Hey Lew I feel the judging in this event was just out to lunch today. I'm not sure if the Italian or Aleksei had the better routine (they were both awesome), but for sure it was better than Hamm's routine. Paul Hamm did do well and I thought he had the 3rd best performance. But Aleksei was robbed tonight as his routine (while not perfect with the landing) was inspirational to say the least. It should have been: Gold: Aleksei Silver: The Italian Bronze: Hamm But hey you know what event I've enjoyed the most? Womens beach volleyball (of course it doesn't hurt that I too am a beach volleyball player). The men are faster and more powerful than the women. But the women's matches are better as the rallies are longer and it's just more fun to watch. Of course maybe I'm bias as well as maybe I just like watching athletic women roll around in the sand. I briefly talked to someone at work this morning about the girl in South African who had a double mal and survived and this guy was the one who some how found out about this incident and approached me concerning it (god forbid that I was going to tell him about the guy in Lodi, the girl in Perris Valley or the BASE jumper in Switzerland). Anyway, the dude was flabergasted when this girl in South Africa said that she would jump again. I guess he figured that one brush with death would be enough to send us all to the golf course or bowling alleys. But my reaction to him was that hell ya, get back on the horse. You see we've been there and experienced the joys of being in the skies. Well I can't talk for anyone but myself, but I know why I jump from airplanes and why I jump from fixed objects. Are there dangers involved? Hell ya. Can myself or my friends get seriously hurt or killed? Yup, been there done that. So why do we do it? Once again I can't speak for anyone but myself, but I do it because I just like being up there in the skies. The rewards outweigh the risks. But I have noticed that these incidents do go in spurts. This was a bad weekend. But not all weekends are bad and let's also not forget that this year was the first time during the WFFC that nobody died. It all averages out at the end of the year. It just really sucks when it happens to someone we like and worse someone we care about. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I'm sorry Ivan (or can I just call you Crazy). I don't buy it. This perfect God is often said to have created things exactly as intended and that we need to just accept things as the way they were supposed to be. But what about when a person is created with certain ... I don't want to get too specific here ... so let's just say created a certain way by this perfect God. But inside this person feels different. Something is wrong. Some mistake was made maybe? But not according to the people who believe in this perfect God as he made them just the way they were supposed to be made despite the fact that this person knows something is wrong. Of course the hard core religous nut cases out there will say that if someone feels different about something about themselves, then it's actually the Devil who's manipulating their thoughts. LOL ... those nut cases and their obsession with the Devil can be hard to take at times. Fortunately they are in the minority when it comes to the religous types. So what do figure skating and gymnastics have in common? They're both judged by morons and the athletes are left to suffer. I just caught the men's high bar event finals and the judges totally fucked up. With my untrained eye, it's hard to say for sure who was better, the Italian or the Russian. But the judges totally fucked up the Russian's score causing the crowd to go bizerk. Paul Hann had to perform while the crowd was going nuts and to his credit he did well. But in my opinion he wasn't better than the Russian yet he got the silver (my untrained eye told me that Hann was 3rd best). At least the judges gave the Italian the gold, but I still think the Russian's performance was the best except that his landing wasn't as good as the Italian's or Paul Hann's (with the exception of the other Hann bro, none of the competitors had 100% clean landings). You are centrally located as far as Moab and Twin Falls is that's for sure. Plus I was treated well on my brief visit to Skydive Odgen last month. Utah is a very pretty state. It's just those damn Mormons and their ways that gets me. Then again, if it wasn't for the Mormons, Utah would likely just be as commercial as Colorado is huh? There was tons of whuffo spectators watching me and these young 13ish year olds were all disappointed when I told them that I wasn't experienced enough to be doing aerials (like some of my friends do). So I guess a whuffo might have called for help if I had crashed hard. But as far as getting there early. I arrived at the bridge at 4:00 am and proceeded to sleep in my car until 7:00 am. But Tom (once again, not the Tom the moderator, a different Tom) didn't know I was a jumper until I approached him once I woke up and he was only planning on doing three jumps (two while I slept) before he was to leave. We did a jump together, he left. Then I did a few more jumps and then I left. And hour east from TFs I started having some regrets about leaving, but I was unpacked and I kept driving. Hey Bryan what got me was the faster than what I'm used to in the BASE environment landings due to zero winds and a high density altitude (it was hot on Saturday). If I had people there with me, I would have continued to jump. But being alone, with no boat just kind of spooked me if I was going to mess up. But hey as I mentioned to Tom Aiello in a PM, it's better to learn about these fast landings in the BASE environment while I'm at the slightly safer confines of the Perrine Bridge instead of a less forgiving place like let's say Moab, right? Without a doubt as long as I'm breathing and can carry on a conversation without drooling, I will be there (it's my new x-mas holidays ritual 2 years and counting and the fam-dam-ily has already come to grips that Steve will be in AZ over the holidays). But before I think of the most bodacous Eloy Holiday boogie, I'm thinking about: 1) Labor Day long weekend at the Perrine Bridge. 2) Canopy Control session with Jim Slaton in Perris Valley. 3) The Skydive Moab Boogie where we jump into Mineral Bottom. 4) The Royal Gorge BASE jumping festival (likely just a spectator). 5) The Turkey Boogie in Moab. 6) A possible 2nd Annual Bytch Boogie in Sebastian. 7) All the weekends in between where I will skydive and BASE jump. But eventually it will be time to venture to Eloy and have the time of our lives. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Dang ... as much as we love to jump, mistakes in this sport can be so unforgiving. I hope a miracle is in the works and that Adria can recover. She's too young and looks to be too bright of a star in the skies to be snuffed out just yet. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Give it time. You'll be back in the air before you know it. And know this, you are not alone. There are numerous grounded skydivers at the moment. In fact I've missed skydiving these last four weekends as I wait for an injured foot to heal (I should be back jumping next weekend). I did however do three BASE jumps this last Saturday. Include more coverage of the womens beach volleyball tournament. Well actually they did include plenty of coverage here, it's just that I can't get enough of a good thing. I just finished watching May/Walsh beat McPeak/Youngs in the semis and I saw May/Walsh beat a Canadian team last night. The Canadians actually were closer to beating May/Walsh than McPeak/Youngs were. But who knows? Maybe May/Walsh were off last night (despite winning) and were on today. Either way, I have a new favorite Olympics sport to watch. Womens beach volleyball!!! The men are faster and more powerful, but the women tend to rally longer. Just as in tennis, I find watching womens tennis better then men despite the fact that the men are stronger and faster. The rallies are just better in the womens game and thus the matches are more fun to watch. Or maybe I just like watching athletic women roll around in the sand. It's a very similar situation as what happened in pairs figure skating during the last Winter Olympics. If the people running the show are concerned about this, then they need to give a 2nd gold medal to the Korean. Otherwise, what happened happened. You can't blame the American for wanting to keep his medal. It would show a lot of character if he was to surrender it under his own free will. But you can't ask the guy to do this. He's got to be the one doing it. It is funny though that the gold medalist did fall flat on his ass during one of his events, yet he still won the gold? I didn't see the entire event, but I guess all the other competitors has issues as well if the gold medalist can fall flat on his ass yet still win. So I was at the Perrine in Twin Falls on Saturday and was expecting to see two groups of people. Some friends who live in the area as well as another fellow I know who was supposed to be there with the Vertigo people doing his FJC. Well neither group of people were there and with the exception of one jump I made with an older guy Tom if my memory is correct (not the moderator). But this older fellow left after our jump together (he actually made two jumps before I started jumping) and there I was the only person jumping at this site. The local friends were off in CA jumping at it was my fault for not getting in touch with them before hand (my decision to travel to ID was kind of a last minute thing Friday night). Anyway, conditions were kind of weird on Saturday. The temperature was hot (95?) and there was no wind in the LZ. So my landings were faster than I'm used to. And I found myself questioning my sanity for doing solo BASE jumps with my limited experience, even if they were made in a safer BASE environment than most other jumps and even if they were in day light. Plus DON the boat guy wasn't there as well. So I made some jumps (three in total) and decided that I was done for the day and got back in my car for the long drive home. I don't feel bad for leaving as I did survive the weekend. But part of me thinks that I should have stayed and jumped more as my jumps per time+money costs average wasn't very good. Of course climbing the hill in hot weather didn't help with my physical and mental mindset at the time. So how many of you jump alone and if so are you not worried about the consequences of something going wrong? Plus has anyone jumped alone and gotten hurt? She is one bizarre lady. Agree with this policy or disagree with it, it really doesn't matter at the end of the day. The Feds in Canada long ago decided that a certain percentage of all media (books, TV, movies, music, etc, etc, etc) all had to be Canadian. I guess this huge media empire south of the border freaked out a few people north of the border and this just sounds like some bureaucrat with nothing better to do with their time screening these videos. Hey they did let South Park in, so all was not lost. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I can't tell you how many times I heard "the Devil this and the Devil that" when I was living in Colorado Springs (head quarters for all the religous nut cases out there). And the message those people kept telling me was "just accept Jesus and all will be forgiven". Colorado Springs is a very pretty place to live, but the it is a festering hot spot for nut cases. Of course I went from the hard core right wing religous nut cases of Colorado Springs to the granola eating, tree hunging, Audi driving, zero percept body fat, left wing yuppie nut cases of Boulder CO. Can't I find a normal place to live? Maybe it's just me. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -

I "think" we're on the same page here when it comes to who's at fault when someone does something bad. The person being bad or the Devil (I'm assuming you're saying it's the person who does the bad things which is responsible right?). Of course I'm sure there are many other things concerning this topic that we'd disagree on. For the record I am agnostic, but a few years back while I was hanging with a very religious Christian, questions were asked. And unless I'm mistaken, the fundamental message towards being Christian is accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. It does matter if you're a model citizen or a child molesting ax murderer. If you've accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior, you're in. You'll be accepted into heaven (at least this is what the nut cases in Colorado Springs kept telling me). But because I'm agnostic (not knowing if there is or isn't a God), it looks like I've booked a one way tickets into hell according to many bible thumbing Christians regardless of whether or not I've been good or bad. And herein lies one of my fundamental issues I have with Christianity (I have others, but there's no point listing them here). It doesn't matter what you do on this planet just as long as you've accepted Jesus as you're Lord and Savior, you're sitting pretty. The hard core religious types are just a bunch of misdirected nut cases I tell you (and with that statement I'm sure a few nut cases out there will decide to flame me). But don't forget that I have my reasons why NOT to buy into your religion. So you can flame away to your delight. I don't care ... Wow I actually can agree on something with the Anvil (I am disgusted). This election is rediculous as it's nothing more than a smear campaign on both sides and who did what and who didn't do what many many moons ago. Who cares about what happened 30 years ago, I care about what will happen in the coming years. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Dang guys ... this is the internet and the "Speakers Corner" no less. Why get all worked up about whether you feel some moderator is being fair or not. For god sakes (this may not apply to you Ron as it's directed to others as well), go jump more and post less. You feel better. Remember arguing on the internet is like competing in the Special Olympics. Even if you do win, you're still retarded. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
MonkeyLip told me the story of how he got named. It was pretty amusing. John and Chuck are driving down the road in silence one day and out of the blue Chuck says "From now on you will be known as ... MonkeyLip". LOL ... I have no Monkey name. Heck I'm not even a Monkey. I guess I didn't party hard enough the times I have been at events with SM1. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I should look into seeing if someone can embroider a red maple leaf onto the front of my wingsuit. Then I'd fit in well with my fellow Canuckleheads as my GTi has red wings with a white body. I certainly would not expect the US forces sit back and take an attack without fighting back. What is scary is the fact that yes many in the Muslim world do not value life on this planet the same way that most of us do, and this could be the beginning of WWIII. A war between western cultures (mainly the USA) and the Muslim world. As to who started it is debatable though. Some would say that Iran would be responsible if this pre-emptive attack does take place and some would argue that the US has already started this war on the Muslim world what with their invasion of a soveign Muslim country. Either way, if it does happen, it's not going to be good for anyone. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
