  1. Um yah ... the boss just called an impromptu meeting to tell the entire engineering team that we're all expected to work this weekend as well as on the Memorial Day holiday Monday and that it'll be great for the company. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  2. You make a good point here and rules like this do exist in other sports. Case in point, a few years ago I played hockey with this young guy who was attending college and was very good. When I asked him why he wasn't playing college hockey, he responded saying that he spent one year playing junior hockey up north (the rule being anyone who's played one or more games in the CHL is ineligible to play NCAA hockey). 3. Brittany ... I couldn't agree with your more. But obviously not everyone sees it the same way (hence this friendly neighborhood debate). Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  4. I know what your arguement is. But IMHO, there's nothing wrong with having a PGA (mainly played by men) and an LPGA (for women only). If a woman is good enough to play in the PGA, then why not let her. Are we (as men) so afraid of being beaten by a woman in a sporting event? Is that really why some people are rejecting the notion of Annika playing in this tournament. Once again, this is just my opinion, but we as a society need to move forward and let the best people no matter who they are compete at the elite levels of sport (and any other area in society). Annika kicks ass ... you go girl. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  5. This may seem a little far to you (and may also conflict with your Cross Keys plans), but the Lost Prairie boogie in Montana in late July is supposed to be one of the best partying boogies around. I'm also told that Couch Freaks in Iowa over the Labor Day weekend is kick ass. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  6. Why not make the PGA this series where the best compete? If Annika is not good enough for the PGA, then she's not good enough (and we'll know more after tomorrow). But I don't buy this discrimination crap. It's called the PGA, not the MPGA. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  7. Have yet to watch a single minute from both American Idol series (didn't even know it existed when the first series was aired) and I doubt very much I will ever watch it. Reality TV is for people with no reality in their lives. I'm far from perfect, but while much of America may have been watching this crap last night, I was out playing volleyball with friends. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  8. If she stays near par, she'll do well and show all the nay sayers that they were wrong. Good job Annika!!! Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  9. I hope she kicks ass. I think it's bullcrap what some of the male golfers have been saying that she shouldn't be allowed to play. If she's good enough to make the cut, then why shouldn't she be allowed to play with the boys. It's not like golf is a contact sport. You go girl!!! 10. Once again this is the groupie speaking, not the freefly rock star. When head down you want to: 1) Relax - because that's just the way to do it. 2) Watch the horizon - if you look at the ground you will be sliding backwards and if you look at the sky you will be sliding forwards. 3) Spread your legs out - you want to fly your legs not your hands. Start will the basic frogger position (legs spread side by side) and once you get better you can experiment with your daffy (one leg bent forward flying your knee and the other leg bent backward flying your calf) 4) Try to get your torso vertical - this is probably the hardest thing to correct without video and even then it's not so easy. Anyway ... once again jumping off of the soap box. You'll do fine. It's nothing that a few thousand jumps can't solve (and the same thing applies to me). Take care and have fun. I'm sure I'll be jumping this weekend, but for some reason I feel jealous. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  11. sunnydee Please take what I'm about to say with a grain of salt as I'm no freefly rock star (more like a freefly groupie). But be careful out there when head down. It's so much easier to slide around the sky when you're on your head and not even know it. I think it's ok for you and SanDiegoRW to exit the aircraft in a flower (head down), but neither one of you should be planning on doing too much time staying head down during your jumps. And when you do venture head down, align yourself perpendicular to the flight line. What you need to do (I'm still in the same boat, but getting better) is jump with skilled freefliers who can fly stable and then you can use them as a reference as to how much or how little you may be sliding. Anyway ... I'm jumping off of soap box now. Have fun jumping this weekend and I'm still sticking to my guns that you'll hit your 100th on either May 31st or June 1st. 12. How do you feel about having some pie? Don't forget to get video!!! Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  13. That was pretty cool: 1) not to hit the trees 2) not to hit the cars 3) and to kick the ball GOALLLLLLLLLL!!! Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  14. My company merged with another company and the combined company is in the process of being renamed as "Xaffire Inc" (pronounced Zaffire). So I got on my horse to pickup a new email alias. The funny thing is that I currently don't fly an Icarus canopy, but sometime in June I should be able to be reached through email as: icarus@xaffire.com Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  15. Denise Weather permitting, I predict that you'll be doing your 100th on May 31st or June 1st. Don't forget to get video!!! Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  16. Welcome to DZ.COM ... we can help you with your compulsive skydiving feelings ... jeepers ... who am I kidding ... I've got the bug too ... my first tandem was 10 months and 239 jumps ago. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  17. A 1000' snivel was a guess-t-mate. The video shows an altimeter reading 2100 just prior to the jumper intiating the pull of the main BOC pilot chute, a snivelling opening and then it shows the jumper pulling down the slider at 900'. How much of that is snivel and how much of that was time it takes to deploy the pilot chute and how much was the time waiting for the pilot chute to catch air, yada, yada, yada. Also, instead of posting a smart-alec remark. Maybe you should read the thread. First off the jumper was coming off of a head down freefly going close to 200 mph (or maybe even faster). I couldn't help but notice that you list formation skydiving as your preferred disciplines (not that there is anything wrong with that). But I'm guessing you have no idea how fast you go when freeflying. Finally, if you read the thread, you will notice that another CO jumper talked about density altitude and how it effects our freefall speeds. So when you add up the speed the jumper may have been going, the fact that the jumper was in a fairly high density altitude scenario (very thin air), are you surprised that it took so long for the canopy to open? Geez think about the conditions some people jump in before you start critizing. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  18. Happy birthday Kev ... don't forget to have a cold one (or whatever strikes your fancy). Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  19. I consider "Skydive the Rockies" to be my home away from home. When I really want to jump and the weather isn't looking all that good at my home DZ but good in Canon City, I jump in my car and head down for a fun day at SDTR and the staff (which Duey was a part of) has always been great to me. Duey is a class act, a talented skilled skydiver and I'm deeply sadden by his accident. I'm sorry to hear that he'll likely never walk nor skydive again, but right now that is secondary. Let's all pray that Duey recovers to be able to live many many many more happy years. Please send your get well vibes to Duey!!! Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  20. I sent you an email with the WFFC URL. I hope to see you there!!! Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  21. Hey Bob If I can make it down there (for at least one day) this coming weekend, I'll be there and please pass my get well wishes for Duey!!! Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  22. I have the "Art of vRW" and it's good to watch, but there is very little freefly instruction. Brian Germain's "Vertical Journey" does a better job on the instructional side of things if that's what you're looking for. Of course nothing can substitute actual jump experience. Freeflying is meant to be flown with others, and if people around you aren't freeflying, then it'll be hard to know what you're doing right and wrong. But get out there and try and nail your sit (first doing solos) before you ever think about going head down. If you do get to jump with others, keep the groups small at first (as in two-ways). We need to know where everyone is on the jump and unless you're on a jump with some skilled freefliers, people will be all over the place and that just makes things dicier. Have fun and best of luck. Chances are that you'll do 'X' number of jumps that you'll totally flail on, but sooner or later you'll get it and the reward is worth the effort. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  23. It's likely the density altitude (summer weather) and who knows maybe the winds were lower than the day you did your first jump. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  24. Sending get well vibes to the n2skdvn's cousin. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

    Head down

This is a loaded question which can not really be answered because some people are more natural at flying their bodies than others. Before you venture head down, you need to be sure that you can fly and transition into a stable sit. Then when you're ready to try head down, do some solos and fly perpendicular to the flight line as it's so much easier to slide all over the sky while head down and you don't want to fly into another group's airspace.
