  1. What's not to like about Brits. She's cute, she's friendly, she's smart, she swoops and she jumps off of fixed objects. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  2. Congrats ... it's a great video and nice to see it being promoted by PD. On a different note, has anyone noticed that PDs got a video of Jay's world distance record except that this video is from a previous attempt (I guess SDC) as it's not from Colorado even though they mention his CO distance right next to the video. Oops!!! I guess even PD can make a mistake. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  3. Not in Alberta. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  4. Thanks for the raw footage video Ian, this is great and just what the doctor ordered. We can finally see what went on that day without resorting to memory. I'm still having some downloading issues (I've only been able to watch the distance events) but one thing comes to mind while watching this raw footage and it just backs up my memory from the event. The thing that comes to my mind is, dang there were a lot of good canopy pilots at that event. Sure the best of the best were better than everyone else. But even the people who finished at the back of the pack were flying well. It just goes to show that there is plenty of talent all over the place and things should only get better in the years to come. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  5. They're in Afghanistan right now. But I sure hope we don't see them in Iraq. The US needs to be thinking of pulling out of there in the not too distant future. Adding more people to the mix isn't going to help anything. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  6. Stephen Harper is an economist and a damn smart one at that. Don't you want a smart business oriented person in charge of one of the country's most important jobs? People who follow business have known Harper's economic reputation for years. He's not this neo-con right wing nut case the media and Liberals try to paint him out to be. Is he a little too GWB'ish with his "God bless Canada" and religious beliefs? Probably more than your average agnostic would like to see, but this agnostic is willing to give the guy a chance to see what kind of a job he can do running the country. I mean after all he can't be as bad and corrupt as the last guy can he? He is an economist and I trust him that he's not going to do something stupid which will hurt a lot of people. He's a smart man. And besides, even if he had a strong majority in Parliament (which he doesn't have), the Senate is still controlled by the Liberals. So he can't push a neo-con right wing agenda despite the scare tactics the Liberals (and NDP to some extend) tried to do for every conservative politician who comes around. But I would like to see the Conservative Party back off on the recently passed "same sex" bill. Capitalism and the free markets are all about the freedom of choice. Freedom is a powerful word. It's a word tainted with plenty of blood spilled by those willing to give their lives so that we can live in a free market society like we find ourselves in today. So give people regardless of their orientation, the freedom to choose how they want to live their lives as long as their lives do not directly hurt someone else's existence. Ultimately it comes down to where you view the world. If you think the able body individual should be responsible for making their own way in life, then yes with a little tinkering we can find some common ground in this confederation to make things work for most if not all Canadians. But if you think the government is solely responsible for your well being, then we've got some irreconcilable differences. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Very nice. I look forward to parts 2 through 7. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  8. Cool video ... it brings back good and bad memories. Mainly good ones though. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  9. I read something yesterday that made me think something was fishy here but I wasn't about to say anything not knowing exactly what was what. But I'm glad that this turned out to be NOT true and something good which can come from this HOAX is that BASE jumpers start communicating with each other and start supporting each other in times of need. No object should ever be more sacred than the life of a fellow jumper. I don't do a lot of illegal jumps (call me anything you want, it doesn't matter) but if/when I find myself in a similar situation, I'd rather deal with the law and some trespassing issues than deal with the guilt of abandoning a jumper in need. 10. Dude Stu is likely to hand our asses to ourselves on the CPC no matter what we do to him. But it is an interesting concept ... to "Tonya Harding" someone ... it's a verb now ... Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  11. I'm still trying to get used to all this winter time wet Pacific Northwest weather (it sure is nice to see sunshine for the first time in a long time). But I do look forward to visiting the Vancouver area DZs as well as the WA State area DZs once the weather starts improving. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  12. Well at least you've been able to make a jump on your new canopy. The same can not be said for yours truly. But hey, things have got to be looking up. I finally got a job offer and start the new gig next week. If you guys see me posting on DZ.COM during the day, give me shit. Hmmm ... any chance you're free this week to hook up before I start this new gig? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  13. This is a good day for democracy except that Canada remains as divided as ever. Not a single riding in one of Canada's large urban centers (Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver) voted for the Conservatives. Much of French Montreal continues to support the seperatists Bloc Quebecois and English Montreal and Toronto continues to support the status-quo "corrupt" Liberals. The other large urban center, Vancouver is a mixture of the Liberals and NDP (a socialist party who insists on large government and high taxes ... because the good people of Canada couldn't possible be able to support themselves and need big government to look after everyone ... rubbish I say). Anyway I can only hope that Canadians (more importantly parlament) gives the Conservatives a chance to govern and to show the country that they aren't as evil as the opposition parties made them out to be with their unfounded scare tactics. But time will tell ... nevertheless, it is a good day for democracy. At least we have the ability to change governments without shedding blood in the streets. 14. There's no time to track on a sub terminal jump. Watch the commercial again and you'll notice that enough of the jump is shown. They show the initial deployment after a short delay and based on how the canopy opens, it tells you that it is a slider down jump off of a low'ish object. There is no time to track. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  15. I just forwarded that URL on to a non-jumping yet still currently "injured" friend of mine. I hope she likes it. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  16. I think Chris Hayes has pretty much set the record straight for many of us. If we want good judges, good video, good volunteers and just a good over all competition. Then we need to expect to pay for it. What's left over after that can be used as prize money for the winners (for regional CPC events it's usually not that much to begin with). 17. If he commited a crime he should do the time. But professional athletes have been known to get their "get out of jail for free" cards every once in a while. Not long ago here in the city of Vancouver BC a pedestrian was struck down and killed by a hit and run driver after a night out on the town. The police say they know who the registered owner of the car is (who knows who was driving), but still no arrests have been made. Not long ago one of the local TV stations told us that the car is owned by a member of the NHL's Vancouver Canucks (they didn't mention a name only that the owner of the vehicle is affiliated with the team). It seems pretty fishy to me that the police know the registered owner, but I guess public relations for the local sports team is more important than public safety? What other professional athletes do we know who have gotten away with murder? So I'm guessing that yes the Seahawks will let their man play. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  18. I'll go out on a limb and say that Seattle will meet Denver in the Super Bowl (an old AFC West matchup) and Denver's D will come up big. But what do I know? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  19. Matt is a good kid and a heads up pilot. He did very well last summer handling an aircraft emergency that I got to witness very very close and personal. But that doesn't mean that he couldn't kill himself one day. He has been known to be a risk taker. If he does survive, rest assured he will have done some neat stuff by the time he's old and grey. But I think he's just here trying to stur some of you guys up and you're falling into his trap. But rest assured he is a heads up pilot. I've seen it up close and personal. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  20. I'd actually like to attempt 5 footers and see how that goes and I wasn't even one of the top guys. Plus, I'd like to see if Chris Hayes's scoring system can be adopted by more regions. Why not if it's a way to allow the lesser experienced folks to compete against the more established. Let's anti-up, treat our judges, video-people and other volunteers well and have some fun. 21. I first started talking to Ian online about skydiving in the fall of 2003 (if I'm not mistaken). Then I met him at that years Eloy Holiday Boogie. First talking about freeflying and then more on swooping. Over the years he has given me help and opinions which was always been professional and useful. Plus in Colorado he told me how I could increase my powerband techniques to produce better speed and distance results. But he also warned me at the same time not to change my approach for this comp and to only work on this technique in the future. Once again professional and courtious advice which was totally correct. I didn't change my approach and am happy with how I flew that day. But I could be flying so much farther and faster thanks to the advice that Ian and others gave me that week. In fact the only time I used Ian's technique was on that first speed run with our 10 mph downwind component, the one that I rear riser stalled on. Hey what a minute? Ian plotted against me! ... just kidding, I'm the one who fucked up, not Ian. He had his own issues. The three amigos Stu: The strong silent type. Ian: The logical one. Mark: Oh what would we do without Mark? We love him don't we? Actually sorry Stu, I think someone like Tyler should take your spot in this love triangle. Maybe Dan? No Tyler. PS: I actually enjoyed meeting you Mark but I don't live as close to you as Ian does. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  22. One thing to keep in mind about unplanned wingsuit buzzes. Yes you are the pilot of the wingsuit while it is still flying and yes you are the pilot of the canopy once it's opened and you're in a position to fly it. But you are a total passenger between the initial PC deployment and once you can get a canopy over your head and some wing(s) collapsed to the point where you can steer your canopy away from any obstacle (like a person under canopy who wasn't expecting you to be in their airspace). Wingsuit passes can have some cool visuals. But they need to be preplanned and agreed upon ahead of time. Remember if you like to pull in a track which uses up less vertical opening altitude, that a wingsuit also uses some horizontal space for it's opening and it would really suck to collide with a person under canopy while you're still a passenger. 23. Smart ass ... I miss the sunny skies of CO and while I know it's not full, I also miss that body of water in Wrongmont. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  24. It could be worse. At least we're not you. But then again, I haven't had much to boast about these last three months in rainy BC with dwindling savings and still no job. So yes "it does suck to be me". Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  25. I guess I just get confused when you say the SYSTEM needs major changes when it's really minor tweaking that is likely only needed. I'm not trying to be confrontational when I say this, but what are your alternatives? Personally I still think that if someone has the skill to consistently hit pro qualified courses, then why shouldn't they be allowed to compete on that venue. But one also needs to build experience somewhere else first and who says when someone is really ready to take a pro qualifier. Right now the system says "finish in the top ten at the CPC nationals". Is there better way? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
