    How are you going to prove that Glock was mine? There are no records. This is my point about the universal background check being required. Unless you have a database that shows who owns what firearms, you cannot prove that firearm ever belonged to me (or whomever). Derek V In the UK, your firearms certificate (FAC) has your picture on it and lists all the details of all firearms in your possession including serial numbers. You have to produce the FAC to purchase both guns and ammunition and , in order to acquire a new firearm you have to show "good reason" for wanting one (BTW self defence is not considered good reason in the UK).     I live in the UK, and currently own 3 firearms - a pump action Remington 870 (limited to 3 rounds), a Remington 700 chambered for .308 and a Beretta ARX160 (semi-auto only and chambered for .22LR). I use all of them on my local range and for hunting (food, not trophy). I've had to submit to a full criminal record check, had police officers visit my home and inspect both my gun and ammunition safes and any changes to the guns I hold have to be notified to the police. It's not a massive inconvenience, usually just a phone call to the local firearms officer. I have permission to hunt rabbit and pigeon on the local estates, I occasionally travel to Scotland to hunt deer and I enjoy range time with all three weapons. Atheism is a Non-Prophet Organisation

    Here in Wales, there are discussions ongoing to try and enact legislation that would require all new-build housing estates to have south facing roofs, Solar Panels (PV and hot water) and ground source heat pumps plus storage and/or feed into the national grid.     This was a base jump from a helicopter, carried out by two stuntmen. Their target, dependent on wind direction, was one of the five bridges surrounding the Olympic Stadium and water recovery teams were discreetly placed upstream.     Added to that is the attitude that their belief system and/or deity is irrelevant because it's not his and therefore, even if they do good works, they're all going to hell. I spent a year homeless after leaving the armed forces and generally found that Muslims and Sikhs were far more willing to give no strings attached charity.     The "not proven" verdict won't apply in this case as it's being tried in England but five days is not a long time for jury deliberations. The more complicated the case and the more complex the evidence, the longer it takes to reach a decision. The minimum time required before a judge will accept a majority verdict is 2hrs 10 mins but I've personally seen a case take 11 days before the jury returned a 10-2 majority guilty verdict.     Yes. The Crown Prosecution Service make all decisions about whether to pursue a court case. The police submit all their evidence to the CPS and the CPS decide whether to prosecute. Atheism is a Non-Prophet Organisation

    While a "not proven" verdict is technically an acquittal it does not violate the double jeopardy rule. Should new evidence come to light the accused can be retried at a later date for the offence. A hung jury (where the jury cannot agree a unanimous or majority verdict) will result in the jury being discharged and the trial concluded without a verdict. It will then fall to the CPS to decide whether to hold a retrial at a later date. Atheism is a Non-Prophet Organisation

    Generally, the jury will be asked for a unanimous verdict first but a majority verdict (11-1 or 10-2) will usually be accepted if no unanimous verdict can be reached. In Scottish courts which operate under a different legal system to England and Wales there's also a third verdict available to the jury "Not Proven" which has been interpreted as "We the jury believe the accused to be guilty but the prosecution hasn't presented sufficient evidence for us to return a guilty verdict."     Here in the UK we get a TV show called "I'm a Celebrity - Get me out of here!" which involves dumping several B & C list celebrities and "Famous for being famous" types in the woodland of an old plantation in Australia and calling it "the jungle". During their 3 weeks in "the jungle" they're subjected to various trials such as eating kangaroo's privates and emu arseholes amongst other things. One of the usual first day trials for two of the contestants is a tandem skydive from a helicopter, normally into a "jungle clearing" but this time both tandems made water landings into a lake. I was just wondering how much work would be involved in getting the tandem rigs ready for use again after that. Atheism is a Non-Prophet Organisation

    When I did the assault pioneer's course years ago there was a formula for calculating how much explosive was required for a particular job. IIRC it was fairly complicated but the instructors always included "+P" on the end of it - P standing for plenty. I think the whale bombers overdid that part of the calculation.     Can't travel abroad. I'm a full time carer for my wife and she's a no-fly on doctor's orders as she's had two arterial thromboses in the last few years.
