What exactly is a scramble? Not so sure I get it.

Thanks Remster that is kind of what I'm looking for. I Like accuracy...but to be honest it will be a big challenge for me!

Thats sounds like fun... Thanks missbrz.

Is there a way for young 'A' license skydivers to compete? I was hoping to find competition that would be a learning experience/competition. Where a young jumper can learn to have fun, compete and be supervised in the process. I was hoping to hear that there may be a amateur competition that was geared with a learning curve or something close anyhow. As to what discipline, obviously not swooping (tame the flame), but maybe accuracy or some rw stuff. Also, I searched and everything I found is outdated and probably not around anymore.

Did you see that music documentary with Jack White, Jimmy Page and Edge? Edge was so out of his league it was painful to watch. Sorry, I can't remember the title off hand.

"Bigger Stronger Faster" is a very well done documentary about steroids and our culture. I have yet to hear a negative comment on this documentary. By far my favorite documentary. "Dear Zachary: A Letter to a son about his father" is a powerful documentary about a woman who killed her husband and then won custody of the child they had. It is crazy how she fell through the cracks and managed to come out clean - another must watch. When I was in college I roomed with a film student and I was exposed to hundreds of documentarys and these two, in my opinion are the top two.

236 years! Happy Birthday Lethernecks. Time sure does go by fast. When I enlisted, my first Marine Corp Birthday/Ball was 224.

In DC and southern Maryland nobody understands the concept of the passing lane and that pisses me off to no end. Everyone drives in the left lane at the same speed or even slower speed than the cars in the right lanes. I am going to go to jail one day for ripping sombody's legs off. One more gripe would be when there is an accident on the other side of the highway and I end up sitting traffic due to rubber neckers.

Hard opening. She's not very big and very flexible. Her legs flew up, her butt slid out with her torso following. Pretty scary. She's not the only person that has had that happen, but some people still think it's not possible. Crazy. I am glad she was able to get back in the harness. I can see it possible, on one of my deployments I remember my feet being head level. I think I pitched down when I reached for the BOC and it whipped me to the position (folded at the waist with my feet in my face). I however was no where near coming out of the harness but I can see plausible.

If you do not mind could you elaborate what may have put her in that position ie. sitfly..hard opening? Thanks

Tough guy.. I know, and I am constantly reminded I know very little. I keep my mouth shut at the DZ and listen and do what I am told. Your assumption that I am "that guy" is ridiculous.

As for not having permission to wear one - I believe you are correct. As for the hazard may go away - Right now I am using a "one size fits no one". I was hoping a rig designed for me may help a bit. Also, the handle that is hard to see is a cloth cut a way. The stainless d-ring sticks out a little further and is easier to spot. When the time comes to buy a rig I may use a different cut a way handle. All i am saying is if I could see better, I would like to have the added protection. Why would you knock that?
-
I can't wait to buy one but right now I don't want anything between my handles and my eyes. My handles seem to be hard to see when in an arch. Using an open face is just one way for me to rule out a variable that may put me at a disadvantage when doing EPs. It's not the clear lens but rather the chin portion that may cause a problem when I go to look for the handles.

Did I just do an accelerated Stall?

Im not to sure what you mean or are stating. The AFF program is a good one but it is only what you make out of it. I think the AFF is only a part of the learning experience; the other part is up to you to throw yourself in the culture, spend days at the DZ and absorb all the knowledge you can. I bet if you stuck around after hrs you would get all the answers you wanted about wind, turbulence or as in the OP case self induced line twists, free of charge too. -
[Reply]Motrin being the Marine Corps solution to literally EVERY medical problem Yep, Mortrin and changing your socks will fix any medical problem in the Marine Corp.

I believe I have heard this referred to as "active toggle" inputs. -
How many have broken a bone and jumped again after healing?
jhh166 replied to SCOTT735's topic in Safety and Training
The worst part of a injury for me is ending on a bad note. This whole week it has been eating me alive knowing I made some mistakes and it will be some time before I can try it again. That to me is worse than injury! -
You can always talk to the fire department. We would use scare tactics for some parents who brought their kids by the fire house. If need be some more extreme than others. Most of the time a few horrific stories work well enough to see them change their attitude. Add a few pictures to those stories and only sociopaths would feel no remorse. It is tough reaching through to that age group they tend to have that 'you are over reacting' mentality. I am glad to hear nobody was hurt.

Thanks Gents.

I have never been to a skydiving expo but have been doing some reading on the websites and have a few questions. Will the booths have a lot of gear on hand or will they just have demos and if you buy, it will be manufactured and mailed to you? Long story short - Can I go down there and leave with a complete rig in hand? Any info on how the expo works would be cool. I was thinking why spend money on airfare and lodging to have it mailed back home. when I could have done that on the internet and saved the travel money?

You can even find a free app on the android market place. I recommend the book though.

I hurt my ankle this sat on a botched pavement landing and thought it was just a bad sprain. I stood around the hanger waiting for the rig to get packed so I could get on the manifest and noticed the swelling was ridiculous, a few minutes later I could not articulate it. I decided to get it looked at and found out the damage - Torn anterior talofibular ligament and two fractures. I plan on evaluating it with the Ortho and maybe jumping in four weeks.
