your point here. (???)
  2. Ron just said that this would ensure he would NOT get re-elected. I think America's about 50/50 on the issue, so I doubt it will affect his campaign either way.

    Polygamy

Ummm... Don't we already have that? (And you're assuming here, that suddenly lots of people jump into polygamous marriages.) And just because the guy has two wives, it doesn't mean he's getting any sex. And it doesn't mean the wives aren't having sex with some of the unmarried guys. And with the divorce rate, what is the likelihood that the marriage would even last? I mean really, the "sanctity of marriage" thing is such a joke, with all of the infidelity and divorce.

    Polygamy

I think consenting adults should be able to enter into whatever kind of relationship they want to be in. If it's "legal" polygamy, it would bring up some different issues than same-sex marriage does, because now we're talking about more than two spouses. But I'm sure that could be worked out.
  7. This would mean that Scandinavians would have a giant obesity problem. They don't, because your argument is nonsensical. There is no correlation between socialization of health care and obesity. I must have missed where he blamed it on socialized medicine - can you highlight it in his post for me? "Socialization of America" != "socialized American medicine" Society paying for an individual's diabetes sounds like socialized medicine to me. If that's not what lawrocket meant, then perhaps he can clarify?
  8. My BMI says I'm in the healthy weight range. But I say I'm fat, and my high blood pressure and high cholesterol seem to agree with me. So I'm working on losing a few pounds and generally getting healthier. I think the BMI is designed to work for _most_ people, but people with a small frame (like myself) or people with lots of muscle (and some others) may not get an accurate picture from it. As far as worrying about who will pay for it.... No matter who pays for it financially, the unhealthy person pays for it with his or her wellbeing. Who wants to take a bunch of pills or insulin shots, or have surgeries? I doubt that people are getting fat/unhealthy because they don't care about paying for it. I do think it has a lot to do with our modern lifestyle, and there are things the government can do to encourage people to make better choices. Ultimately, it's up to the individual. Though I think a lot of children are now starting out overweight/obese due to their parents' poor decisions, and they're going to have a much harder time overcoming it. So I think I would support most measures to make public schools a healthier environment and better influence.

  10. That's one of my favorite movie scenes ever. I remember seeing it when I was kid and thinking it looked like so much fun. Hadn't heard of the octomom doing a similar shoot.
  11. So now there's an action figure of her: http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/sideshow/jersey-tanning-mom-inspires-action-figure-182150456.html And SNL did a skit about her over the weekend. Something tells me she's going to end up with a reality show from this whole deal.
  12. I guess the dolphin finally got tired of all the dumb-shit animals staring at him and harassing him on their stand-up paddleboards: http://news.yahoo.com/wayward-calif-dolphin-leaves-wetlands-172049998.html;_ylt=A2KJjanLWahP8x4AwQ3QtDMD
  13. Apparently, they have recovered the memory card now: http://news.yahoo.com/pilot-hang-glider-accident-killed-woman-remorseful-says-195804276.html Sad story for everyone involved.
  14. Not quite so fancy, but more affordable.... there is an underwater "hotel" in the Florida Keys too: http://jul.com/ I've never been, but I've been interested since I heard of it.
  15. Interesting take on that, Tom. You've left me wondering, for the first time, if perhaps I am a nihilist.
  16. It's still Cinco here. I stopped by the Perris dz, but pretty much the only sound there was crickets. The moon was pretty though.
  17. But it's such valuable experience that you can add to your resume.
  18. When I first saw the story, I saw it in several different places, and not one mentioned the mom's tan. That's what I found weird - it was showing pictures of her with an almost-black face, but no mention of why she looked like that. Now it seems like most of the stories are focused more on the mom's tan than on the issue of her allegedly taking her daughter into the tanning booth. Anyhow, she does seem to have some sort of psychological problem, and she did seem drunk in some of the interviews. I suppose there are all kinds of addictions and disorders; I just had never heard of this particular one. I enjoy tanning myself (though preferably floating around in some water), but I can't imagine letting myself get that dark. I didn't even know a white person could get that dark from tanning. I hope she is able to get some help for whatever problem she may have - for her sake and for her kids.
  19. I don't know, but I get really annoyed with the old line, "It's a permanent solution to a temporary problem." How the fuck do you know what kind of problem the person was having??? (Not aimed at you, lawrocket.) Chronic pain, physical or mental, shouldn't have to be endured if the person doesn't want to endure it, and if the person has given up on finding a solution. The one thing that we truly own is our own lives, and that's nobody's business. Though I do hope that once someone has taken on dependents, that they will include that in their consideration of what is worth enduring.
  20. Am I just crazy or..... I keep seeing this news story about a mom who allegedly took her kid into a tanning booth.... and in all the pictures, the mom looks like she is burnt toast, but this is never mentioned.... I can't even pay attention to whether or not she took her kid into the tanning booth, because I'm just thinking WTF????? looking at her picture. Is it just me?
  21. And I would watch it! He's probaby more interesting than most other reality show stars . . .
  22. I want to bring him home and cuddle him and call him my Squishy. I might need a bigger, saltier pool though . . . Sounds like he may have been bullied: http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/abc-blogs/dolphin-wetlands-may-chased-rescuer-says-215446049--abc-news-topstories.html We mess with nature in all kinds of ways. I don't see a problem with un-beaching whales. It sounds like they've tried to move this dolphin back to the open ocean, but for whatever reason he didn't go, so they're going to leave him alone for now. Well, not really "alone," with the massive amount of attention he's getting from people around there.
  23. Yes, I liked that too. Unfortunately, I don't think that most politicians would publicly be very open to atheism.
  24. Came across this interview from two years ago: http://forum-network.org/lecture/mitt-romney-case-american-greatness And found it much more informative than all the campaign stuff going around recently. For anyone who is conservative, neutral, and/or able to put partisanship aside, I think it's a good watch.
