  1. There is one Christmas song I like and never really get tired of hearing. "Oh Holy Night". I am not even religious yet there is something about this song that appeals to me. But I can do without most of the other Christmas songs. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  2. Doug Jarvis holds the consecutive games played record for NHL Hockey players at 964 which is pretty darn impressive since hockey is a physical sport. I knew Jarvis held this record, I didn't have to look it up. But my memory wasn't that good that I knew exactly how many games he played. So yeah I still needed to look it up. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_NHL_players_with_500_consecutive_games_played But Cal Ripken JR holds the record for any athlete in the major pro sports having played 2,632 consecutive baseball games and while baseball isn't as violent as football or hockey, collisions in that sport do exist, and players do get hurt (including being hurt from getting hit by a pitch at the plate). So Cal Ripken JR's record is also pretty impressive. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Major_League_Baseball_consecutive_games_played_streaks Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  3. Brett Favre at 321 consecutive games (includes playoff games) from 1992 through to 2010. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_most_consecutive_starts_by_a_National_Football_League_quarterback Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  4. Do you have it in you to tell everyone here what a marvelous job the "Liberal Party of Ontario" have done to the Ontario economy with their Green Energy agenda? I know I could tell people how the Liberals have driven businesses out of the Province due to high energy costs and wasted billions and billions of dollars taking the once economic powerhouse Province of Ontario into being a complete economic basketcase in less than a decade all because of their Green Energy agenda and Culture of Entitlement. But it would be much more interesting if a Progressive from Toronto, themselves stood up and told everyone here the truth about how other Progressives from the same Toronto have destroyed a once powerful Province with their Green Energy agenda. If you want to know how to destroy an economy, look no further than the benchmark Ontario Liberals have set. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  5. This is real, it happened a couple of weeks ago. A Christmas Miracle from West Jet Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  6. Yes and no. If the ECU wasn't damaged in the fire, it contains historical information on how the engine was being operated. But it is not protected the same way the airplane black boxes are protected. Since this Carrera GT went up in flames, it's likely all the engine data also burned up. I too have been following the conversation on RennList since as a Porsche 911 owner I am sort of a regular there (under a different user name). But I have refrained from posting anything there concerning this accident since it is all speculation and we know speculation in skydiving accidents never results in anything positive. We still don't know exactly how the car was being driven nor what caused it to lose control and hit the tree. But the Carrera GT is very light, very powerful and easy to lose control of the rear on either power on oversteer or lift off oversteer scenarios and it is also difficult to build proper tire pressure and tire/brake temperatures while driving on the public roads. But with all that said the driver of this car had experience beyond what most of us have (I race and I don't have the experience he had), so it's difficult to have an opinion until more is learned about the accident other than to say "Take it to the track if you want to drive fast. There are just too many unknowns on the public roads". Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  7. If you want to drive at the limits, take it to the track. No excuses. It's just plain dumb to drive at extreme speeds on the public roads. There are just too many unknowns on the public roads to make the risks worth it. PS: the driver Roger Rodas, had racing experience. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  8. We need to stop referring to this "Knockout" nonsense as a game. It's not a game. It's assault bordering on attempted murder. It is a criminal act that shows a complete lack of respect for life. We did some dumb things when I was young. But nothing that comes close to the lack of respect that this "Knockout" BS is. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  9. I'm likely to pick up the PS4, but I don't need one yet. I will likely look around the retail stores for one in the mid to late February time frame since the game I want to play on the new console won't be released until late February early March anyway. 10. One does not need to relocate all the way to Alaska. There are jobs in Alberta and Saskatchewan. You just need to get used to being surrounded by others who's heads split in two when they talk and who like "doing it doggie style so that neither of them needs to miss the hockey game". 11. You can fire non-restricted firearms on your own property if it is a safe location (such as rural properties), but no you can not use a restricted firearm on your own property, never, ever regardless of how safe and remote your property may be. Another asinine aspect of the laws. Oh and I was wrong earlier when I said the storage requirements were fine. The storage requirements for a non-restricted firearm are fine, but the requirements for restricted firearms once again are just plain dumb. You need two locks on the firearm for restricted firearms whereas you only need one lock on the non-restricted versions. A lock can be a few things. A lock can be a trigger lock, a lock on the breech, a locked storage cabinet or a locked room. But why two locks? A restricted firearm is no more dangerous than the non-restricted variety. Once again why two locks? Just plain dumb. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  12. Some of Canada's gun laws are reasonable. I have no problems with the training and testing aspects of the laws. In fact the training for those new to firearms is a good idea. Even the storage aspects of the laws are reasonable. But the transportation of restricted firearms is asinine. Ownership of a restricted firearm (a hand gun or one of those scary looking black guns even though they are no more harmful than a non-restricted hunting rifle) is just not worth the headaches the bureaucracy has put in place surrounding the transportation of these classes of firearms. One thing is funny though. While it is highly recommended NOT to do this. In Canada it is perfectly legal to be carrying a non-restricted firearm (a hunting rifle or a shotgun) in the open walking down a busy street, just as long as the firearm is not loaded, is not being pointed at anyone and you are in possession with the appropriate paper work. Of course who in their right mind would want to do this, except of course if their vehicle broke down and they did not want to leave the firearm in the vehicle if it's presence could not be hidden from plain view. 13. Contrary to what some may think, race car drivers are not taught "Head on a Swivel". Race car drivers are taught to look well beyond the car(s) directly in front of them, to look where they want to go and to use their peripheral vision to manage the traffic in their immediate vicinity. Now driving on a race track and driving on the public roads are different. Race tracks are highly predicable and repeatable whereas public roads are anything but. However most people driving on the public roads are simply not looking far enough in front of them and this is why they often get surprised by some sort of event. By the time the collision is upon them, they do not have enough time to react. But if they had been looking further ahead, they would have noticed the problem sooner and would have had more time to react. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  14. Having been someone who has actually attended one of these firearms courses in Canada I have first hand knowledge of what is required to obtain a license and the article you linked was reasonably accurate as to my own experience. I did however only pursue the "Possessions and Acquisitions License" (PAL) as the "Restricted Possessions and Acquisitions License" (RPAL) felt far more intrusive than I was willing to put myself through. I was not particularly happy with the paperwork application where the government essentially put themselves in your bedroom the way they demanded the consent of a spouse. But then again I suppose the spouse of the applicant does have the right to know that their significant other is applying for the ability to legally possess firearms. However the biggest part of the application I have issues with was with the "Have you lost your job in the last three years" questions of the application. This I found to be highly offensive and just shows how out of touch the bureaucracy is with the rest of us who live in the real world. Of course I have lost my job. I am a contract software developer. I have worked at more than 25+ different organizations since the mid 1980s. Typically I am hired to develop a product. Once it is built there is no need for me to stick around unless the organization wants to develop another product, So I pack my bags and seek employment with another organization. But this sort of reality is foreign to the government pencil pushers who have only ever worked at one job their entire life and seem to think everyone who loses their job is at risk of being some sort of homicidal maniac. So naturally I lied on this portion of the paperwork. Why put myself through more BS than what I was already having to deal with. PS: If anyone wants to know how to handle job loss, talk to me. I am an expert on the topic. The secret is, is to not think of yourself as a victim, stop your whining, get off of your rear end and find another job for crying out loud. If I can do it 25+ times you can do it once. Oh and the firearms course I took was great. They taught me how to safely handle all sorts of different firearms and I would highly recommend anyone new to firearms also take a similar course. It may just save yours or someone else's life. 15. I don't know exactly where I was. I was possibly sucking on my mother's tit? Possibly sleeping in a crib or possibly playing on the floor. I was 6 weeks old when JFK was shot. So of course I don't remember any of this. I do however remember seeing the funeral procession of Robert Kennedy on TV five 5 later and I remember being told to watch Neil Armstrong walk on the moon on TV a year after that which to a 6 year old was pretty cool. 16. Why did the football team get on the plane instead of driving home? They did it because they thought they would save time. Why did Buddy Holly get on an airplane? Because he thought he would save time. If you knew for certain that your plane would crash given the weather conditions, naturally you would not board it. But planes do fly in bad weather, and this football team is not the first, nor will they be the last to get on an airplane during questionable weather in order to save time. LOL ... it is amusing listening to a bunch of skydivers debate this. Most of us have gotten on an airplane when we shouldn't have and these pro football players do NOT have a monopoly on being scared in an airplane. While bad weather was not in the equation, I remember being on a Twin Otter with a load of skydivers when right after takeoff one of the engines failed. The pilot did not panic, she told everyone to stay put, she was doing a go around and was going to attempt to land. Yes here we were on a plane full of skydivers, there were a few people who were scared, probably just as scared as the ball players. BTW ... we landed safely, the problems was diagnosed and skydiving operations resumed soon after the problem was fixed. If you do NOT want to risk dying in an airplane crash, then by all means stay on the ground. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  17. Dang you got me there. I wasn't aware of that one, so yeah it is less famous by equally tragic. This one didn't happen all that long ago. But this one, is one of the more well known accidents Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

  19. I would love to make fun of all you 'mericans telling you that you need to change your national anthem and remove the words "Land of the Free" from it as you clearly are losing your freedom. However that would be hypocritical if I did that because Canada also uses similar words "Glorious and Free" in our anthem and it appears that we 'nucks will also need to think about changing our anthem at the same time you are changing yours. It appears that the city of Vancouver, or should I say Bancouver has banned doorknobs from all new homes. I wish I was joking, but I am not. This is on the level. The doorknobs in Bancouver have banned doorknobs. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  20. Simple question, do you think there should be mandatory jail sentences for people convicted of sex crimes against minors? Keep in mind the person must be found guilty in a court of law and in cases where the accused themselves may be a minor, this could lead to a different charges being laid where mandatory minimums might not exist. In other words this only applies when a adult commits a sex crime against a minor, should there be a mandatory minimum prison sentence applied to the convicted person? 21. You must have missed the part where I said Rob Ford is an idiot, a liar and it was one thing for Stewart to mock the idiot mayor but another thing for Stewart to mock the mayor's supporters at the football game like he just did the other night on one of his shows. I don't think Jon Stewart is a dipshit elitist for mocking Rob Ford. No Jon Stewart is a dipshit elitist for mocking people who support Ford (if you or Stewart are incapable for understanding why a man such as Ford became mayor, there is no point me trying to explain that here). Oh and Ford is not my mayor. I don't even live remotely close to Toronto. No my mayor is another joke. In fact he is a tax and spend progressive, a gay Muslim and darling of the media (imagine that Calgary Alberta has a gay Muslim mayor, it's nirvana for the Progressive media) and he is currently being sued for Defamation and expecting the tax payers to pay for his loose lips. He could have easily just said "I am sorry I didn't really mean to say that, I wasn't thinking" and avoided this mess. But he is a narcissus, and he has never been challenged by his media pals. I don't give a rats ass about him being a Muslim nor do I care that he is gay. But I have severe issues with his spending policies and even bigger issues with his attempts to socially engineer everyone into his ideology. But don't expect to hear anything negative concerning this lawsuit from the media. In fact in the few stories about this lawsuit that have made it to the media, it's all the other guy's fault. Nothing to see here folks, please move along. Of course this mayor was recently democratically elected (only about 20% of eligible voters turned out to vote because the media smeared the one candidate who had any chance to beat their darling candidate). So I must wait 4 more years before we get another chance to oust him. I believe in democracy, I can accept democracy even with all those complacent absent voters. But I don't believe in media witch hunts and I will speak out against the bias media, despite your claim that the media is on the level. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  22. Jon Stewart is a dipshit elitist media asswipe. Rod Ford is an idiot, he is a liar and the voters of Toronto have every right to throw Ford out on to the streets in 2014 when his term comes to an end. But for Stewart to mock people recently seen at a football game showing their support for Ford, just shows what a elitist asswipe Stewart is. It's one thing for Stewart to mock the idiot mayor (there is no shortage of material for Stewart to use here), but it is another thing for Stewart to mock the mayor's supporters. The people of Toronto did not elect Ford because he was this eloquent media friendly public speaker who looks fantastic in front of the cameras. The people elected Ford to put an end to the Progressive's Culture of Entitlement and despite all of Ford's personal flaws, he has taken the city in the right direction in trying to put an end to all this waste. However I have said enough about Jon Stewart. He is in the USA and it is well known that Americans really don't know or care about what is going on outside of the USA. FYI ... There is a sitting mayor in London Ontario right now who has been criminally charged with fraud. Millions of dollars were funneled from a charity he setup into the pockets of his closest associates. Revenue Canada finally removed the charitable status of this organization after numerous abnormal red flags were thrown up. On top of that this sitting mayor billed the tax payers for thousands of dollars to pay for his son's wedding. Does the media hound this mayor asking him to explain his criminal behavior? Does the media harassing this mayor at his home? Does the media harass the mayor's children publishing pictures of them as they trick or treat? Does the media demand that this mayor step down? Of course not. This mayor is Joe Fontana, former Liberal MP and Cabinet Minister in Paul Martin's Liberal Government. There is nothing to see here folks. Move along ... The media bias does exist, it is real and I am sorry if you are too closed minded to see it. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  23. Both sides are guilty for their shenanigans. However aren't you just a little concerned when one side is back by the bureaucracy who are supposed to be impartial and is also protected from their friends in the media? Without doubt there are cases where people from one side of the fence are acting like idiots and you shake your head asking yourself "and they want me to support them, why?", and they are rightfully are being blasted for being fools that they are in the media. But then someone from the other side of the fence is doing something equally abhorrent but the bureaucracy and the media sweep it under the rug "nothing to see here folks, move along". 24. I don't like the Riders but I respect them and their fans. They are without doubt the most hardcore football fans in Canada. How many people would drive 5+ hours to attend a game in arctic temperatures in late November. Not many, but Rider fans do it all the time. Yeah I hate Rider Nation, but they sure are passionate for their team. You got to wonder what the actual players think of these crazy fans, most of whom are 'mericuns, not 'nucks.
