Could you explain what was refreshing? (I am another no-audible-yet jumper.) The fact that I was in control of my situation. We all develop these internal clocks, but internal clocks don't always work (jumping from different altitudes can mess with your clock, doing different types of jumps like freeflying-RW-birdman can mess with your clock, jumping in different density altitude situations can also mess with your internal clock). So the fact that I was watching the horizon and knew that this looked like the break off altitude and low and behold, I was right. Don't get me wrong, I still jump with my audible, but I was happy to experience jumping without it as well. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

During the Eloy Holiday Boogie, I experience a problem with the chin cup on my camera helmet and was forced to do about six jumps without a helmet and my audible and believe it or not, it was a refereshing experience to jump without it. Audibles are great tools, especially when freeflying. But don't become dependent on them as they can fail. And do do a jump every once in a while without your audible just to prove to yourself that you are in control. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Okay fine. Maybe I'm mistaken. You know it's good the learn a new thing every day. But I still think it's a bad idea to let the public start to carry weapons on an airplane. Who's to say that someone with a concealed weapons permit wouldn't have their own agenda? I still have the mindset that nobody is going to get shot if no weapons are around (as opposed to thinking that nobody is going to get shot if everyone is packing). But I'm obviously in the minority in this country. In fact I'm still waiting for some DZ.COMer to cap my ass because they know I'm not packing. By the way ... for those people looking to argue, I'm not going to let myself get caught up in yet another Talkback gun debate. If you you want to carry a weapon, that's fine. It's your right in this country. Please respect my right for thinking that I don't need to arm myself to get through life. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I guess that depends on if you're a hot chick or not. A hot chick from Eagle CO? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Ankie does have a DZ.COM account you know. Plus it's not uncommon for some of the other manufacturers to be seen here (like Bill Booth). One of the things I love about this sport is that you could be talking to a world class skydiver and chances are that they will be totally cool towards you. Heck they may even be serving you drinks at the bar (in reference to a certain world class female skydiver based out of a certain world class DZ in AZ who by the way also has a DZ.COM account and is occasionally seen posting here, though not that often). Now how many NBA basketball players would even give you the time of day? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I am old enough and wise enough to know that I am not invincible and could very be killed while jumping. But I see BASE jumping at a place like Moab (or certain cliffs in Europe) as a total extension of the rock climbing and mountaineering I have done in the past. In fact I tried (unsuccessfully) to explain this to one of my former climbing mates (I don't seem to climb much any more since I took up skydiving). He still thinks that jumping is dangerous (which it is), but I tried to tell him about all those sketchy exposed Class IV-V routes we were on without ropes. But he just didn't see it that way. For sure the Perrine is a great place to learn to BASE and to train. But it's only one aspect of the sport and to be a truly rounded jumper, one would need to jump as many objects as possible (keeping safety in mind). But you wouldn't want to see me on top of a cliff, building or antena before I spent sometime on the slightly more safer confines of a bridge now would you. PS: It was cool meeting you at the Holiday Boogie. When we met, I wasn't ready to BASE, but times have changed. I think I'll be doing my FJC in late May. Dang what are you talking about? The last time I witnessed it, Greg was a pretty bad ass freeflier. It would only be a long weekend thing-a-ma-bob for this camper. But I'd be there if enough people were going to be there. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Good God ... that is one of the most ridiculous ideas I have ever heard of. I guess it never dawned on you what would happen if a bound breech a pressurized cabin? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Song: Pepper Band: Butthole Surfers Verse #1: Marky got with Sharon Sharon got Cherice She was sharin' Sharon's outlook on the topic of the seas Mikey had a facial scar Bobby was a racist They were all in love with dyin' They were doin' it in Texas Tommy played piano like a kid out in the rain Then he lost his leg in Dallas He was dancin' with a train They were all in love with dyin' They were drinking from a fountain That was pourin' like an avalanche comin' down the mountain. CHORUS: I don't mind the sun sometimes The images it shows I can taste you on my lips and Smell you in my clothes Cinnamin and sugary And softly spoken lies You never know just how you look Through other people's eyes. Hopefully you recognize that Bertuzzi was out to hurt Moore. Yes I'm sure he didn't intend to have Moore's neck broken, but the fact remains that he intentionally went after another player with nothing else on his mind but to hurt him. I wouldn't kick him out of the league. But he shouldn't see any more action this year (including the playoffs). Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Actually I am kind of in a shitty mood right now. 1) Work sucks. 2) I have a deadline tomorrow. 3) QA is telling me something doesn't work (when it does because they don't know how it's supposed to work). 4) My deadline isn't being helped by the QA crap. 5) People at work seem to think the only important thing in life is work. 6) I'm tired from working late last night and not sleeping very well. 7) I'm injured (neck is sore from some asshole who cross-checked me from behind two weeks ago in a hockey game). 8) Did I mention thay work sucks? 9) The weather is nice today, but is going to be shitty this weekend. 10) I will probably have to work late again and not get a good night's rest. Plus, there's some other stuff. But I won't bore you. So all in all, yes I'm in a shitty mood today. But I better watch out as you're likely to serve me up a platter of cheese to go along with my whine. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

A raise? What's that? I haven't seen one of those in years. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Hey I said it was a deliberate intent to injure. I still think the Brown/Sandstrom incident was nastier, but that's not factoring the injuries. It's just factoring the force used to injure. Bertuzzi needs to be suspended for the remainder of the season (including playoffs). But I'd be willing to bet that all he gets is his wrist slaped. In fact Bill Clement (an ESPN analyst) thinks that he should only get 20 games and I'm prediction that the NHL gives him even less (meaning Bertuzzi can play in the playoffs). What bullshit I say. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Yes the broken neck and possible paralysis makes this case particularily nasty and I in no way am defending Bertuzzi. But I'm sure Bertuzzi wasn't intending on breaking Moore's neck. But yes it was a deliberate intent to injure. In the Dave Brown cross-check to the face incident with Thomas Sandstrom, Brown viciously used the lumber right to Sandstrom's face and it too resulted in some nasty injuries (Sandstrom was ugly to begin with, but now he's a Frankenstein double in "B" rate movies). And I can still see it in my head (I remember watching that game on TSN back in '87). Nasty that's all I can say. Nasty on both events. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I was kind of expecting them to get a room just to prove that skybabes can hookup with a bloke (a general term for all guys). Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

When I say pay my dues, I don't mean just on the FJC. I'm talking about repeat trips to the Perrine (I'm thinking of taking a week off of work this summer and go there instead of doing a summer boogie). Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

For you it makes sense to take your FJC with BR because you likely want to build a relationship with them for future training and trips. I have decided to go with Vertigo for this reason. Once I've paid my dues at the Perrine, I can see myself spending a fair amount of time in Moab (where Vertigo is located). Now I only wish I knew about Johnny Utah first. Ah it's all good. I'm confident that Jimmy or Marta will give me the appropriate training that I'll need. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Dang two DZ.COM broken ankles within a week? Be careful out there folks. {{{ GET WELL VIBES FOR ELFANIE }}} Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

It was a nasty, dirty hit which may end Moore's career. Bertuzzi needs to be suspended for the remainder of this season (including the playoffs). But I fear that the NHL doesn't have balls and Bertuzzi will likely just get a slap on the wrist. But as bad as this hit was, it doesn't come even as close as the cross-check to the face Dave Brown delivered on Thomas Sandstrom back in '87 (give or take a year here). I too am single and while I still do hold out some hope (albeit very slim), I have come to grips with my situation. You know there are pros and cons to being single and being attached. But I'd much rather be single than be in a bad relationship/marriage and being a skydiver sure doesn't help dating whuffos (been there, done that). But I will NOT stop jumping so that I can spend my weekends at the mall with some whuffo. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

This is fine and dandy is everything goes as it's supposed to. But what happens if the solo belly high puller has a malfunction and cuts away. If the solo has drifted, there's the potential that they could fall right in on top of these opened FF canopies. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Do you walk across a taxi-way after you land?

Yes this will be nice. But it's still a couple of years out. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
During hockey season I tend to be perpetually injured (currently recovering from a sore neck after being cross checked from behind 1 1/2 weeks ago). But other than that, I'm doing very well for an old fart who's been playing hockey at a fairly high calibre for the last 35 years, plays volleyball, skiis, mountain bikes and let's not forget, jumps a lot. Ron often goes beyond what needs to be said (and believe me I have bashed horns with him in the past). But please be aware of one thing here. He does speak from experience. He speaks from an experience level that for sure you don't have and also from an experience level that someone like myself doesn't even have. So don't forget the title of this thread. "Keeping one's mouth shut" and it's often best to just walk away ... You may not agree with me, but you still have a lot to learn (as do I) about this sport and until we've been around for years, we must respect what the more experienced people tell us. Just my two cents of course ... Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
