  1. where's the link between eating cholesterol and buildup of cholesterol in arteries? I am not convinced. I'd put my money on sedentary lifestyle causing cholesterol buildup. /offtopic
  2. I just got a cx110 for 200 bucks...I didnt think I would beat that price so I bought it. just out of curiosity what more would you want that the cx series doesnt provide??? I guess I'd like the SD card to not be underneath.
  3. homemade sprouts (lentil and mung) bananas potatoes eggs carrots in the summer wild berries (free and you can get buckets!) whey (natural no additives/artificial sugars) black beans sunflower seeds (really important these are organic) those are some foods I count as staples that I buy on a regular basis and save us a lot of money by eating. We eat a lot more expensive foods (if looking at strictly on a caloric level) like greens and lettuces, etc. But you gotta have some pleasure in your life :)
  4. whats the worst that could happen its only skydiving
  5. I really look forward to taking a canopy course with you some day...your attitude is exactly what I would want in a teacher :)
  6. whoa it doesnt have a reserve thats dangerous!
  7. You forgot to mention the planform which will greatly effect the result of turbulence. Its funny that you mention that Jonathan because when I read this topic I remembered how my Jonathan was particularly suceptible to collapse
  8. I didnt catch whether or not registration was open?
  9. Not at all. See note d regarding training when exceeding the recommendations. If I'm reading correctly then you cannot get a sub 150 before D license, right? Then what about 100lb girls? Are they supposed to fly .6-.7 WL until they have 500 jumps? I could see that seriously being annoying as I fly 1.1 WL and sometimes have to fight with stronger winds and getting penetration into it. If somebody has 300 jumps they should be able to fly a 1.3 (or whatever) WL so that they can penetrate winds regardless of whether thats a 135 or a 190 or whatever. I think its all a pretty pointless conversation though, as far as I see the vast majority of fatalities lately have been experienced skydivers outside the boundaries of these charts (>500 jumps). Its quite the red herring being thrown around here. I'd always err on the side of less rules and leave it up to personal responsibility (education at the dropzone by your mentors/friends).
  10. ^ it screws light weight jumpers then. They could be forced under 1.0 until 500 jumps!
  11. why would they care about what I think if I am not a member of their organization???
  12. what about get a radio and radio down before you set up landing approach? Would this be sufficient to safely do a downwinder? I definitely would like to try a(nother) crosswind and downwind landing soon but wouldnt want to needlessly add risk..
  13. how is this going to stop anything? Aren't the paragliders allowing base jumpers to HUCKleberry finn themselves off their rig going to just ignore this new rule???
  14. is it common in australia for lower jump number jumpers to fly stilettos or is it only common for your DZ?
  15. My argument that you will instantly downsize from a 150 to a 120 is exactly right according to your profile. Give me a good reason to fly a smaller reserve than your main. One good reason. That's all I ask. I'd say your judgement is demonstrably fucked up and your assertions in this thread are therefore best ignored. Well played. haha harsh man, well played indeed good vibes all around
  16. thanks Bill and Drew. I have solved this problem last 10 jumps by flaring deeper than I had 'trained' myself the last 40 jumps before that. So I just punch it out a little deeper at the end (following Drew's advice to not quite put my feet down when I think its done) and lo and behold my canopy keeps flying horizontally for another 10 or so feet and the touchdown after is much softer. I still step it out but its not a flat out run anymore. And that was in no wind so I feel pretty good. now time to work on crosswind landings thanks for advice everybody
  17. so you're saying somebody going from a 139 to a 129 instead of a 119 is being too prudent and shouldnt worry that much about the downsize? ........ why rush a progression when you can stretch it out and maximize learning at each stage? Why then are you planning a 30 sq ft downsize (from a 150 to a 120 according to your profile) if you have a cutaway on your next jump? That's a much more serious downsize for a number of reasons. because I have jumped 120 7 cells (albeit mains not reserves) for about 60 jumps and feel comfortable on them :) So your argument is not sound because the premise is false leading to a false conclusion.
  18. haha effect of el lago nicaragua :) i didnt think about that but what makes it such a great surfing country is the winds blow offshore almost 365 days a year. I wish I was there but not to jump from a plane that I could do in any bumfuck part of the USA ;)
  19. so you're saying somebody going from a 139 to a 129 instead of a 119 is being too prudent and shouldnt worry that much about the downsize? I think you are wrong, but OK I'll see if I change when I get 500 more jumps. I do not think I will though! :) why rush a progression when you can stretch it out and maximize learning at each stage?
  20. ok so just so I be clear about my question, why again are you dropping to a 119 then without jumping a 129 for a season? Why are you set on rushing the transition and taking two steps down in canopy size? It just doesnt make sense to me that you would want to make that big of a jump down. Sorry if my tone is not coming across, I'm not trying to be condescending to you, I'm just trying to understand you're thinking (no inflammatory/disrespectful talk here I hope thats clear). others: Am I being too prudent here???
  21. hey dale why are you taking 20 square feet off your current canopy size and going to a 119 when there is an intermediate step made by icarus you could take (129)? Just curious to your thinking, not chastising you or anything I sincerely am just curious how you decided to drop 20 square feet at a time.

  23. I am also curious to hear rehmwa expound on the different performance goals between katana and crossfire2. thought they were both pretty high performance canopies with relatively long recovery arcs designed for swooping.
  24. I believe the SIM is ambiguously worded here. It says a skydiver holding an instructional rating can do recurrency jumps....presumably they mean holding a AFF rating, but it seems like it leaves the window open for coaches to do recurrency jumps. I am on my way to getting a coach rating, and I wouldn't touch those jumpers you listed with a ten-foot pole as a coach! Leave those guys for the AFFIs.
