  1. I feel you actually! I usually make 5-8 jumps a weekend depending on $ and I only made 2 today and came home at 1 oclcok and drank lemonade at home instead of sweating my ass of at the DZ!!! twas a good decision I think it hit 100!!!
  2. somebody got a *little* too close buzzing a tandem
  3. Believe me brother I feel you. Ironically wingsuits is my discipline I have chosen one reason being I can get rid of airplanes and regulation and fly in the mountains alone away from this type of control/manipulation.
  4. You don't need a diploma in skydiving to do that. And the same introduction to a job in skydiving can be had by just going to any drop zone, taking the 1st jump class, and continuing in the sport. Hand around long enough, acquire enough skills along the way, and opportunities arise. This New Zealand deal isn't any kind of special fast track program, in my opinion. The same progression can be had at any DZ, through normal jumping. That maybe true in the US and most of the world, by the NZ market is very different, and you or I don't know much about employment requirement at those dz's. rem, do you know enough about the market to make this assertion? I noticed you didn't say 'may' be different. So are the NZ dz's not set up like ours where you can just walk on and make some friends and get a job (at least packing tandem rigs and probably shooting video if you hang around enough weekends)? This person seems to talk about driving a bus at a NZ DZ as a great find of a job! So maybe it IS different huh?
  5. well you can pull your slider down all the way behind your head over the toggles while they are stowed. If you need to change heading while this is happening to avoid a canopy collision then you can use rear risers. That seems to be the most logical thing to do in my opinion, spreads the risers further apart and frees up a small amount of field of view possibly depending on how the slider is flapping. Davinci Flies, I think everybody should jump a removeable slider it is much easier and also field of view is better!
  6. what have you paid in the past for one on one coaching? No need to cite names if you dont want to, just curious about the ballpark you've spent on it.
  7. you're right (I think at least). Then, why are so many people doing handcam...its not because they love the sport (bullllllllshit) If its so taboo that a person would be threatened to not be able to get a rating because they say they would do it, then why are so many already rated TIs, DZOs, STAs, etc allowing it???? Its MONEY MONEY MONEY. The reason we all work.
  8. well as long as the risk is manageable why not add profit to your time? You can make more money working that way (its like adding 'options' if you're a building contractor and getting more money). or are you just saying the risk is unmanageable and anybody doing it is reckless? Obviously you would disagree with somebody doing it for money if that is your stance. Don't tell me folks pounding out 30 tandems in a weekend are doing it for the LOVE OF THE SPORT!
  9. why don't you want the slider down between the risers? What good does it do above your head?
  10. OP, why not just use a go-pro? What do you want that wouldnt give you.... I'm curious....
  11. ^ thats a great learning story. but people won't listen will they? Because A) more money to be made doing handcam. And B) people naturally think "that wouldn't happen to me I'm not that retarded" You are, that retarded, though. At least some have to be that retarded. I'm not near my 500 jumps to be tandem instructor but when I do I'd gladly take the extra risk of handcam for more money. Thats why you do them anyways so might as well maximize money even if there's more risk to the student and yourself.
  12. looks cool! will that be the biggest area wingsuit they sell now?
  13. I was merely sharing an opinion. If you disagree then I understand, but I'd hardly call it pissing and moaning carry on due-payers
  14. NW-FLYER: just make yearly membership fees cover licenses then it would be fine is my opinion. No need to rape more money from their members for a simple filing of paperwork.
  15. Yes, I guess you're right (i don't know what the uhhhh is for unless you need to just randomly go uhhhh). license fees have always been a waste of time. A "D" license sounds like a load of shit much like a "B" license does.
  16. love to hear what your gain in glide ratio is with the garmin!
  17. by the way I was talking about the license fee, not fees for canopy courses. License fees are the waste of money. Fees for canopy courses are understandable and I agree with you that most people are happy to pay for canopy courses (the teacher must get compensation for practicing her profession). I have never gotten a license since the "A" since there is not point to pay money for something worthless. I have never been questioned about my license at any dropzone I ever gone to. All that has been required while visiting DZs (at most) has been checking out reserve repack card. Usually nothing I just manifest for a load and get on the plane and jump with only giving my first name. I think canopy courses are a great way to spend your money. I would take another one this year...and next year...and next year......
  18. do you have a flysight? What kind of glide ratio do you get in them compared to slick?????
  19. you'd do a lot better becoming a drywall contractor at that pay!
  20. they make you take a canopy course now for your B license? Last I was trying to do it 9 years ago you just had to get some skill stuff checked off. I lost the papers that had it checked off and then got out of the sport and didnt bother ever trying to get my "B". Isn't it just a way for USPA to collect money from skydivers??? I can see if you want to be a slave on the dropzone (err I mean instructor), then it might be good to get the licenses.
