Someone with a DZ.COM account tried to get me fired today
CanuckInUSA replied to CanuckInUSA's topic in The Bonfire
Dang I can't remember us having that conversation? Was I drunk? You are a classy lady worthy of someone's unconditonal love. But I don't remember us talking about marrying each other. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -

Some funny thoughts about riggers and booze after a reserve ride
CanuckInUSA replied to CanuckInUSA's topic in The Bonfire
Hey I'm in between software builds right now, so I thought I'd pop in here for a quick sec. I have some funny thoughts about riggers and booze after a reserve ride. I was in the liquor store this morning buying the rigger who saved my ass not long ago a bottle of his preferred poison (a bottle of Crown Royal and I love the fact that the box containing the bottle says "Special Reserve"). And then something dawned on me. What happens to those riggers who pack their own mains. Don't you think they can get themselves into a vicious cycle here? I mean if they happen to have two reserve rides close in time to each other, one would think that they can get themselves into an endless cycle. Let's just hope they were sober when they packed their reserve. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
Someone with a DZ.COM account tried to get me fired today
CanuckInUSA replied to CanuckInUSA's topic in The Bonfire
If you're looking for a name, you're NOT going to get it. But I have an extremely important message to relay to all of the DZ.COM users out there concerning what happened to me the other day when someone with a DZ.COM account tried to get me fired by sending a email to my employer saying that all I do at work all day long is surf the net (especially here on this site). If you are a novice computer user (and when I say novice, I mean someone who isn't formally trained in how to administer computer networks or how to develop network software like we do at the company I work for). Do NOT think that you can out smart a professional by hiding behind some sort of internet alias. You need to understand that most everything you do on the internet can be traced if the person investigating you knows what they are doing. I have my reasons for deciding NOT to publicly name this person (because there is the possibility that what they have told me is the truth). And do NOT PM me asking for a name or a clue as to who this person is, because I will NOT tell you. And besides, they are someone that most of you people don't know anyway. But before I end this, I would like to tell you a short story about something which happened to me a while back as I honestly do believe that it is relevant in this event. Back in the early to mid 90s (yes during my whuffo days), I thought I was this hot shot computer consultant. I was good, I won't bullshit you. But I was still young and inexperienced. Anyway some clients signed me up for what was going to be a high profile contract writing some very technical and complicated Seismic Log viewing application which Geologists in the Oil Patch would use instead of the old micro-fiche methods. This was to be a project which I would do in the evenings and on weekends while I continued to do my regular 9-5 programming job and it wasn't an hourly contract I was venturing into, it was a fixed contract. And initially the compensation looked pretty sweet. Well the project was extremely complicated and I ran into many many problems. Ultimately I did get the job done to the client's satisfaction, but it took four times the amount of time it was supposed to take. The client wasn't freaked out about the delay (shit they were paying a fixed price for the software), but I was frustrated because things just didn't go the way they were supposed to go. This was a hard job. So come payday, I basically was whining and complaining to the client about how hard this contract was and that I pretty much got screwed (and I had a very good relationship with the client) and ultimately his response was "I'm older than you and more experienced than you". And what could I say. He was right. People (especially the young cocky people out there), please know that us older farts (I'm 40) are more experienced than you. I doesn't mean that you have no skills, have no talent. It just means that were know more about certain things in life because we've lived through many of them already. You may be sitting back right now say stuff like, ya bullshit, what does he know. But believe me, when you get older you will understand where I'm coming from here. Treat your fellow humans with the same courtesy and respect that you want to be treated with in return. And please try not to judge people. That's all I've got to say. Now I really need to get some sleep as I haven't slept very much since someone tried to destroy my reputation, my career and my life. But I am happy to report that they failed and my current job is very much still secure. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -

I'm happy to report that my team is now alone in first place with a 7-0 record with one week left in this session's season. One more win and we move up to the Power Pool competition level. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Steve sneaks back into DZ.COM in between builds (hoping nobody at work sees him and hoping that there isn't any more assholes looking to report him) as while you can take DZ.COM away from Steve, you can't take Steve away from DZ.COM (oh oh ... that didn't sound right). I forget what the Pumphouse looks like (it is on the corner of Main and some street in Longmont and it's a few doors north of some pub which a few years ago served up a mean Margarita which could compete with one from the Rio), but it's been a few years since I've been there. Anyway they serve food and beer (but sorry to DaGimp, they don't serve women ... but Bellas is just up the street). Anyway, Monday 7:00 pm, be there or be square. And unless I sell my Avs tickets, or meet some hottie (fat chance) between now and Tuesday, I'm assuming that Remster and I will be attending the Avs/Flames game Tuesday night. Of course if Remster doesn't want to sit in some choice seats (22 rows from the ice) to watch one of the NHLs better teams (keeping in mind that this will be the last year that Steve is an Avs season ticket holder), I can always ask Mary, Derek or Kelly if they want to go to the game (not sure what Derek will think if Steve goes to the game with his girlfriend though). Believe it or not, I'm in a good mood right now. I have been working today (I solved numerous ... yes they were easy ... bugs), I have been joking with my work colleagues, my volleyball team will be gunning to continue our unbeaten streak tonight, tomorrow night Derek will show me my first reserve pack job (good thing Derek doesn't drink beer) and Derek will hook up everything else on my new container. And the weather looks jumpable this coming weekend (crossing my fingers of course). Of course how could I forget. No other assholes who I thought were friends have tried to get me fired today. Got to run ... I've got work to do ... bugs to fix ... dreams to dream ... Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I still lack the smoking-gun evidence I need to positively identify this individual and unless I obtain that evidence I will not name names. But the circumstantial evidence is building and I have a new prime suspect in mind. I knew this person was mischievous, but I always thought they were a friend. However they have crossed the line and there is no return. I have never done anything bad to this person, yet here they are trying to destroy my career and in essence, my life. But they failed. The next step is to try and trace the email message and the person in question sure better hope that they were thorough in hiding their email identify as many email messages can be traced. If I do obtain my much desired smoking gun evidence. Look out as the shit will hit the fan. You suck ... and you know who you are. In fact you were even logged in to DZ.COM this morning you piece of shit. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -

Sangiro you rock. I respect your decision not to share information as it shows every one else that you are a man of integrity towards your policies. It doesn't help me in terms of knowing who this person is, but I have my strong suspicions as the one I think who is the guilty party has talked to me in the past about my DZ.COM activities as well as the activities of every else on here. A note to the shit out there who tried to rat on me. Your ploy appears to have failed. I have a good rapport with my co-workers and nobody from management has said anything to me. Contrary to what you may think. I do work and I am good at what I do (shit I've been in the computer business for almost 20 years now). I just haven't been working as hard as I have in the past. But you may have actually done me a favor as maybe this will motivate me to work a little harder (not too hard mind you as I am not a a slave to corporate america). I will log out now (as I do have a deadline to make and bugs to fix) and will check back in later. To all of my friends out there, thanks for the support. We may not always agree and sometimes we may act like geeks, but the people on dropzone.com rock. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
Someone with a DZ.COM account tried to get me fired today

They didn't use a sniffer. They just made up some account name that made it look like one of those official services that alerts employers to suspicious employee internet surfing activities. But it's obvious that this person was targeting me (once again I have a strong hunch as to who they are). Otherwise, my employer wouldn't have been the only one getting emails. If my sources come through, this person will be exposed and they won't just be exposed here on DZ.COM. In fact I WILL seek legal council if my evidence pans out. Someone with a DZ.COM account tried to get me fired today. This individual opened up a Yahoo email account with what looked like an official employee sniffer filtering account name and then proceeded to email my employer stating that I spend all of my time here on DROPZONE.COM and started to blurt out statistics along the lines that I post 30+ times a day. I do not deny that I spend more time on DROPZONE.COM than I really should, but this person has no idea as to what I do and if I have any value to my employer. I know this individual is still out there, In fact I have an extremely strong suspicions as to who they are. They are a lot closer to me than one would imagine (and there is no need for most of you to worry as I believe this person is not a DROPZONE.COM regular). I sure hope this individual reads this as not only am I working on coming up with the evidence I need to expose them, but I also have a few things to say to this person 1) You are the lowest form of life, unworthy of anyone's respect. You are selfish, childish and have some serious mental issues which really should be addressed. In a way I am sorry that you feel the need to try and ruin someone's life, but I have news for you. You did not succeed. I shit on you and hopefully once I come up with the evidence, you will be exposed as the fraud that you are and it'll be hard for you to gain most people's trust and respect. Don't forget that we are a small community here in the skydiving world. I may not always be an angel, but at least I don't go around trying to get people fired. 2) You have no idea as to my relationship with my employer and have no idea as to what sort of work and value I may provide this employer. My employer may choose to let me go one day, but it won't be because of some shit that you tried to initiate. 3) I guess it never occurred to you to think that while my career does have some importance to me, it doesn't define who I am and I have already been working on plans for what I will do next once it's time to move on from this job. My career is a necessary evil, but it doesn't define who I am. 4) Oh and the next time you try getting me fired, try sending the email to my boss instead of sending it to one of the marketing people. You're such an idiot as the website tells you who's who at the company. It's not like I work at some large corporation. I work at a small company you nimrod. I shit on you ... and once I have the evidence I am working on obtaining, you will regret what you did. Skydivers do NOT do this sort of crap to other skydivers. You suck and your life will not be the same, at least not amongst the skydiving community. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
This may not make sense right now, but the key to skydiving is to relax. You're going to hear this time and time again, and it may take a while to sink in. But things go so much smoother when you are relaxed. Good luck ... Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Yes I have recently been spending a lot of $$$ on gear (I mailed off my wingsuit order this morning). But it's not just a financial issue. Taking time off of work is also an issue. The people I work with are virtually all career oriented people and if I'm seen taking too much time off of work to pursue my jumping addictions while they work on weekends, then guess who will be out of a job (not the end of the world, but not something I want to happen right now what with all of my gear expenditures). Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
You must have a case of the "Paris Hilton" envy? How much money does one need to feel rich? How intelligent does one need to feel smart? Having some money to play with is nice, but when push comes to shove, I just want to be happy. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

You slam me because you say I am instructing here but I am not an instructor (and you are right I am not an instructor). But then you slam me saying that I won't help people but turn around and tell me that I should jump with people and help them. Maybe some of what I say shows signs of hyprocracy, but guess what you're doing the same. I have done enough jumps where some prospective freeflier says that they can hold a stable sit, yet when we get up there in the air, they cork all over the place and I spend my entire skydive falling on my back. Hey unlike some people, I have to pay for my jumps and these jumps are just a waste of time and money. Is this a good attitude? Of course not, but it's my time and my money I see being wasted. Am I not allowed to have some sort of opinion on how to spend my time and my money? Newbies need people to jump with and I am happy to mix good jumps with newbie jumps, but not all jumps are created equal and I have reached the stage of my jumping career where I'd like to make the most of my jumps. Is it wrong to feel that way? After all I am nothing more than a fun jumper at my DZ, where fun jumpers are pretty much at the bottom of the food chain. Anyway, in case you skimmed over much of the early posts in this thread, I think you may be confusing me a little here. Why I personally have little interest in doing RW jumps right now, I do believe that new skydivers need to spend time on their bellies. Learning to fly relative to others even on your belly is not easy and learning to freefly is not easy. And when a newbie tries to mix the two together at the same time, often they struggle for longer than they should. I know in my early days, I struggled and I only over came it by doing a lot of jumps in a short time period. But in Kelly's case when she's faced with doing a solo belly, what's the harm in her wanting to try and get some what proficient in her sit? After all, most of us do NOT have access to World Champions at our home DZs who are willing to teach us RW skills. We're on different sides of the fence. But believe it or not, I'm not here to argue. Hey Kalyne Do you know what Martin may want to do with the video footage that Dave and I took on that jump? The footage no longer exists on my tape as I didn't like the footage from the jumps before Martin's 100th and over-wrote it with new footage from Sunday's jumps. But fret not, as I did capture both Dave and my views to my computer in the form of an AVI file before I went to the DZ on Sunday. The AVI file(s) will be too big to email Martin and I fear that a lot will be lost if I convert the filed into WMV files. Maybe you can give me a tape (MiniDV or VHS) and then I can copy the two views onto the tape? I know that I was lucky enough to get video footage of my 100th jump and seeing as this jump went reasonably well (with the exception of Brian cutting right in front of me because he was likely jealous that he wasn't getting any video time ), that Martin would likely want a copy of Dave's and my views. Of course the boy should have plenty of video of himself already besides this jump. But you only do your 100th once right? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
No problem-o ... I was confident that you knew to ball up. I just wanted any prospective new freefliers to know that when jumping with others, it's very very very bad to go to your belly when you get unstable. If they still have that instinct, then they need to continue doing solo jumps until they break that bad habit. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

They're just jealous ... Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

There is a reason why AFF instructors have their students do flips during their initial training and it has nothing to do with determining if the student is acrobatic. It has everything to do with building confidence in the student that they know how to recover when they get unstable. But once the prospective new freeflier knows how to recover when things go really bad (like at pull time), the last thing we want new freefliers to do is to go to their bellies if and when they get unstable. Can you say cork? I knew you could (said in my best Mr Rogers voice). Now if anyone is unsure of their ability to get stable at anytime during the skydive (especially pull time), then freeflying is NOT something we want them doing. But once they have built that confidence, then it's time to teach people to ball up when they start to cork. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

The biggest issue I have with some of the Metrosexual TV shows is that they promote vanity. But we as skydivers (at least the males in the sport) aren't really the sort of people to care about that sort of thing. At least I'm not. I don't want to be a slob, but I couldn't care less if some golfing dweeb doesn't like me because I'm not wearing designer clothing. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

You mean to say that she can't learn how to get into a sit and not cork? Of course solo skydives are not the best place to learn, but what is she learning when she loses all of her interest in the sport because she has nobody to jump with and can only do solo belly jumps? I guess you choose not to listen to her. There are no belly jumpers hanging around her DZ right now. But maybe she can enlighten us as to what her issues may be concerning getting her "A" signed off? Obviously until that "A" is signed off, she is stuck doing solos and only jumping on loads with coaches and/or instructors. Oops too late, she already told us. No I am not an instructor and I'm not sure if I ever will be one (in case you have never figured this out, not everyone is interested in teaching students). I'm not afraid of people learning how to skydive. But not all DZs are created equally when it comes to training. At my DZ there is often little to no opportunity for new skydivers to get what you would refer to as proper training. The only thing that seems to matter is pumping out the tandems and maybe converting a few of those into students as that's even more revenue. But once the new skydiver is licensed, they are on their own. DZs are clicky. It sucks, but that's the reality. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
-
I do agree that she needs to get her "A" proficiency card signed off as it's preventing her from venturing away from her safety nest (her home DZ). And I'm not sure what this hasn't happened yet. Is that because there is a lack of coaches at her DZ or is there a fundamental flaw with her skydiving? I don't know? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
