We can not say that you are wrong anymore than you can say that you are right. Your beliefs are based upon words written in a book that many of us don't believe in. It's as simple as that. As far as I'm concerned, "The Burble" and "The Holy Ka-boom" all belong in the fiction section of the library and/or book stores. The universe is too vast with too much unknown about it to believe in a series of man-made religious texts written before humans had a real understanding of science and the universe we live in. But your Burble continues to teach people that the world was created in 7 days and that everything revolves around us and our puny little star which happens to give us life and all we need to do is believe in some fictional character and we will live forever in paradise. And if we don't accept this fictional character as our Lord and Savior, we end up burning in hell for eternity. Sounds like fiction to me ... but it's all reality to people like you. Are you wanting to know about mountaineering or just day hikes in the mountains? Both can be very satisfying (and less than safe activities) but mountaineering is some serious business when you're climbing tall peaks which take days or weeks to climb and where you need ropes, ice axes and other gear (such as crampons). I'm not a hard core mountaineer, but I was getting into it (including multi-day ascents and descents in summer as well as winter months). But then I started skydiving and my life has never been the same since ... Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Sorry Denise but mine is in the shop for repairs. Besides I'm not sure I could handle being beat by two Katana's in the same meet. Finishing behind Mr Harris a few weeks ago was bad enough (just kidding of course ...) Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

CPC Meet at Skydive New England this weekend
CanuckInUSA replied to ntacfreefly's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Yes that is a very respectable time for someone only loading their 107 Katana canopy at 1.3 (and I'm not bias unlike that certain S.A. dude). Congrats Katie and keep up the good work. You'll be there in no time. To everyone else wanting to swoop, get off of your arses and out to your local swoop comps regardless if you're jumping a cross-braced canopy or a traditional canopy design as well as whether or not you're jumping an RDS or and a traditional slider+dbag+pc setup. The biggest factor in performing during a swoop comp still lies in the pilot hands and not the gear they use. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -

VX vs Velo: 270 turn starting altitudes
CanuckInUSA replied to frost's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I need to watch that video again.....a classic for sure. What video? I think they're referring to the 2001 Pond Swoop Nationals video at the Ranch. But I could be mistaken. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
LOL ... not even remotely close to having everything planned. Assuming I actually get my 3 regional CPC comps in ... which I haven't done yet, I am planning on being there and I will likely be the homeless guy found sleeping in some tent, some rental vehicle or better yet found sleeping in the ditch I passed out in the night before. Noice ... I tried a couple on dry land the other day as well and did well enough getting it around to know that I want to try it again. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I don't support either side. I think they are both ####ed up. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I'm not on either side of this issue. The way I see it, the Jews in Israel are looking for a fight just as much as the Palestinians are looking for one. Peaceful sovereign nations don't go sending their war planes over other nation's airspace like this unless they are looking to provoke something. Israel is as guilty as Palestine is when it comes to this mess the world finds itself in ... and why ... because of all these ####ed up man-made religious beliefs of the Jews, Muslims and Christians. Colorado - about to be a much nicer place to live

PST Mile Hi Canopy Cup video

It works for me, but I just upgraded my QuickTime prior to downloading the vid. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
Hey Joe ... or should I say "Hey Boston" ... You should stick to safer activities ... such as jumping out of airplanes. I mean what's the worst that could happen to you while you're skydiving? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

It's a very dangerous financial game running up your credit card bills in order to feed your jumping fix. If you're running up your bill on gear, that's one thing (at least most of the gear can be sold and some of your debt can be paid off), but if you're running up your bill on jumps ... well better you than me is all I have to say as high consumer debt is a bad game to get into. The JVX with sail material...
CanuckInUSA replied to CanopyPiloting's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Are you going to use your RDS made for your Velo? Maybe I'm mistaken, but I thought the slider on the JVX needed to be larger (at least it is on my canopies). Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
The JVX with sail material...
CanuckInUSA replied to CanopyPiloting's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Are you going to be jumping an RDS with both canopies? If no, it won't be a fare comparision if your Velo has one and the the JVX doesn't (or visa-versa). If yes, where did you get the RDS for the JVX? Mel told me to hold off of getting an RDS for the JVX until after his visits the New Zealand folks some time later this year. Also, I hope to confirm this later this coming weekend, but I'm going to lay out my JVX 96 on top of my Velo 103 to see which one is bigger. It sounds like the JVX is measured different and is larger than the advertized size (or is it that the Velo is smaller than it's size). I'm only saying all of this as I no longer know what to think about my wingloading on both canopies. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
Agreed ... One only needs to look at yours truly this season jumping a new JVX and it sure hasn't been winning any comps for me as of late mainly because ... I'm not all that good, my wing loading is not all that high (the advertized JVX sizing is bigger than the Velocity sizing), I'm still not using an RDS (Mel told me to hold off getting one and I don't know where else to turn) and I'm currently not doing any turns bigger than 270s. I used my Velo on a couple of zone accuracy rounds this last weekend and it reminded me that it is still a very nice wing to fly. I'm not going to give up on the JVX yet, but it really is the pilot and not the wing which is the biggest influencing factor and well lately this pilot has not been flying all that well. I'm not always happy with where my life has taken me and I'm certainly not happy in my current situation. But that doesn't mean I'm suicidal or anything like that. All I need to do is remind myself of the good days I've experienced to get me through the less than good days. In otherwords I still have faith that more happiness awaits me before I want to check out of here. But I'm sure if I went in on a jump, not many would notice or would care and that has helped in the past towards making that leap of faith into the abyss. Why do I jump? I jump because I love playing in the skies (this applies to both BASE and skydiving) and the risk of dying on a jump is worth the reward of being able to play where very few people on this planet have ever ventured. But I also have no dependents (other than a pet) and my demise on a jump would only effect myself, my family and any friends who care about me. I am concerned about people with your attitude though. In the whuffo public's eye, we're all a bunch of adrenaline junkies with death wishes and I would like to prove all those whuffos wrong by surviving my future skydives and future BASE jumps well into my old age. But when we have people who don't care using jumping as a way to figure out how far they can push their limits before they go too far, then these people are showing little respect for the sport and the people who care about the sport. It's one thing to die being a pioneer ... it's another thing to die because you don't care. If you don't care, there are better ways to do yourself in while not hurting the sport. You're not alone here Dee ... on my way to Snohomish this last weekend it appears that I stopped off at the donut shop for one too many as all I seemed capable of doing was verting the 5 footers. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Wind penetration in your swoop

Reasonably light crosswind with a bit of a head wind component. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
Wind penetration in your swoop
CanuckInUSA replied to AggieDave's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Don't think too small. Last week Shimell verted when he didn't need to. He was all tucked up and all he needed to do was to extend one of his legs down to make the gates. But he didn't ... and got a donut because of it. Swooping into a strong'ish headwind is not easy. In our comp last weekend I let the headwind get to my mind and on my first zone accuracy attempt I didn't think I had enough speed to make it to a positive scoring zone and took a donut when I possibly didn't need to. Then on the next run in similar winds I generated too much speed and blew past the positive scoring zones ... resulting in another donut. I think many of us could use a little more practice jumping into strong'ish head/cross winds (even though downwinds are much more fun). Never said this stuff about running gates was easy ... at least it's not easy for most of us mortals. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
I'll play with you. But what's Stu going to say? Keep running gates ... sooner or later you'll figure them out and when you do, it will be good to see you possibly kicking our arses out there. See you in CO either next month or in August (or maybe even up here in the NW at one of our comps). Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

As predicted, I finished near the back of the pack in 26th of 27 competitors. But I was the least experienced person at this PST swoop comp, it was my first (yes beer) PST comp, so finishing at the back of the pack was to be expected. I would have faired a bit better had I been able to score points in zone accuracy (my specialty last season) as I got two donuts in those rounds. But it's all good. I had a lot of fun, learned a thing or two and it was nice being back in Colorado. Did you find someone to attend this show with? I'm still planning on heading off to Snohomish sometime tomorrow afternoon (the earlier the better) though I am a tad concerned about the potential rain ... again ... in the forecast. Renouned cosmologist and astronomer Steven Hawkings claims that humans are getting ever so closer to understanding the origins of the universe, but he still doesn't understand women (aghh shit who does ...). More can be read about this here. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
