I have heard the same thing - about dreams all being in black and white... yet I have never had a black and white dream!... I have crazy, bizarre, sometimes lucid ;) dreams... but always in vivid color.

Perfect except for the typo that you made me go back and edit. I can never tell when you're being sarcastic on here...

I realize that it is usually seen as offensive, and I didn't mean for it to be that way in my post... For me, I was somewhere around 7-8 years old when I fully realized that I didn't believe in this God that everyone at my church worshipped, and so I started trying to understand why everyone else did believe in it. Being a child (with a simple mind), Santa Claus was the closest comparison I could find... The church seemed like a good place that did good things for people, so I sort of thought that most people just pretended to believe in it for the sake of the church (or something like that). Of course I now realize what religion and the belief in God means to so many people, and even to society in general. (Though I have mixed feelings about whether or not our society would be better off without those beliefs.) I don't think that believing in God makes someone simple-minded. (Who am I to call anyone simple-minded? ;-) It's just not something that works for me personally...

I wouldn't want to kick such a nice ass. Ok, well actually I've never even seen him or his ass, but his students sure seem to think that he has a nice ass.

If they want to keep doing things that are contrary to God's word, then that would mean that they do at least believe in God. A nonbeliever is never doing anything contrary to God's word, except in the minds of the believers.

I see God as something that is real to those who believe in it, and that belief alone makes God a very real thing with power to influence people. Santa Claus is very much the same way; the children who believe in him cause him to be "real" in the same sense that God is. So I think that the belief in God is a valid comparison to the belief in Santa Claus (well, from an atheist's perspective anyway). Yes, the belief in God has much more powerful effects, but they are both real in the same way. Oh, and why would anyone need to be saved from a lifetime of debauchery?

I am an atheist, but I think that I still have the same need that religion serves to fill for some people. Personally, I think that everyone likely has a similar need, but that it manifests itself in different ways in different people. I think that the atheist scientist, who is looking to genetics for explanations, is simply filling this need in a different way than the devout Christian who is looking only to religion for that purpose.

And this brings us to the same old debate that never works to prove either side. Where did God come from? It had to have come from somewhere, right? Why are you able to believe that something as intelligent and magnificent as God (or whatever supernatural creator) is able to exist without having its own creator, but you're not able to believe that we are able to exist without a creator? I don't claim to have the answer to where we came from, and I'm not trying to encourage anyone to give up their faith... But using this logic to explain your faith is, well, not logical (IMO).

I haven't seen a 'flavored popcorn' store since the 80's! Those things are still around???

Oh, and speaking of clowns...
-
I used to have a recurring nightmare about a clown. (Great, now that you've reminded me of it, I'll probably start having it again. ) But I never thought that clowns in general were scary... Well maybe a little bit scary, but in a good way.

Well, I don't even know Turtlespeed, but the leash makes him sound submissive and controllable... so I'd probably pick him up. Or maybe I would just splash them all as I drove by.

Gin tastes like a liquified christmas tree... gross.

Same here. Mine is gin, but I never loved (or even liked) it to begin with.

I couldn't eat pizza for several years. I had just eaten some right before I got into a really bad car wreck... I only have a vague memory of being in horrible pain, half-conscious, and throwing up all the pizza I had just eaten (either in the ambulance or the emergency room - can't remember)... But for a long time, the smell of pizza made me gag. Not anymore though...

Working in a clean room for a hard drive manufacturer - on the 6PM-6AM shift (not a good idea for someone with chronic sleeping problems!). I found that twelve hour shifts of doing repetitive, mind-numbing work is pure misery. I was only able to do this for a short while before I started turning into a zombie and had to quit. That was many years ago... I had only taken that job because I was wanting to go back to school and they would pay for me to do so, but there was no way that I was going to be able to do well in school in that condition.

I didn't notice any difference at all yesterday - just a typical Monday.

Speaking of lollipops (and tequila ;)... Have you ever had one of those mescal lollipops with the worm inside? Mmm... Oh, and the only thing that should taste like bacon is, well, bacon.
