I think he was just pointing out that just because you dont think you are missing something doesnt mean you arent missing a whole lot. I bet most people that walk out in front of a bus on the street and get killed weren't thinking about missing the bus right before they got hit... maybe best solution is to ask those who jump with you and any body else who might know you as a skydiver if you are heads up enough to add another complicated piece to the equation.

problem with unsigned jumps in logbook when going for ratings?
5.samadhi replied to 5.samadhi's topic in Instructors
Thanks a lot for the responses. This will be a moot point I think for my coach rating since as somebody pointed out it is 100 jumps (I thought it was more than that?). I dont think I will be ready to take a coach course til 200 jumps anyways...that will give me some time to do some more jumps and also time to save up for money for some tunnel time which I am guessing will really accelerate my learning (never been in one!). [QUOTE] What kind of jumps did you do? If 90% of your jumps were freefly, you may not have the belly flying skills necessary. How much jumping have you done since you got back? Again, flying skills. mostly freeflying and hop and pops! My belly skills are alright though I guess for a beginner...I've never turned points really I think the most points I've got in a 2 way is maybe 4 or 5 docks/side-docks. I actually am going to focus on flying on my belly in 2 ways now. Well I have a lot of fun flying with beginners, as well I am basically back to a beginner myself with my layoff. So I am flying with other beginners and if I can have some wisdom from my knowledge from my previous 150 jumps years ago...well then that will help me and my buddy stay safe. I wouldnt consider myself anywhere near instructor status though...I do feel confident I can plan out a dive and stick with the plan and stay safe myself and remember a few things to help my friend (thats what skydiving is all about right!). I have a few years teaching college students so that doesnt hurt the one-to-one teaching conversation skills. The coach rating is basically just to extend the circle of friends I can jump with...and because I really catch a great buzz jumping with people starting out. Its a rush to be there with them on their early jumps. I don't intend on making any money on jumping with people that are beginning. Good friendship is what I seek :) Thanks again for the experienced advice. -
problem with unsigned jumps in logbook when going for ratings?
5.samadhi replied to 5.samadhi's topic in Instructors
I have just got back into skydiving recently. I would love to become a coach once I get current again since I really have enjoyed talking to the beginning jumpers since I've been back (and used to like jumping with beginners also). Well I noticed that a lot of my jumps are unsigned in my logbook and I remember not even writing some jumps in. I think it might have been cool? haha Would there be any problem getting a coach rating with 200 jumps if about 40-60 of the logged jumps are unsigned??? What about more advanced ratings such as tandem or AFF??? Just curious as there really is nothing I can do at this point. -
Do you ask packers what their experience level is before you use them? If not, I think your priorities are a little skewed. I think that it would be worse to use an inexperienced packer than a stoned experienced packer. I dont think that marijuana will cause anybody to pack you a total but I like the 'do what you're comfortable with' idea. What you and I are comfortable with may differ but we can agree if we're uncomfortable its going to make jumping an unpleasant experience.

Getting back into the sport after a 3 year break.

Getting back into the sport after a 3 year break.
5.samadhi replied to Viking's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I just did my recurrency dive except instead of 3 years I was 7 years off it was easy, just go up with an AFF instructor after watching a refresher video and talking with her about the dive flow. Basically the only way she was gonna not pass off my recurrency was if I busted the pull altitude (4.5k ) it was great being back up in the air. I'm sure you'll find it hasnt changed any and is still as fun as the other 182 skydives you made -
Base Jumpers busted in Nashville

I believe if they can show that what they were doing was repeatable, ie not a crazy stunt, then the reckless endangerment wont stick. this is how Jeb Corliss was able to defeat his NYC charges. -
that was meant as an honest compliment the internet is retarded for getting tone across

that would be quite strange - I would guess the female would not mention the orgasm since it would be very socially awkward to discuss an orgasm that occurred during a non-sexual activity. but I'm all ears for stories

looks like a conquistador *thumbs up*

I have seen some other soaring footage and watched some higher wind soaring in person and it always looks so terribly unappealing. It looks like the equivalent of trying to walk forward and having somebody hold you back with varying amounts of force but I'm glad you are having fun that is what matters

^ those are awesome!

flare too high and stall your canopy?

I got more confidence in my EPs by actually cutting away...good argument for intentional cutaways maybe -

Swooping Banned At Perris Temporarily
5.samadhi replied to jjudd's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
if only somebody would build a 1000 foot tower with a ground launch ramp then swoopers wouldnt even need airplanes i think towers like that cost like 100 grand not a bad investment. you could also sell tickets to people to base jump...might as well make it two thousand feet at that point! -
beautiful :)

Question regarding this mid-air collision
5.samadhi replied to Nealeod's topic in Safety and Training
i think thats right, it seems like two jumpers didnt track away. maybe they had a plan for two to track away and one to pull in place but it looks like one dropped low out of the formation and didnt track away and pulled and then the guy that was supposed to pull in place freefell right through him. if you drop low still track I think! -

short is OK, but if you're short and weigh not a lot...there is a temptation to get a very small canopy (it is afterall the same wingloading as your 200lb friend!). However, small canopies have shorter lines and the turns are more aggressive because of this...they dont scale linearly. So you may need to be more conservative with wingloading compared to larger friends with similar jump numbers.

well thanks man! Im gonna go straight to frame-sight when I start shooting video. It looks phenomenally better.

thank you for the information so far. Really Good! That helps narrow my search down. I have not even begun to talk with wingsuiters about the possibility down the road of training/learning this discipline...I've only really looked at a few wingsuits in person...the phoenixfly suits look really great though.
