The USA is the defending World Cup champion (back in 1996). But Canada did win the last time a tournament like this meant anything (the 2002 Winter Olympics). Of course any one of the teams (with the exception of Germany) can win this. It usually all boils down to who has the hot goalie. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

The hockey World Cup starts today. Canada, the USA, Russia and Slovakia will be playing their preliminary games in North America while Sweden, Finland, the Czech Republic and Germany playing their games in Europe (the finals will be played in Toronto). So who's going to win? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Dude you didn't miss anything. It's the same old message. War and terrorism. That's all GWB wants the public to think about anyway. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I'm mailing it in the US Postal System right now. Hmmm ... 1) Freefly and tracking dives with TJ 2) Swooping the cliffs 3) Wingsuit dives up the canyons 4) Cross-country jumps 5) BASE jumping off of the cliffs This is shaping up to be one hell of a good time people. Send your registrations in as well. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

There's several motorcycle threads going around now here on DZ.COM. There are two types of motorcyclists. Those who have crashed and those who have YET to crash. Some guy in another thread tried to tell me that he was one of those who is better than all of this and thus will go through his entire life without crashing and this just reminds me of all those superior (new) canopy pilots out there who can handle quick downsizing because they are better than every one else. Hey if you ride a motorcycle, sooner or later something bad is going to happen. It may not be life ending bad, but rest assured something will happen. Ever see a watermelon hit the ground and split in two? That's your head. If you (not necessarily directed at wildblue) are okay with this risk, then go for it. I know on the motorcycle crash I was involved in (as well as a moutainbiking crash) I went down so fast that I couldn't control it and I hit my head on the ground and took a nice chunk out of my helmet. Without the helmet I would have either died or been severly brain injured. But because of it, all I suffered was an elbow injury and some other bruises. I do not believe helmet laws should be mandatory. But wearing a helmet is the smart thing to do. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

In my neck of the woods, our best jumping weather is in September, October and November. So yes to me this is the best time to jump (in my neck of the woods). But if I was in Eloy, well October through March is pretty darn nice as well. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

They aren't the only option out there (in fact Johnny Utah offers a more intensive course for less money). But you won't go wrong with Vertigo (I was trained by Jimmy and Marta and am happy with what they told me). Of course just because you take a FJC, doesn't mean your learning doesn't stop. But then this is no different than anything else right? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Been there, done that. Plus I've hucked myself off of that most bodacious span 31 times already and will be back there again this coming Labor Day long weekend. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Personally I feel that if you are riding a motorcycle in traffic, then it is more dangerous than skydiving. But some motorcyclists have been formally trained (MSF style of safety course) and have an idea as to how to protect themselves out there. And some haven't been trained and have no idea as to what counter-steering is. Dang ... I need to take up lawn bowling or something, as I like to: 1) BASE jump 2) Ride my motorcycle 3) Skydive (Swoop) 4) Skydive (Freefly) 5) Climb mountains 6) Ride mountain bikes 7) Ski Black and Double Black Diamond runs. You'd think I could find some safer hobbies. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Risk Tolerance - What is stupid? (motorcycles)
CanuckInUSA replied to PhillyKev's topic in Speakers Corner
There are two types of motorcylists in this world. Those who have crashed and those who have yet to crash. I fall into the crashed category. And because of this (I was lucky enough to survive without permanent injuries) I always wear a full face helmet and most of the times you will see me wearing leather jacket, back protector (mandatory for racers) and protective pants. If someone wants to ride their bike not wearing a helmet and wearing a t-shirt and shorts. Then power to them. I just hope they don't crash, because if they do, it's not going to be pretty. One can argue that proper protective attire should be mandatory since hospitalization/rehab costs can be extremely high. But riding a motorcycle isn't the only dangerous game in town and where does the government legislation stop? To address your open versus full face helmet question. If you have a visor shield on your bike, then you are some what protected from flying debris (a bug can do just as much damage as a rock when travelling 30+ mph). So your only real danger there is what happens to your face if/when you crash and you do a face plant. So I sure as hell won't tell you that you need to wear a full face. But you will never see me on my bike without one. As long as you are aware of the risks, then it's your bacon, not mine that is on the line. I have my own issues to deal with. why aren't we participating in olympics yet?
CanuckInUSA replied to yurbai's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Come on Bill. We're not talking about the stone age here. I'm just trying to make a point that using fossil fuels as an excuse for not allowing a sport into the Olympics is lame. Yes the freefall disciplines of skydiving would likely not be a hit with the fans, but the Pro Swoop Tour guys should prove to be a hit. Of course swooping is a judged event and we could open up our sport to the same controversies that exist in figure skating and gymnastics. And don't tell me they won't include swooping because someone could die. World Cup skiers have died during competition in the past and hurling yourself down a mountain at 60-90 mph isn't any less dangerous than a Pro Swooper doing their thing. Skiing, ski jumping, bobsled, etc, etc, etc. How the #### do you think they get to the top of the mountain? Ice hockey, figure skating, curling, etc, etc, etc. How the #### do you think they cool the ice? Let's also not forget the motorcycles which are used for the camera footage in the road cycling events, triathlons and marathons, etc, etc, etc. Using fossil fuel is a lame excuse. AMAZON broke the US women's speed skydiving record!
CanuckInUSA replied to ACMESkydiver's topic in The Bonfire
Once again I do not wish to take anything away from Amazon, but people have gone faster. Granted I don't know how accurate my ProTrack is and I definitely wasn't following any speed record standards. But my fastest to date is 260 mph and AggieDave if memory serves me correct has been clocked even faster than that. Plus Piisfish has posted some more official speed record numbers. Once again, congrats to Amazon for setting the US womens record. But it's no World Record as Conundrum might have been asking for. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -

CanuckInUSA replied to ACMESkydiver's topic in The Bonfire
Not to take anything away from Amazon, but people (men) have gone faster. Congrats to Amazon though. Just watchout for those speeds when it comes to opening. She's already blown up one canopy. You wouldn't want to get into the habit of doing this (blowing up canopies) as that could get a little expensive not to mention dangerous. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
Wingsuits: Will you try one.

I would like to try an S3 to see what they are all about. But I'm definitely keeping my GTi for the long haul. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
0:12:0 I made my first skydives in a month after an injury layoff. 6 fun jumps made at Denver Skydivers on Saturday (Brush, CO) and guys I will be back this fall. And another 6 jumps made a MHSD (Longmont, CO) on Sunday. I was supposed to do my first "A" this weekend, but it never happened (my fault). Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Wingsuits: Will you try one.
CanuckInUSA replied to KrisFlyZ's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I currently own and have made about 37 jumps on a GTi and have had a lot of fun with it. I would like to try an S3, but I've been spend muuch-o $$$ recently on tons of other stuff and can't see myself putting in an order any time soon. But maybe next year I'll be sporting an S3 to go along with my GTi. Oh and the primary purpose for me to jump a wingsuit is to build up enough experience so that in the future you will see me hucking myself off of some big walls with a wingsuit. But that goal/dream is still many moons away. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
Looks cool. But I've got to wonder about the ground you'd be landing on (it looks slopped). By the way, several of us are looking forward to the Skydive Moab boogie next month. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I don't have time to do a thorough search, but I found these stats of the number of players from each country. Please keep in mind that the NHL is an ever changing entity with players being drafted, players being promoted and demoted to and from the minors and players retiring. But it will give you a rough idea as to the demographics of the different nationalities which make up the NHL. Canada 285, USA 137, Sweden 67, Russia 56, Czech Republic 56, Finland 22, Belarus 9, Slovakia 6, Norway 5, Latvia 4, Switzerland 4 and the Ukraine 3. I don't like Hamm and haven't been impressed with his demeanor in all of this. But asking him to give up his Gold medal is bullshit. Like it or not, the NFL didn't reverse the call the day after the AFC Championship game (Oakland versus New England) a few years ago (actually I think the call on the field was correct but virtually ever Raider fan will say otherwise). Once the officials/judges have made a call, they need to stand by that call regardless of whether or not it was the right call. This whole gymnastics controversy crap this year is starting to set a precedence. You don't like how things worked out? So just whine and bitch until they change it? Bullshit I say. Hamm should keep the Gold (even if mistakes were made). Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

But at the same time what gives these North American professional teams from certain sports the rights to call themselves World Champions? By the way, the true hockey World Champion will be crowned next month as Canada, USA, Russia, Sweden, Finland, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Germany will be playing in the up and coming World Championship hockey tournament. I always laugh when an NHL, MLB and/or NBA team call themselves World Champions. The only sport I can stomache when they say this is the NFL as the only other country competing with athletes of their own is Canada and well you know what would happen if the US put their best up against Canada's best in football.
