I got the tough guy too, except my score was 75% masculine, 82% athletic, 27% exotic, and 25% refined. But I didn't find most of the guys to be attractive. Actually most of my choices were based on who was the least unattractive to me. But then I do tend to have sort of weird taste...

Hmm, I step out of Speakers Corner for a while and someone actually posts something that is interesting...

Hmm, then I wonder what is going on in all of these tanning salons around here... Hmm...

What exactly is an adrenovirus? Is that some sort of virus that causes people to seek out an adrenaline rush?

Thank god I don't live in a Pizza Delivery Area!

Yes, it will happen... and they will have all of your genetic information as well. Those pizza delivery people are up to no good... -
My first Internet connection was through Steve Jackson's company, Illuminati Online... At the time, I had a choice between them and Compuserve. So I called them up - I believe it was just Steve and one other guy that made up the whole company - and they told me I had to go down to their "office" to pay for the service. So they gave me directions to some building in East Austin (the "not so nice" part of town), told me to park in the alley and knock on the door of the small building that was behind the bigger one... So I get there and it is this rather interesting guy with seriously thick glasses, in a small room full of modems, and I give him a check and he gets me set up online (no www at that time)... One of my favorite things of the services they offered was this MUD called the Metaverse, which is probably what originally got me hooked on the online experience. (Well that, and being able to email people, even though I only knew two other people who had email addresses)... Their company ended up becoming one of the biggest ISPs in Austin, but I just looked them up again and it appears that they were bought out by PrismNet at some point (or at least that's where their URL is now redirected to). So, as for the Illuminati... I had never heard of them until I got my first Internet connection, and because of the company I was using, I began to hear stuff about them... but most of what I heard just sounded like a typical conspiracy theory-type thing to me (though I should say that I really don't know enough about it to be certain).

Yep, I'm the same way. But it's sort of nice to have advertising that is interesting rather than annoying... And I've gotten some good stuff that way, things that I might have never heard of... I had an email from them this morning, asking me if I wanted to buy this book: How Animals Have Sex : A Guide to the Reproductive Habits of Creatures Great and Small... And actually I would like to buy it (they know me so well ), except that my reading time is maxed out with school books for the next four months. So I put it in the "Save for Later" list. Yep, I'm a sucker...

If the government wants to know anything about me, amazon.com would probably be the best people to ask. They seem to know more about me than I know about myself. It's kinda creepy... I know what you're saying, and it's something that concerns me... But I choose to be concerned rather than to be scared because being scared often leads to paranoia, which is not very helpful... Oh, and I think a lot of people (including myself) now visit Aljazeera and other such websites, so I doubt that the government is placing too much emphasis on that sort of activity, but who knows... (Hmm... Funny, I say I'm not paranoid, and then I start to type certain things but end up erasing them because I'm not so sure it's a good idea to post them over the Internet. )

Ok, now it would be pretty funny to get a "favorite band/song" thread moved to SC. Seriously though, it's fascinating stuff... (especially to an atheist ;) Oh, and I think my current favorite band is the Greens Keepers... I still can't get that freakin' "Lotion" song out of my head!

People are just now figuring this out? I pretty much assume that anything I write in email or PM's, or anything that I search for over the Internet, can be seen at least by certain people if they want to see it. That's just how it works... And I'm pretty sure that "info-farming" was going on before Google even existed, so if you want to boycott anything because of privacy concerns then you should probably boycott the entire Internet. But I do think it's good that Google is standing up to the government in this case...

I haven't been listening to much music lately... When I'm driving around, I usually seem to have the radio set to some sort of religious station, so that I can hear what they're preaching about... But, of the music I have been listening to most recently... Marilyn Manson, PJ Harvey, Peter Gabriel... My favorite band/song changes often...

Jack Daniels and Diet Coke. (The Diet Coke makes it a girly drink. )... Ok, well you can taste the alcohol in the first one that you have, but if you make it strong enough then you won't taste the alcohol in the next ten...

Yes, but you are weird... and "straight" men prefer to wear little tight pants and "tackle" each other, forming the occasional "man pile" on top of one another... oh, and occasionally slapping each other on the rear... -
Wow, what a nice way to go through life - believing that you are a bad person, and that everyone else in the world is bad too, because that is what "God" tells you. Whoever originally wrote this stuff must have been a true sadist...

And I'd say that you are wrong. I don't even have the tiniest question in my heart about whether these are the words of God or not. God does not exist, and something that does not exist cannot speak any words. And I'm as likely to start believing in the Christian "God" as I am to start believing in Zeus or any other mythological character. But if I did believe in it, I'd be more than happy to announce it on a public forum. As for the title of this thread, I'm an atheist... but I can't say that I get any sense of "pride" from that - I just am. At the moment it kinda sucks being an atheist in a country where the large majority of the people believe in "God." But majority opinion won't change my beliefs... And, no offense, but this is the exact sort of stuff that makes Christians look silly. But now I'm curious, for those of you who do believe that the ten commandments are the word of God, and something that you should live your life by... Do you think that God would expect someone to honor their father and mother even if that someone had been beaten and emotionally abused by their father and mother? In fact, I can't see anything in the ten commandments that says you shouldn't beat or emotionally abuse your children, so God must think it's ok...

Liberals vs. Conservatives in Higher Education

Liberals vs. Conservatives in Higher Education
Shotgun replied to Shotgun's topic in Speakers Corner
Ok... and that's your right to believe so... Personally, I use different writing methods for communicating in a casual online forum than I do when I am writing for publication, or for business correspondence, or for a school paper, or for any instance that might require "proper" writing skill... Casual communication on the Internet has influenced the development of all sorts of "creative techniques" of writing (including emoticons )... and most of it has very little to do with one's level of literacy. -

Shotgun replied to Shotgun's topic in Speakers Corner
So I suppose the use of emoticons would also indicate sub-standard writing; no one would use such things in a proper essay or a college textbook, would they? Therefore, anyone who uses such silly writing techniques in a casual online forum, must surely be borderline illiterate, eh? -

How would using dots in a casual online forum indicate one's level of literacy? -
What's the average price of a 1 or 2 bed flat (apartment) where you live?
Shotgun replied to Newbie's topic in The Bonfire
They start at ~$380K, up to a few million... But there are quite a few decent houses in the $400-$500K range. Edited to say: But if you're looking to be close to the Perris DZ, Menifee and Sun City are ok areas that are closer, and real estate might be a tiny bit cheaper (maybe). -
Liberals vs. Conservatives in Higher Education
Shotgun replied to Shotgun's topic in Speakers Corner
And that's really not what I meant to start with this thread, but obviously I didn't give much thought to it, because that is exactly what I started. I was just curious why there seemed to be more liberals in college, or at least more liberals teaching in college and writing the textbooks... but that really has nothing to do with whether liberals are more intelligent than conservatives or vice versa. And I think that is the best statement that has been made throughout this thread. And I think that of all the experiences and education that we attain in our lifetimes, this is the best thing that one can learn, no matter which route it is achieved through. -

~$300K I live in Murrieta, CA, which is close to Perris but the area is a bit nicer.
