  1. I tell you, man-made religions will be the death of us all with so many people willing to sacrific themselves for their God. Muslim, Christian and Jews ... we'd all be better off if none of these religious groups existed. But they do. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  2. I don't think he was referring to not jumping a 486' cliff and instead was referring to NOT jumping slider up on a 486' cliff since slider up openings are at a higher risk of coming out off heading than a slider down/off jump. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  3. Sorry dude but I will be down in Snohomish WA sometime on Friday preparing for this coming weekend's NWCPC swoop comp. I thought that was last weekend Last weekend was a PST comp in CO. This weekend is the NW CPC. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

  5. Let's keep the Bonfire remarks in the Bonfire. Back on topic: Last time I checked, the event which occured in Colorado this last weekend was a full blown Pro Swooping Tour event attended by some of the best canopy pilots in the world (as well as a few advanced amateur competitors). I think we know why Jim started this thread (he's proud of the JVX) but since when did we want to hold back people competing on the PST with their gear selections? Shouldn't people competing at the elite level be allowed the freedom to choose what they want to fly and how they want to fly it (as long as they don't scare the judges too much). Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  6. Makes you feel better when you judge others doesn't it. Remember anyone of us is capable of messing up (in case you haven't noticed we participate in a dangerous sport where people are sometimes killed and/or seriously injured). So we're all capable of being that "dumbass" when we really didn't intend to be one in the first place. So don't get hurt, otherwise what goes around comes around. Not that it matters, but I'm sending get well vibes to Ben ... Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  7. I think we can all agree that it is the pilot first before the wing (as an example myself the least experienced person in this swoop comp finished at the back of the pack even though I am on a JVX versus someone like TJ or Jeffro who would finish near the front regardless of what wing they were on). But you shouldn't criticize something that you may not have tried yet. The JVX is an awesome wing and a real pleasure to fly. Give it some more time and you will start to see what it is capable of doing. Oh, I will be reverted back to my Velo on (most) zone accuracy runs as I just generated way too much speed on that 2nd zone accuracy run to think that I could shut it down before I reached the end of the positive scoring zones. Either that or I just need to jump it more and learn how to control it better. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  8. Hey I was the guy following Hansie on all those different loads. Are you calling me a snake? A slug maybe, but not a snake. Hey despite the fact that I finished way down in the standings, I had a blast competing at this pro swoop comp and I had two good guys (Hans and Nick) to be on the same passes with. Plus I would like to thank all those (Paul R stands out) who gave me feedback with my swoops. I still have much to learn when it comes to competing against the big dogs, but this last weekend was a good start. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  9. Looks like it's a little windy in CO today. I should be at the DZ tomorrow morning (hopefully to get some practice in WX permitting of course). Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  10. It's kind of ironic. In one thread he takes the high moral ground of "they're innocent until proven guilty" stance yet in this thread he's quick to slam the English soccer (or should I say football) fans before they've even set foot in Germany. I hope the English soccer fans control their alchohol consumption and thus their emotions prior to these World Cup games as it's time to spot lite the players and the game of soccer (or was that football) instead of focusing on the fans. 11. No the justice system doesn't work that fast. But these suspects did have their first day in court today and during their up and coming trials we will hear more details about who and what they were plotting to blow up. I've got a better place I'd like to see them go to. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  12. Yes I agree I would like to be left alone. But you're missing the point that these Islamic extremists who were arrested last night are either all Canadian citizens or people who have been in this country for many years now. And you're painting them as the poor oppressed victims? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  13. The RCMP and CSIS (Canada's equivalent to the CIA) have arrested 17 home grown Islamic extremist in the Toronto area and have confuscated 3 tonnes of ammonium nitrate (3 times what was used in the Oklahoma City bombings back in 1995). More about this story can be read here as well as here. I am extremely happy that we caught this group of low life scum before they could bring their terror upon the population. But one has to wonder how many more cells are out there. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  14. I can't criticize someone if they want/need to take a break from such a un-safe sport as ours especially when they have a family they want to be around for. Something else could always take them from their family (accident, illness and/or some act of god, crime or terrorism). But we all know that we won't die skydiving if we're not skydiving and thus one possible way of death can be eliminated for Chris. But I can speak from personal experience that in the last 8-9 months I have felt that my life is slowly being sapped away from me because I want to play in the skies so much and can't because I stupidly moved to a place in the world where it rains on almost every day. I love playing in the skies, I love the joys of being up there. I am happiest up there. But I can't be up there nearly as much as I want to (stupid weather) and because of this, I'm not all that happy. I'm not depressed or anything like that (it's more a case of being angry at Mother Nature and/or myself for moving to a part of the world where the weather sucks). But come September I will be moving again and while it's not going to be anywhere near a skydiving/BASE jumping hotbed. It will be in a part of the world where I will be able to save money more easily and will thus be able to afford to travel more for my jumping fix. I for one want to continue skydiving for many more years and while Shannon's death has made me wonder about my BASE jumping exploits, I also want to continue to pursue that activity as well. It's just that that activity needs more respect that people lately have been giving it. Good luck to Chris ... he and I are in different boats. He's got his family to live for. I just want to get back up into the skies ... but there is more to life than skydiving and BASE ... Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  15. I try to learn from the things I could have done better on each jump to improve on on the next jump. An example of this is, did I read the winds properly and start my turn at the right moment in order to compensate for the weather conditions. Sometimes I see good results, sometimes I don't. But think marathons not sprints when it comes to getting better in this sport. Since you appear to jump at a DZ with tons of other good canopy pilots (like the South African dude who talks funny and makes passes at Spizzarko ... or was that the other way around) I trust that they are giving you good feedback to your swoops. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  16. My biggest fear is taking myself out since I should know better. My biggest fear is screwing up and taking someone else out. Eugene A couple of summers ago I almost did that to someone else on a head down freefly jump. At that time I told myself to slow down and concentrate on canopy control and the next thing you know I'm doing tons and tons of hop n' pops and I became a competitive swooper. So most of my jumps lately aren't done with very many others. But you're right I would like to ammend what I said last night. My biggest fear is taking myself and someone else out because I know better and it's almost happened in my past. It's a marathon not a sprint to become better in this sport. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

  18. Awesome piece and kudos to you for showing such strength. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  19. As someone originally from Russia, I would have thought that Pop would have been into hockey. But he's more into his Mixed Martial Arts and thus will never be a real Canadian until he changes his ways. Isn't this an "abuse Pop" thread or did I take a wrong turn at Albuquerque? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  20. Until Pop starts watching hockey (or better yet playing it), he'll never be a Canadian and will continue being like all the other immigrants here in Vancouver. It's funny though folks, a month or so ago I was in a "so-called" sports bar with Pop and each of us had the right seat for our sporting interests. I had hockey in my view and he had his martial arts on his screen. So we were both happy. By the way what spark all these "let's abuse Pop" threads? I guess you know your loved. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  21. As Shimmel says "get coaching" since none of us are "yanking" on our fronts. Our fronts are one of several tools which we use towards getting our canopies to dive. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  22. I can't be the only one thinking that we don't have the luxury on sub-terminal (low'ish) BASE jumps to waste time trying to get stable when we mess up our exits. It's better to get something out (the PC) with a less than ideal body position than it is to try and get stable. I think this last weekend proved to us that while Twin may be one of the safer jumpers around, it's still not a safe jump. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  23. Let's not go down that road. You will make mistakes up there. We all have. It just depends on what kind of mistake you make and the margin for error in the mistake. There is nothing wrong with this thread if it wakes a few people up, it's done it's job. I'm sad she went in, but I'm not surprised she went in. She was BASE jumping. It's not a safe activity to begin with and it sure can be as dangerous as you want to make it. I could be next. I know I've made mistakes up there and ... knock on wood ... I've been lucky so far. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
