  2. The bottom line is that there appears to be several job openings for videographers at Mile-Hi in CO and Chris is just asking if the existence of the new swoop pond might help lure people to the DZ. But yes, if you are working as a videographer, you shouldn't be swooping the pond on those work jumps since the pond is not at all close to where the tandems land. But that doesn't mean that people can't swoop the pond on their other "fun" jumps. In terms of what's better or what's worse when it comes to altitude, I tend to agree with Grant that people will just choose what they are used to. The vast majority of my swoops were made at Mile-Hi's 5k MSL altitude. But now that I am living at sea level, I must adjust to my new environment. But I don't necessarily think that either one is easier or harder. They both have their challenges. Plus while swooping at sea level, I don't think it's a case of having to setup lower. I think it's more a case of having to get that canopy diving longer. Sure in some respects (for the experienced canopy pilot) swooping at altitude is easier. But you sure wouldn't want a novice swooper just ripping one at altitude before they got used to how much the canopy will dive. For me the real challenge of swooping (not talking about making entry gates) isn't at what altitude do you start your turn. For me the real challenge is when does one get off of the risers and getting off the risers seems to differ (nothing radical of course) depending on if you're swooping at altitude or at sea level. But to get back onto the topic, I really enjoyed my years in Colorado. IMHO, it's one of the best places in the USA. The weather is awesome, the scenery is beautiful and there are a lot of other activities people can do like play in the mountains if they need to take a break from jumping. The new Mile-Hi should not be confused with the old Mile-Hi. This DZ has the potential to be a bad ass DZ and don't forget that there is also a new wind tunnel in the state to go along with this new "bad ass" swoop pond. I wish I was still there. But what can you do when you're not born in the US and the INS has pretty much told you ... thanks but no thanks. I guess I shall just be contempt with having to visit the state instead of calling it home like I did for 8 years. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  3. All the info you need should be available on the Triax website. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  4. I voted "Hell Yes" except that I'm not allowed to work in the USA as a skydiving bum. The altitude should be the least of people's worries if they are a decent canopy pilot. The cost of living in CO? Well that's a different story. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  5. Should we re-break Jeremy Neis's (sp?) femur so that the three amigos (who kind of grew up together if I'm not mistaken) can be reunited all in the same hospital room. Sending get well vibes to both Jim and Duane. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  6. Today is no different from yesterday. Sure there may be a void in my life as a single person. But I'm okay with this. There are pros and cons to being in or not being in a relationship and a huge pro is being able to do what I want when I want to do it without worrying about what someone else is going to think or say. Happy Tuesday ... Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  7. I'm kind of poor at this moment (I never should have bought that JVX as it's ultra expensive and I'm in debt because of it) and I only recently started work again after my 10 month layoff. But I did make a small donation towards Matt's recovery. PS: I miss CO, but what can you do. Take care ... Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  8. I got to watch Superterminal the other day and without a doubt there is some hardcore (a few feet above the tree line) footage in it. But the music and editing style didn't do much for me (plus I thought it was on the short side). I've only seen "Kean and Able" once and while I've watched "Radix" a couple of more times than just once, my favorite JH video to date was his original video "Standard Issue". I'm not sure why, but maybe because I enjoyed the music, editing and overall fun from "Standard Issue". Of course we're all different and we all have different opinions as to what is entertaining and what isn't. Just as BASE means different things to different people. Now what does this video talk have to do with the original topic of this thread? I don't have a ###### clue. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  9. I like the diversity of your videos. They are always more than just BASE videos. They include freeflying, swooping and all that other crazy stuff and you usually do a great job editing the footage to some cool tunes. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  10. No you're not. Agreed ... in fact it's a good idea to dedicate some jumps to canopy control when flying a new wing. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  11. Is Mar's birthday on the 11th? I think it is right? It's also my mother's birthday today (the 11th). I better remember to call her. Happy Birthday Mar!!! Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  12. Ha ... Monkey Man is older than that. He and I are the same age. In fact I thought he and I were born within a week or so from each other. Isn't he an October '63 kind of guy? Are you talking sky birthdays or birthday birthdays? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  13. The world needs more people like Mohammad Khatami and I can only hope that many more Muslims of the world listen to him instead of following these radicals which have hiijacked the religion of Islam. More can be read about him here. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  14. Agreed ... there is way too much drama on these boards as of late. I know it is a different sport with a different set of issues (plus BASE means different things to different people), but the "Swooping" forum both here as well as www.canopypiloting.com don't generate nearly as much drama as this BASE forum. Remember: less bitching, more jumping ... right. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  15. If you ever have doubt concerning the validity of your pack job, re-pack it. Packing is not a big deal. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  16. Looks good. I wonder what the "handicap" will be to go along with the 5 footers in the "advanced" class. Plus shouldn't the "rookie" class be called something along the line of "journeyman" (not that a name means anything). Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  17. "What for you jump from them airplanes?" - is where the term whuffo came from. You're not a whuffo if you want to jump. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  18. Sounds like we're dealing with two issues here. #1) Make sure you're jumping for the right reasons and jumping for yourself and not to impress anyone else. From the sound of this, yes it seems like you are jumping for the right reasons. Just don't forget it. Jump for yourself, not for others. #2) Don't let your friend influence you. Yes he/she may have more jumps and you know what, the longer you stay in this sport you're always going to come across people with more jumps or even less jumps than you. 70 jumps is 70 jumps. Nothing more, nothing less. Your friend needs to realize that their 70 jumps puts them above the AFF student, but it's still only 70 jumps. Shit my almost 1400 jumps don't mean all that much and it sure doesn't mean anything to the Whuffo world. Be safe ... have fun ... don't die. 19. All the more reason to reject man made religions. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  20. It's a parachute. It wants to open. Don't be a pussy when it comes to packing. Packing is not a big deal. Just do it. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  21. I couldn't help but notice the latest violence from the Muslim world today. And this time it's Muslims killing Muslims because a certain group of Muslims is different from the other and they don't like each other. WTF I say? The sooner the western world no longer has a dependence on these people (who are obviously pretty messed up and have little value for life), the better off we're all going to be. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  22. I made a couple of jumps with Girl George last month while she was in town visiting her Grandmother and have her phone number (plus while I forget her screen name, she has been seen every once in a while on these boards). PM sent ... Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  23. I wish my name didn't appear as the creator of this thread as I can see a lot of potential angry flak coming from this thread. Let me just state that I believe Matt is a very competent aviator as I have experienced an aircraft emergency up close and personal with Matt as PIC last summer and he did a very good job handling the situation once it yielded it's ugly face at us. When I first read the newspaper article which stated that the winds were out of the west that day (which it usually comes from on most days on the front range), my immediate reaction was, dang you don't launch from the Wonderland Lake slope in those type of WX conditions. But as Colin and Nick pointed out, we weren't there. So I'm am going to accept Nick's explaination that he thinks this accident was the result of a rigging mistake and/or a gear malfunction instead of poor weather judgement. As I said, I believe Matt is a competent aviator and he's very knowledgeable about flying in different weather conditions. Sending get well vibes to Calvin19.
