Not niplboy. Not even "not niplboy". (>o|-< If you don't believe me, ask me.

1963 - I wasn't born yet. My father was at Royal Military College in Kingston, Ontario, which is ... 1986 ... where I was. I remember coming into the 1 squadron bldg (Stone Frigate) after lunch and before afternoon classes, and being invited downstairs to the lounge - highly unusual for First Years - and seeing the replay over and over. Didn't have much time to dwell - had to get to class. 9/11/2001 - I was still in bed since I had been up late working the night before. Steph worked at SFO at the time, which like every other airport in the US was in the process of implementing SCATANA. She called and said to turn on the TV. When I drove into work, the South Bay freeways were practically empty. (>o|-< If you don't believe me, ask me.

This should be required reading for everybody cleared for self supervision or higher, including fun jumpers, instructors, S&TAs, and skygods (self-proclaimed or otherwise). Thanks for taking the time.

6 years, and still she touches many. I still have Shannon stickers and a few patches if anybody wants some. (>o|-< If you don't believe me, ask me.

I just got the BA ad too. There wasn't even a X to kill it with. In fact, after the video ended it wouldn't go away, no obvious way to kill it. I ended up closing the browser (Chrome) and starting again. (>o|-< If you don't believe me, ask me.

Nothing cliche about that at all. Excellent attitude. (>o|-< If you don't believe me, ask me. -
Second Tandem or AFF?
TitaniumLegs replied to genericusername's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
A few things come to mind: 1. As others have said, this happens everywhere to some degree or other, and not just in this sport. Ski instructors, golf and tennis "pros", surf "instructors" and on and on are notorious. It's almost like lawyers in that 90% give the other 10% a bad reputation. That isn't to imply it's acceptable in modern civilized society - just how it is when you're programmed to reproduce. 2. Going to another local DZ does not guarantee avoidance of the offending instructor since many instructors are also migratory. 3. As for tandem or AFF for your next jump, I'll answer that that same way as I do for a first jump: Do you intend to make a regular habit of it? If yes, especially in your case, skip the tandem. 4. This has also been stated, but I don't believe adequately stressed: Your training must have your undivided attention. You can not be distracted during training, especially the first jump course. You could easily miss details that will get you hurt or killed. Don't be in a rush to meet a guy at the DZ. There are lots of guys. Take your time and focus on your training progression. By the time you get to the A-license level, you should have a good feel (pun totally intended ;-) for who is the least slimy of the slimebag instructors and steal him from whatever DZ ho he's currently shagging. OK, I couldn't quite keep a straight face on that last sentence, but the first 3 sentences are solid. (>o|-< If you don't believe me, ask me. -
Awesome, thanks. (>o|-< If you don't believe me, ask me.

Reset button is on the back next to the battery. I'm talking about the white bump visible in both pictures I linked above. (>o|-< If you don't believe me, ask me.
-
OK, so what's that little white bump on the side in both of these pictures (Viso 2, not original Viso)? http://www.l-and-b.dk/products/visual/viso_ii http://www.dropzone.com/gear/Detailed/619.html (>o|-< If you don't believe me, ask me.
-
Easy solution: Cover both helmets with tinfoil. Keeps the government mind control off your back at least for the skydive. (>o|-< If you don't believe me, ask me.
-
So, I ordered a Viso 2, and what showed up was a Viso (1). I've been searching for a comparison of the two, both here (using search and scrolling through page after page of this forum) and on L+B's site. Finally resorted to downloading and comparing both manuals. As far as I can tell: - Viso2 has a "Daily Jump Counter" that "Displays number of jumps completed on last date and/or 9 other jump dates." - Odd looking button or LED on the edge that isn't defined in the manual. Does anybody know of a definitive comparison or other details I didn't find? Should I bug the dealer to swap it? Thanks! (>o|-< If you don't believe me, ask me.

Why is there no "like" button on DZ.com? (>o|-< If you don't believe me, ask me.

Ditto. All the FAA guys I've dealt with have been extremely helpful. Generally nicer people than some airport managers, and even a few DZOs. (>o|-< If you don't believe me, ask me.

Why this student didn't deploy... the rest of the story
TitaniumLegs replied to GLIDEANGLE's topic in Instructors
Student should check with his doctor and make absolutely certain this won't happen again. Should seriously reconsider future involvement in the sport. DZ needs to consider risk and liability of allowing a student with known and demonstrated shoulder issue to continue jumping. Student needs to remember EPs: If unable to deploy main after 2-3 attempts, deploy the reserve. You can use the other hand for that. I saw it once on B-C licensed jumper. Shoulder dislocated on exit or soon after. Deployed her reserve at pull time. Landed a little hard but was otherwise fine. Oh, and: Pull Pull on time / before assigned altitude Pull stable (>o|-< If you don't believe me, ask me. -
This should be required viewing for all TI candidates just like the side spin vids. (>o|-< If you don't believe me, ask me.

What exactly does this mean ? The poster posted a list of Tandems made with the Student not wearing an Altimeter. The USPA BOD voted to no longer require an Altimeter be worn or even visible for the Student. Essentially giving in to the "Tandem Mills" desire to "Hang Meat" and "make Bank", while not Instructing. That make Tandem Jumps, in the USPA realm, carnival rides and not Instructional. Matt My two manufacturer tandem manuals, which predate the FAA legalization of tandem and the USPA tandem rating, both explicitly state the student altimeter is optional on the first jump, and says they "should start to use an altimeter [on the second jump] if not already doing so" and that "use of the altimeter can begin on the first or second jump". A copy of the 1988 SIM BSRs that fell through a freak wormhole states the only jumpers required to wear an altimeter were AFF students and J/Ms. So, the manufacturers didn't require student altimeters. USPA didn't require them (assumption on my part for before AFF was approved by USPA), then added them for AFF, then for all students, then removed it for tandem students. Doesn't seem to support the argument that USPA is giving in to tandem mills. Rather, it seems to me that many tandem "students" would rather focus more on the view than on the altimeter. Unless you spend significant time doing dive flow, many aren't going to remember to check it anyway. As a TI, I always offered it as part of progression when I knew it was the student's second or later jump. (>o|-< If you don't believe me, ask me.

When does a Tourist become a skydiver?
TitaniumLegs replied to Rogersmoke's topic in Safety and Training
Skydiving is exactly like high school - you've got the nerds, the jocks, the cool kinds, the stoners, the class clowns, the go-getters, the suck-ups ..." The BreakfastSkydive Club. (>o|-< If you don't believe me, ask me. -
Now at Costco for $179.99. - Camera - Case - Mounts - LCD display - Remote - Cables - Power adapter / charger - 4GB microSD Manual from the Swann site Some features I like - Standard tripod hole instead of the proprietary thing like GoPro - Laser - HDMI built-in GoPro offers more options like 3D, and seems to have more recording modes especially 2x and 4x (HD Hero2) frame rates. Fundraiser - Shaving my head for children's cancer research
TitaniumLegs replied to TitaniumLegs's topic in The Bonfire
There will be video of head shavings, but we'll have to find another venue for ass shaving due to it being our work cafeteria and the presence of children! (>o|-< If you don't believe me, ask me. -

Fundraiser - Shaving my head for children's cancer research
TitaniumLegs replied to TitaniumLegs's topic in The Bonfire
Hey friends, help me out. No, I'm not stuck in a foreign country, but I do want your money - tax deductible of course - to support children's cancer research. My co-workers are doing our annual event to support St Baldrick's, a legit 501c3 charity that is the biggest funder of children's cancer research other than the US government. Over 70 of us are shaving and we're aiming to raise $225,000 at our site. How cool would it be for you to be part of that! I'm shaving my head, so really you have the easy part! I'm way behind where I want to be and what I pulled in the last two years. Please please please help! http://www.stbaldricks.org/participants/peterl Cancer sucks. Cancer in kids really sucks. For those wondering, I had asked permission to post this last year, and Meso said that it is within the guidelines for a reasonable request. Thanks for your time and support!
