  1. Happy skybirthday ... Do you have anything gnarly planned for your 200th? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  2. Skydiving is not for everyone and I think it's obvious that this bloke was never meant to try the sport. It's ok for a whuffo to ask questions concerning safety (heck it's not like we're playing bridge or something like that), but to threaten you with a lawsuit is uncalled for. As adults we must take responsibility for our actions and if that includes taking the leap out of the airplane, then why should this be any different. If the dude is concerned about his safety, then he should stay on the ground and let the rest of us go about our business of, yes risking our lives while living them to the their fullest. Blue Skies ... Let's go do a skydive ... Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  3. If I make it to the boogie (I'm still holding onto a slim hope, but lately with work it doesn't look promising), sign me up for the freefly loads. I'm no freefly rock star, but I have improved since the Eloy holiday boogie. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  4. For my first 40+ jumps I was using my skiing helmet on my skydives. But I'm not sure I'd want to use one of my full face motorcycle helmets as they're considerably heavier. For most of the skydive I'm sure the heavier motorcycle helmet would be fine, but I'm not so sure about what sort of whiplash you might experience come deployment time. 5. Even if you're not currently a freeflier, when it comes time to buying a container, try to find one which is freefly friendly. Not only will this help you become a freeflier sooner (I'm not advocating this at your experience level), but it will also be a safer container to be using when you're doing barrel rolls and flips. Note: virtually all newer containers should be freefly friendly. Some are just better designs than others. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  6. Welcome to DZ.COM ... I wonder how many single moms, let alone single moms with twins we have amoungst us? But it's good to have you back jumping. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

    Sky B-day

Happy sky birthday!!! Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  8. Well said ... Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  9. I feel your fall rate pain (something that I'm sure the average weighted skydivers take for granted and don't really understand). Of course I'm coming at it from the other side of the spectrum being a fast faller as opposed to being a slow faller. I occasionally do a freefly jump with a small person such as yourself and often find myself falling on my back (to keep them in sight) while they're in a stand. But recently he's gotten a new jump suit and claims he can fall much faster (so there is hope). I also did a belly jump last Sunday with two light weights who were both lesser experienced sub-100 jump skydivers (because one of the guys, my friend from the same AFF course last year didn't have a freefly friendly rig) and I went low on the formation (no surprise there). And neither guy seemed to make an attempt to come down to me. So I spend the jump falling on my back (likely a faster fall rate than on my belly) only because I wanted to keep them in sight. Skydiving would be so much easier if we all fell at the same rate. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  10. true..... but ya know what would make him even cooler????... yes you guessed it, it would be for him to anounce the release of the eloy boogie video........... ..... I 2nd that motion. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  11. I'm not that much more experienced than you (so break out your salt shaker). Anyway, a while back I decided that I wanted to work at certain freefly goals (short term goal of flying safely with others and a long term goal of being able to emulate the FlyBoyz). But that doesn't mean that I wanted to ignore the other skills (RW and now tracking dives) as I still would like to be proficient enough in these disciplines to be invited on the odd fun jump load. But I'd be surprised if I'm ever interested in joining a 4-way RW team as to me freeflying is so much more fun. So with that in mind, 75% or more of my dives are freefly jumps with the rest going towards tracking dives, hop n' pops and the odd belly jump. Heck I get plenty of experience falling on my belly, as I do it every jump (usually only starting at about 4000 feet). Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  12. Congrats on your tandem and welcome to DZ.COM

  14. From a skydiving point of view, you're likely better off in southern CA. But I'm not sure how you'll do with the nasty traffic in that part of the world. I've heard that Austin is really nice but they've got traffic issues as well (my company and an Austin company just merged and I may get a chance to visit Austin in the not too distant future). I've heard that Houston sucks and that Dallas is not that bad and I don't know squat about San Antonio. Once again, based on your choices, my vote is southern CA, but what do I know? 15. If those were my only choices, I'd chose CA first (but you never mentioned where in CA or TX). Also, you didn't include crowded highways and earthquakes as CA cons and what about TX's humid weather or tornado possibilities. Of course I'm a little bias to CO, but the front range isn't the cheapest place to live (I do get to jump all 12 months of the year here). So given your choices, my vote is still with CA. 16. I got all of them right except for the one where it told you to leave and come back later. But when you got to go, you got to go. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  17. Cool ... thanks for the URL. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  18. I'm sorry for your lost friend Mary. Blue Skies John Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  19. Cool ... there's Scuba and bicycle shops really close to where I live. I'll check them out in a day or two. Thanks for the info Albatross and Jessica. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  20. In a couple of weeks, I hope to make my first (yup I'll bring beer) night jumps and I'd just like to know what sort of extra gear I need to bring. I believe chem-light is a must for my wrist mount altimeter, but what else? Also, where do I get a chem-light? Walmart or a hardware store? What section of the store can it be found in? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  21. What happened to you is a huge reason why some jumpers prefer to use reserve pillows rather than a handle. I'm still using a handle (I'm pretty much waiting for my first mal to see how I react), but if I'm around in the long run, I'm sure at some point I'll have converted to a pillow. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  22. Congrats on finishing your AFF. Now the fun, yet serious business starts. One thing I love about this sport is the constant new experiences we encounter and the learning never seems to stop. Good luck with your skydiving progression and let us know what you're up to every once in a while. And also remember that "it can and will happen to you (just as it can and will happen to me), so be prepared for it". Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  23. With the exception of one weekend in NM and the Eloy x-mas boogie, all I know is jumping in CO. Of course sometimes we have wind and turbulance issues to deal with (which lately have been grounding us), and there is the issue of hot landings due to the higher density altitude. But other than that, I do think CO is a great place to jump. Of course I'm not usually stuck in the salt mines on Saturdays. Any news on Derek's possible CA job? Bob was telling me that he also got a new job at Jeffco (so at least you have your Pokie on Monday through Saturdays). Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  24. Local move or are you leaving the state? And at least your dream exists and should be stronger and more compelling than many of the dreams our whuffo family, friends and colleagues have. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  25. What were you doing touching another girl's boobies and more importantly, how come I never got any of that? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
