I disagree but also don'[t really care. I have studied the aerodynamics so I can be familiar with them on solos (off of cliffs) when the time comes. I have no experience with tracking in big ways like I already admitted so obviously people like bill von will be better. I know what I have studied though is that speed will translate into more lift which will equal further horizontal distance. you will arrive at deployment altitude faster and be further from your starting point. it is the same idea behind a wingsuiter diving and then pulling into a horizontal glide. we trackers just have less lift because of our poor aerodynamic shape.
-
thats totally awesome Bill about the bigway techniques, I do not have any experience in formations larger than 10 and I kinda doubt I will ever do bigways personally. I find it hard to wrap my head around the physics but from what I understand a steeper angle of attack will result in more lift which will result in more horizontal distance. You will arrive at the location (deployment location) faster, so perhaps there are nuances like you suggest (rising above the formation) that are critical for bigway skydivers that I know nothing about (having no experience with that). for maximum horizontal separation, the physics seems to suggest a steeper track though (near 45 degree). but again thats just physics though they dont always tell the whole truth. thanks for the edumacation Bill edit PS by the way rereading your post about tracking team practice, in 20-40 ways...sounds wicked fun!!!!! I hope someday I would get to do a 40 way!!!!

The two dropzones that were the worst offenders involved the DZOs, which is unfortunate because when you are working for a boss it is hard to tell them that they are morally lacking in character unless they happen to be the Dalai Lama anyways, thats off topic, but I'd still be curious to see what the OP's race is and whether that was a factor.
-
dude, I've worked on different little piece of shit cessna dropzones for 4 years now I have specifically been told racist things about students in confidence by instructors and DZOs. As if I am racist I dont know what these people are thinking about me if they would talk shit about somebody to me behind their backs because they are black, indian (india indian) or whatever. Maybe people just take a look at you WMW and realize that you're not going to be amiable toward racist talk? Again, I dont know why somebody would say racist things to me, I'm the furthest thing from racist and I inwardly despise people for letting slip any racism.
-
I think maximum horizontal separation would occur after going briefly into a steepish (45 degree) dive for 2-3 seconds and then flattening out into a track. The dive allows speed to build up and then the track converts the downward velocity into horizontal distance. That is what I always have done and I always open far away from everybody on 4-6 way skydives. I had always found that going directly into an angle of attack that is flat has always resulted in a mushy track.

Swooping is fun when done right.
5.samadhi replied to Pablo.Moreno's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
better means...safer? longer? faster? just curious what you meant -
hey OP, out of curiosity, what is your race? I've unfortunately seen plenty of cases of racism toward students (and sexism too)

^ unleash the beast!!!!! feel the power!!!!!!

by the way, if the wingsuit appears to be going up relative to a highly loaded canopy being front risered, it doesnt mean its necessarily going up - it just means its at least going down slower ;)
-
you're not telling the whole story. Something in your behavior indicated to them that you were a serious risk. That you went to another DZ and havent burned in (yet or ever) doesnt change the fact that they could have been right in their assessment that you were a risk to them that outweighed the benefit of you being on their DZ. Let's hear your criticism you got on your previous jumps and how you responded/changed your behavior. I wouldn't worry so much about other DZOs/DZs or other instructors at different dropzones or future jumpers...I would think about yourself...you're the one plummeting to the ground at 120mph

World Wing-Suit League: Wingsuit Proximity race?
5.samadhi replied to ShcShc11's topic in Wing Suit Flying
or since its a proximity race maybe 'closer'?? -
Longer risers coupled with longer brakes?
5.samadhi replied to hokierower's topic in Gear and Rigging
can you stall the canopy with toggles all the way down? If you can then lengthening the brake lines won't matter...never need to stall the canopy on landing (believe me) so it wont take away from your "bottom end". is your lineset fairly old??? -
Swooping is fun when done right.
5.samadhi replied to Pablo.Moreno's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Deco-diver, do you think there is some inherent flaw in this approach he took? Or are you saying that this forum is hostile to swooping now in general??? Seems like he did everything everyone offers as advice: use an appropriate canopy with a not too radical wingloading, seek experienced canopy coaching, progress slowly, have others evaluate you continually with video/coaching. Am I missing something??? ps by the way my computer (piece of shit) cannot view the video so if you are referring to that, so be it...it sounds like his text is right on though. -
Wingsuit TAKEOFF from a ski slope without ramp -- possible?
5.samadhi replied to mdrejhon's topic in Wing Suit Flying
they are definitely tracking off the ski jump, you can even see the tail 'wobbles' and potato chipping on slightly botched attempts like people learning tracking. Its very similar physics. I bet if you got enough speed and could collapse the wingsuit well enough and then open it up, then you could have a very long glide. If the slope continued long enough you could touch down (here is where your gradient learning process would come into play because the touchdown would ideally be slow over the course of a good long stretch of the slope). its an exciting idea man! I have zero skiing experience and very little wingsuiting so I will sit back and watch :) -
changes that make vampire V2 better than V1?
5.samadhi replied to 5.samadhi's topic in Wing Suit Flying
OK, I will gravitate toward the V2 as my third suit then. Thanks. -
Wingsuit TAKEOFF from a ski slope without ramp -- possible?
5.samadhi replied to mdrejhon's topic in Wing Suit Flying
you wouldnt need to jettison the skis in the skydiving environment for deployment, why not just borrow techniques that skysurfers use for deployment (in a stand)? -
How To Progress The Most With The Savings I Have?
5.samadhi replied to chalko's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
why come to the US? Isnt there some badass dropzone in spain (like empuria brava???). Never been but I've heard great things from friends that travelled through. Spain weather, women, food > USA weather, women, food You do like good weather, hot women, and tapas don't you? -
changes that make vampire V2 better than V1?
5.samadhi replied to 5.samadhi's topic in Wing Suit Flying
hey, I'm thinking about the future here. I have jumps on TS intro and now I get to jump TS t-bird for awhile. Eventually I'd like to own my OWN suit and I was thinking after getting comfortable on the T-bird to get a vampire. I have the choice between two vampires, V1 and a V2...both fit good so thats not an issue... is there any feature on V2s that would make it better to get that suit compared to V1? Again, I'm not jumping into this suit soon...I'm waiting on my mentor/flying partner to OK that transition sometime later this summer maybe. peace! -
XCSOAR android app useful for GR and Audible Alti?
5.samadhi replied to 5.samadhi's topic in Wing Suit Flying
would be cool to mount it on mudflap and have a face reading altitude and also have earplugs for audible altimeter (and also GPS for glide ratio). all in one tool! Platypii keep me posted about that I would be very curious and I would test jump it (if I can afford the baro/smartphone!). -
XCSOAR android app useful for GR and Audible Alti?
5.samadhi replied to 5.samadhi's topic in Wing Suit Flying
why is 1 second not fast enough? So if you get a beep and you are actually 1 second further than when the beep was supposed to go, why not just set your altitude alarm for 100-200ft higher? Why is a fast rate better? (not a loaded question I seriously am under-educated here) -
Wingsuit TAKEOFF from a ski slope without ramp -- possible?
5.samadhi replied to mdrejhon's topic in Wing Suit Flying
I suppose when you jump out of airplanes it is driven by altruism rather than ego? haha good point I think there is a difference (I find at least personally not making a total judgment call about everybody) between ego-driven decisions and simply making decisions based on acheiving joy/bliss. but im off topic sorry! -
Wingsuit TAKEOFF from a ski slope without ramp -- possible?
5.samadhi replied to mdrejhon's topic in Wing Suit Flying
oh yes I'm quite aware of ski-base...I believe it is a step up though to do WS ski-base even that has been done though...whats left for the ego to feed on once all of these feats are accomplished? I'm sure somebody will think up even more ego-driven behavior -
XCSOAR android app useful for GR and Audible Alti?
5.samadhi replied to 5.samadhi's topic in Wing Suit Flying
will it run on an earlier version of android? This app runs on 1.6 I think. Not too sure about any of this stuff but I am in the market for both an audible altimeter, GPS (for glide ratio) AND a phone that I can use wireless internet for. I figured why not combine them ALL into one unit (if this is possible)? Is the application you are working on useful as an audible altimeter also??? -
XCSOAR android app useful for GR and Audible Alti?
5.samadhi replied to 5.samadhi's topic in Wing Suit Flying
nobody is familiar with this??? damn and here I am not tech savvy enough to understand the manual Does anybody know of any other smartphone app that can function as an audible altimeter and (preferably also) GPS glide ratio tool??? I prefer to have earphones in and have a clear announcement of every 1-2k feet altitude loss (kinda like I hear the new neptune can do). -
Wingsuit TAKEOFF from a ski slope without ramp -- possible?
5.samadhi replied to mdrejhon's topic in Wing Suit Flying
actually I'm curious how you think the angle of attack is much different from a ski jump? I was under the impression that your feet are the low point flying a wingsuit much like your feet are the low point getting air off a ski ramp. I think it would be much more doable to ski off a jump in front of a cliff and then open up the wingsuit while in mid air and start flying away. Hard still and an impressive feat! But I believe it has already been done so there's not the 'glory' though I'm sure it would get anybody going to do that
