  1. my DZ might not be the cheapest, but we do pretty well. We were $14 for 10,000' until a few weeks ago, but now we're $15. cavete terrae.
  2. I told you about my friend's little sister, if memory serves. I'm not sure if I mentioned she had no idea what she was doing cavete terrae.

  7. I feel your pain, bro. I haven't jumped since the last day of the Holiday Boogie @ Eloy (2 January). I'm leaving for the DZ right after the gold medal hockey game is over, though. Hopefully I'll get 2 or 3! cavete terrae.
  8. You have no idea how jealous that makes me. I haven't jumped since the last day of the boogie Should be back in the air in about six hours though! cavete terrae.
  9. One of my friends is in sort of a similar boat, I suspect. He was always eager to come to the DZ, until he had a jump go somewhat.. not well. His first clear and pull off the SL, he pulled on his back, PC went between his legs, and flipped him through the risers. It threw off his mental state enough so that he downwinded into the corn... Insofar as I know, he hasn't been back to the DZ since. I think he's still interested, but just needs to find the right motivation. cavete terrae.
  10. It's a variation on a theme! Technically I've only done it this way once cavete terrae.

  15. My dropzone needs you. Apply via PM! cavete terrae.
  16. It's right out near the mall, popular place to sled when there's snow. Can't decide if it's steep or long enough for a ground launch (even a short one), so I figured I'd ask the experts. http://spiceweasel.net/bottomview.jpg http://spiceweasel.net/topview.jpg cavete terrae.
  17. one of these two at the moment: Breaking Benjamin - So Cold or Moby - When It's Cold I Like To Die But seriously, screw midwestern weather. I need to get another dozen jumps before I can take our coaching course in April. cavete terrae.
  18. This is one of the reasons I'm planning on getting my coach rating in April. My DZ is pretty tiny, and it can be sort of a pain to try and find enough 2 instructors to go on a load to jump with two students who are on freefall. I'd love to be able to be able to help when someone's in a situation like I found myself in quite a bit: Three students on the DZ wanting to work on their jumps, but only one instructor. Sure, I can't teach someone the fine points of a head down foot dock, but if someone just needs somebody to jump with 'em and verify they're turning 90 degrees one way, and then back to heading, or need someoen to dock on? Why not be that guy? EDIT: and no, I wouldn't be charging. I typically jump solo at my DZ anyway because only a few ppeople have any real interest in freeflying. Might as well go jump with somebody who needs help. cavete terrae.
  19. Well, like I said, my vision is actually decent. There've been plenty of times where I've thrown away a pair of contacts after taking 'em without checking to see if I have a new pair. No problems going a few days without 'em until I have time to go to the store and get new ones. I figure if I'm gonna try it, I'll wait until I'm about to take out and dispose of a pair anyway, toward the end of the month. Then if they come out in freefall, well, no big deal. cavete terrae.
  20. A hint from your neighbourhood grue: If you get one of those emergency eye-washer bottles, you can fill it with contact solution and fill the cup-thing for your eye, and just hold your eye in there for 5-6 seconds, then your contact will come out very easily. cavete terrae.
  21. That took me forever, and I still prefer to use a mirror because I've got small eyes The 30-day continuous wear lenses are a godsend, just to let you guys all know I take out my contacts on the 2nd to last day of a given month, then put in a fresh pair on the first of the month. GLORIOUS. I think I'm gonna get intralasik for my 25th birthday, though. I hate not being able to wear sunglasses instead of goggles when I jump. I'm kinda tempted to try it on a day when I was gonna chuck a pair of contacts anyway, since my prescription is weak enough so I can still land safely without 'em if it doesn't work cavete terrae.
  22. Do you mean to say you killed a man, by using a trident on him, or you killed a man who was using a trident himself My trident, his death! cavete terrae.
