I could think of worse problems to have (like being a workaholic who dies of a heart attack at the office). Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

20 minutes from home, 30 minutes from work. As far as racking up the jumps, I guess you could say that I'm addicted. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Yup, I got Lumberg'ed all weekend by the whuffo boss. My only saving grace is that the weather hasn't been all that good here until now (I could be jumping my ass off at the DZ, but instead am stuck here at work). I did manage to get one jump in yesterday after work. So my streak of jumping every weekend since late January is still very much alive. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

First off, you really should be having this discussion with the people who know your abilities best (your instructors and coaches). But since you're here: Many people will say that a 210 is right for you, and that a 170 would be too aggresive with your weight and only 20 jumps (assuming your profile is up to date). With that in mind a 190 might work out nice if you have reasonable canopy skills and your instructors feel you can handle this sort of canopy. But the canopy material should also have some sort of influence here as well. You really should not load an F-111 canopy more than 1:1 but you can often get away with a slightly higher wing with ZP fabric. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Welcome to DZ.COM. We may be a little dysfunctional, but we are a family. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Thanks for the update and yes I did see Quade's response as to who was on the dive. Hey what are you doing posting on DZ.COM right now? Shouldn't you be jumping? My excuse for being here right now is that I'm at work (obgviously not working as hard as I should be) and the WX is kind of unjumpable at the moment in my part of the world. "Not you jp, the idiot JP", or "Deuce's 3 days at Perris" (gory pictures)
CanuckInUSA replied to Deuce's topic in The Bonfire
Duece Sorry to hear about your accident and that picture of your purple ankle proves that it's not a trivial injury (sending get well vibes to JP). Obviuosly that fellow who swooped down below you to change the landing direction messed you up. But if you were already commited in landing a certain direction, one would think that it would have been better to continue landing in that direction and then take whatever flak that needed to be taken once safely on the ground? Something similar happened to me at Eloy over the holiday boogie and I was lucky enough to be able to do my flat turns and land safely. But after that I decided to wait up high for the higher performance guys to set the landing pattern. At my home DZ (a medium sized DZ) being a freeflier I am often one of the first down setting a pattern, but at a busy DZ, I know it's in my better interest to wait up high. PS: I'm not trying to second guess you. It just seems that this dude messed you up by alternating the landing direction and you in turn got messed up. I recognize a few of those jumps suits, but not all. So who was on this record breaking jump? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

So where is the best over all place to skydive? Many would say Florida and Arizona but those places either get too hot or get too much thundershower activity in the summer months. California has got to rank up there as well. I think where I am is a hidden gem (Colorado) as I'm able to skydive all 12 months of the year. But the landings are faster here due to our altitude (not a big deal when you're used to it). Of course if we're talking best skydiving places in the world, we must also include Australia and New Zealand. Of course I'm sure a few southern European locations are pretty choice as well. What is the best overall place to skydive all 12 months of the year? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

No problem-o ... I'm here to serve and assist ... when I can't jump. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Oh that's right, I'm there right now about to board Otter load #8 and I'm going to do a gnarly freefly jump with a few of the Flyboyz. Thanks for reminding me. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

SD Aggieland Plane Crash and Recovery (pictures)

I take it the picture with the dude (wearing his ball cap backwards) holding all of the booze is that of the pilot? LOL ... Good one ... Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
I'm not sure if this glossary is what you're looking for, but it should give you some much needed info nevertheless. http://www.skydiveaz.com/resources/gloss2.html Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

So when are we going to get a list of who was one this monumental record breaking jump? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I'm stuck at work all weekend (don't forget to remind me to thank my boss for the lovely weekend). But my savings grace is that the WX yesterday and today has been very overcast and few if any loads would/will have happened at my home DZ. But I'm still disappointed as it would have been fun to be in Perris Valley with the others this weekend. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I know the canopy nazis will flame me for this, but what the heck. People are all different and some can handle a smaller wing while others shouldn't (don't know where your friend is with his canopy skills). I do think that if he's never flown a 230 before, he should spend some time on one before jumping a 210. But a 210 Silhouette isn't exactly a killer canopy (yes I known anyone can be killed on any canopy). I'm probably only 5-7 pounds lighter than your friend and when I had 30 or so jumps, I thought I'd only be able to handle a 230 and the smallest I would fly is a 210 (ever). But in that time I have flown a 230, 220, 210, 190 and now a 170 (my current wing which I stand up virtually every jump in the faster thin air of CO). So as long as he demos/rents a 230 and can reliably stand those up, is cleared by instructors and/or canopy coaches who know his skill level, then he should be fine flying a 210. Now if your friend was talking about buying something small like an elliptical 120, that would be a different story. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

barrel rolls to check airspace before pulling
CanuckInUSA replied to andy2's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I would agree with Lisa concerning being comfortable doing your barrel rolls up high before you do them at pull time as I have a some what related story here. I dropped by the DZ after work yesterday to hopefully get a jump in (I never jumped because not enough people were around). Anyway, I ran into a friend of mine from the same AFF class last year and he just finished doing his first reserve ride on the 2nd jump with his new gear (he bought beer for the DZ people and booze for the rigger). Anyway, it sounded like he couldn't find his hacky handle twice and did the right thing (go for silver). But after further questioning I don't believe the problem was finding the handle, it was that he's not all that current (he's got 34 jumps mainly from last summer) and both times he said he had bad body positioning during pull time and he ended up doing some sort of accidental barrel roll (apparently eating up valuable time and altitude). He's not sure exactly what altitude he was at when he went for his reserve, but after showing him some video of other low pulls, it looks like he was at about 2000 feet (or maybe even a little less). So could you imagine how much more anxiety he could have caused himself if he did all of this plus a not so well executed barrel roll? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
Get pied yet? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

A good exercise is to practice your front riser carving turns up high and determine how much altitude is lost while doing 90, 180, 270 & 360 degree turns. Just remember to clear your airspace before you initiate these maneuvers. As far as swoop distance, I wouldn't worry about this sort of thing yet. I know I get a reasonable swoop considering my canopy, wing loading, location and current experience level. But my swoops are nothing compared to the more accomplished swoopers. My original source of info wasn't very good. Here's a more accurate account of today's action: 10 pars 1 birdie 5 bogies +4 for the day +5 for the tourney tied for 96th Not looking good for making the cut. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

From what I can tell, Annika has made three birdies, a bogie and two pars in her first six holes today. For those of us who are cheering for her, let's hope she keeps this up. You go girl!!! Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

It would be cool if I could be hypnotized into thinking I was at the DZ while I was at work. Actually our mornings should be very jumpable, but the thundershowers will be blowing in during the afternoons. As long as my home DZ (within a 30 minute drive of where I live and work) gets some loads up early in the mornings, I may be able to squeak one or two jumps in before heading off to the salt mines (late of course). And then as long as the weather is clear, I may be able to get one or two jumps in before the sunsets. At least that's the plan. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

And how many skydives have you tried that on? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

How many jumps before you purchased your own rig?
CanuckInUSA replied to Skylark's topic in Safety and Training
You forgot to include < 50 jumps in your poll. I first jumped mine on #42 (but am now on my 3rd main canopy in that time). Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
I got the memo, I guess I just forgot this time. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
