Any experience with the Oakley wind-jackets. Are they "wind-resistant" enough for skydiving with open-face helmets?
-
Troll? If not: I got my A-license last autumn. Always on the ride to altitude the nerves get to me. I hate to pretend being calm, but unless you cant control yourself nobody think bad of the nervous person (rather the opposite). Once you progress through AFF and make solo exits you will be amazed by how fantastic it is to float on the relative wind. Do not rush to be like the experienced jumpers, they are way beyond your level. Take advantage of the "protection" given by your instructors. Do not force away the nerves, rather learn how to gradually cope with them

Pulse 210 and Optimum 193.

I have done both with some years between them. First was SL. Compared to instructors I am not qualified to have an opinion about wether one method is better than the other. The questions: Do you prefer the first jump to be a 50 seconds of free fall with 2 instructors at your side or do you prefer it to be a 5 second long intensive arch with a line pulling your cord? Personally I prefer AFF. But the best advice I would like to share is listen carefully to your instructors. What they say is for a reason Have a nice jump

In my opinion the best advices are: 1) Do NOT read too much before the course. 2) Spend some time in a wind-tunnel. 3) Save/earn money.

Still so much to learn. Thats why it is so fun

What is the hardest plane to jump out of for AFF?
Olmed replied to Amyr's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Its obviously something going on between you and flying-machines.. The problem I had with chest-arching is that I ended up in a spin with legs floating unstable behind me. It took some video and the experienced eye of an instructor to figure out the problem. Push pelvis and everything falls in its right place -

Arch the hips and not the chest...find a cloud, airplane or an instructor to fixate your eyes on. Thats what solved it for me. What you exit from, with or without relative wind matters less once you trust your ability to arch. I find it hard to believe that you had a plane stalk you, especially in the wind tunnel, I think this must be your imagination..ay?? ;) -
Not sure if I am yet comfortable doing a dive from low altitude... The first dive from 12000 feet was much easier than anticipated. To look back at the plane from an "weird" angle and then get stable was a real boost of confidence.

This reading motivates for learning. I will be jumping in Arizona as a visitor for the first time next year.

I jumped a Silhoutte in Deland, it was lots of fun, the turns were very snappy. I ordered a a pulse as well because the low pack volume allows me to keep my same container longer. I get mine next week, hopefully the pulse will be just as fun. Good to hear also others who considered a Silhouette. I am still not convinced that Pulse is a better choice, especially do I suspect that Silhouette offers more consistent on-heading openings. But packing was also important for my decision. I hope to be proven wrong once I get to jump the Pulse. Those I know who jump Pulse seem very comfortable with it.

While doing research I really felt the Silhouette was what I am looking for but instead ended up ordering a Pulse. I imagine both are good choices for a beginner but still wait to experience it myself..

I will go for a Skyhook. After doing more research I have not found a logic reason for not using it.

I start to have a feeling I would be safer with "just" the original RSL...
-
I have just ordered a Vector 3 with a Pulse 210. I am about 230 out the door.. My 26th jump will be on this rig..
-
I am just off my A-sertificate and just ordered a new Vector with skyhook. I believe in the skyhook system..but if any concern it is about the potential "human factor". So far I have jumped student rigs with traditional RSL and felt very comfortable with that. Is it common that a rigger does not have enough knowledge about the skyhook system? And is the skyhook a very fragile system?

Sounds like you are even more bored than I am...Blue skies!

Short Video on Working with Fear by Brian Germain

Is it possible that positive visualization can make others perceive you as not nervous before and during jumps? If thats the case...could this "calmness" give the false impression that you are not aware of the situation and infected with the DG-syndrome?? (Despite the fact that you are 100% focused on what you are about to perform even if you not necessary let ALL the impressions from your senses give growth to fear and possible negative outcomes?). -

I have already learned that my instructors say what they do for a reason! It is my most important lesson so far.. Best regards R -

I am 38 and just took up skydiving again...23 jumps so far this summer.. Read your book "The parachute and its pilot"..and noticed the term "DG" or "dead guy"... How do you draw the line between being the DG and being in a state where you deal with fear/nervousness by visualizing the positive outcome instead of everything that could go bad? Thanks for a great book and also an interesting video. -
You MAY only be in it for a short time. While I agree with the rest of what you said, I'm also a believer that setting up the "you must downsize" is probably contributing, at least slightly, to people being on wings that are too small for them. Some of us are still jumping the same container we bought when we started jumping. I fit a Spectre 230 and a Pilot 210 into it for the first 500 jumps ... now I have the Pulse 210 in there which packs much more happily. This container likes a 190, and could take most 170s as well. So ... the right first container might last a long time, depending on the person's body type, skills, and interest in downsizing. All that said, I lucked out and got a sweet deal on a used container that fits me pretty well and had only 10 jumps on it. I'm a believer in used for most people (unless of course they're real outliers on body type, then new/custom ends up being the only viable option). Hei
