I am directly across the river from Quantico in Indian Head, MD with the USMC - Chemical Biological Incident Response Force. I have managed to get a couple young Marines involved in the ISP and they have been making a few jumps here and there. Not sure if there is any room for students or what your goals are. I can pass the word along if you like? Also, in a post prior you mentioned no riggers at a certain location. If any of the Marines need some simple inspections, assemblies, repacks - I can help out with that, I enjoy taking care of our own, within reason because this unit keeps me extremely busy. Deisel, are you in the global? Do you plan on starting a distribution list?

US DZs over 2013 Christmas / New Year Holiday Period
jhh166 replied to Mac's topic in Events & Places to Jump
I think lake wales has the collegiate nationals 12-27 through 1-2. -
Whats the point of this thread? No disrespect intended, I just do not see the downside to staying current by jumping with experience rather than students. My best critiques have came from experienced instructors not students.

Agreed, the DZ's I have visited are tame compared to the platoon of Marines I work with. Not saying right or wrong - just that men will act like men, some more desperate than others.

What are you trying to achieve by posting a date? 1. Humour? 2. To scare Ledballoon into buying a Sabre2 170? 3. To let everyone know you're a cool skydiver with knowledge about a secret game? Fail x 3. Bounce bingo is not big and it's not clever. It's a douchey affectation like spelling skills with a "z". +1

Canopy Manufacturers' Role in Rapid Downsizing
jhh166 replied to NWFlyer's topic in Safety and Training
You can still buy one, but insurance will be insane. And the very, very big difference between cars and bikes vs canopies is that you can drive a Ferrari slowly. You can't fly a canopy loaded above 1.5 or so slowly. I always goes fast. I do agree that there is a big difference in the analogies and I mentioned that in my post. As for the insurance....we are now talking about a third party policing for experience and personal liability, not the manufacture and that was my point. -
Canopy Manufacturers' Role in Rapid Downsizing
jhh166 replied to NWFlyer's topic in Safety and Training
Vehicular analogies do not work well for highly loaded canopies. A fast car or motorcycle can be driven slowly. Full flight (as recommended for landing) is going to be fast on these wings regardless of what you do. A braked approach is a possibility but that just makes getting a good landing even more tricky. All very true. -
Canopy Manufacturers' Role in Rapid Downsizing
jhh166 replied to NWFlyer's topic in Safety and Training
Agreed, why is it we hold the DZO resposible for all other saftey violations? On a side note... The sponsorship was with Icarus, not a Neos, they could have been jumping satfires, crossfires ect and still representing the company. I doubt Icarus said they had to jump a Neos. I am not saying they did not know he was flying one, but I bet they would have had no issue if he wanted to fly 169 crossfire or what ever.... I am not taking a side here. I just think that the manufacture is so distant from the DZ that is is not in their bubble to keep track of who is flying what. I cant even think of a comparable. Fast car manufactures are not selling with discrimination, motorcycles are not sold with discrimination, guns are not sold by how many rounds you have fired in your life. -
Canopy Manufacturers' Role in Rapid Downsizing
jhh166 replied to NWFlyer's topic in Safety and Training
I do not think it is the manufactures (or dealers) responsibility to police skydivers and their choices. I know this its a stretch but what if someone wants to collect or invest in a few canopies to sell? They should have a right to do so regardless of jump numbers. If a manufacture wants to police skydivers, good on them but by no means is it their duty to do so. -
A first look at a no pull cypres save

Can someone please post the source link to liam's accident. I can not view deepseeds webpage from a work computer? Is there a youtube link? -
or worse, when two drivers will drive side-by-side on a 4-lane highway for miles - thus clogging the road for everyone. This seems indigenous to the US east coast and worsens the further south you go. +1...If you are not passing in the left lane move over! The DC area and Southern MD residents have no concept of the passing lane.

I have a possible illegitimate fear - has a cutter on the top ever failed to cut the loop and pinch the loop therefore trapping the pilot chute and leaving the reserve ripcord rendered useless? Has this ever happened? I must have gotten the idea from somewhere I admit it may be a stretch but it is enough to keep me from buying a container with the cutter placement on top of the rpc..

Question regarding veterans and respect for them
jhh166 replied to Deimian's topic in Speakers Corner
Quote Enrolling in a job that doesn't require anything besides being physically healthy enough to go to kill people in other countries that are thousands of miles away is really a reason to be proud of. Quote Do you really think this is all the Military is concerned about and the only skills required? 98% of my time is spent training, advising and developing response plans for when somebody brings a WMD into our back yard. Weeks at a time we train in some of the most lethal chemical, biological and radioactive environments and I will tell you that it takes a lot of knowledge, skill (and not to mention heart) to pull it off safely. What about my time dealing with the Anthrax in Senator Daschle's office and the other mail facilities... or the Ricin a year later? I can assure you it was not done with a bunch of brainless physically fit Marines. Your post is an ignorant assumption. -
Do we have a collective website? Does anyone have a solid way to stay on top of SB's? I have no issue checking the websites before I repack but would always like to stay on top of them is all. I just wanted to hear others perspective on how to make sure you are not missing service bulletins, especially packing a rig several years old when its not in your face kinda knowledge. Thanks gents..

As a prior Active Duty Marine, I now teach consequence management-CBRNE for a Marine Corp Battalion and I am also part of their Training Advisory Group as a government contractor. In summary I teach Marines how to respond to Weapons of Mass Destruction or other mass casualty events. I think this is the only job where one minute I am on the podium, the next on a repel tower teaching high angle rope and then designing national level training events. Stressful at times but very rewarding and I could never imagine working in a cubicle or in a work environment with civilians (I would be fired in days due to lack of tact) I would rather suck start a 9mm pistol.

You did and sorry I must have over looked that .. I have many flaws!

Another way I look at it is a reminder and a way to keep myself in check; If it can happen to others out there it can happen to me. An honest self evaluation with comparative optimism in mind may be the anwser...just a thought.

Maybe some people are capable of learning from other people's mistakes. Very true!

I like what she said as well. I am talking about people who make statements that sound like the following: This is why I take my time to pack properly... (assumption that others did not). Just an example - there are 100's of others.

Fair enough and good point.

is the phenomena of humans believing themselves less likely than their peers to experience an undesirable event. (Matt Gerdes, TGBOB) I do not have many strengths but I do believe I give my self honest self-evaluations and find myself guilty of this once and awhile. I do try to avoid it at all costs. Any one else occasionally guilty? I believe this to be the reason for most of the finger pointing in the incidents forum. It seems like it is human nature to find an excuse why it happened to someone else and will not happen to you. I am sure we all agree this is a horrible attitude, but it almost feels like it's a natural process to justify a reason how it can not happen to you and I think this directly correlates with judging the person to which it happened to in a negative manner. I hope everyone has a great weekend. R/S, John

Bull Sh**, American males are cocky in nature and can be beaten for days when interrogated. Yet when raped will talk in minutes. It is a general rule of thumb to do what ever you can to not give up any intelligence for 24 hrs so ground forces can shift or adjust accordingly and anticipate you will eventually crack. So they do some nasty stuff to get you to talk ASAP.. When doing our work up for the initial push in 2002/2003 we were briefed daily on torture tactics common in the middle east and believe it or not (male on male) rape and sodomy were documented and discussed. On the other side, you would hear about Americas horrible torture tactics when in reality they would talk all day for a can of Pepsi.

Has to be the best investment I have made in my short skydiving career. All the instructors were extremely knowledgeable, patient and always helped out when needed. I cant say enough good things about the course and instructors. Dave, Bob M, Mark L, Mark N, Rags, Bill H, Nate, Sean.. I hope someday to know half of what these guys know. Also, Performance Designs sent Rags up to Pennsylvania free of charge to teach us how to sew patches and I could not be more grateful. What a way to give back!! Rags really hooked us up with a solid technique for sewing patches and I was impressed how well our patches turned out. We learned so much, honestly within an hr we were sewing pretty dam good patches. We also recieved free scissors from Precision. That was nice to knock off 25 dollars from the tools. Not to mention we used those scissors many times everyday and they still work great. Once again thanks Dave! One last comment - Handsome Dave has to be the nicest guy I ever met. He worked hard to make sure we were catered to and recieved anything we needed. It was obvious it was not about making money but rather teaching us the best they could.
