Thanks Guys, I did some more detailed googling and found something callled "Light Track". I'll let you know if it still exists. Itès supposed tp work with both pro track and pro dytter.
-
I thought I saw somewhere an altitude warning light that attaches to a protrack or prodytter? I have searched through Paragear and haven't been able to locate one. I also checked with Larsen & Brusgard, and they don't have one. Thanks, Ross

Thanks... that thread is really good for info on the digital..

I am considering replacing my really old 35mm camera and want to make sure that if sometime in the future I want to use it for skydiving that it will be suitable. Does anyone have any opinions on durability in 35mm or quality/price of a good digital. My concern with digital is how fast it will take each frame? and how good the quality is compared to 35mm. Any thoughts would be much appreciated. I am shooting skydiving video now, and probably won't consider stills for another year or so, but I will be looking for a still camera this summer. thanks, Ross

I have been messing around with it since I downloaded 3.0.2... the first release sucked so bad I sent a really nasty e-mail to Apple.. I'm sure like many others, but the new release seems a bit better. I'm running a 17" 800Mz iMac with superdrive. iMovie is much more stable (although still pretty slow). I burned an hour long video (2 movies from imovie, a few menus and some stills). This time I let iDVD finish encoding the movies before I tried to burn them to DVD... I think that may have resolved the problem with the audio getting out of sync. End result was a very nice finished DVD of the year with the kids, and our skydiving adventures. Still hoping they will release a performance patch for both iMovie and iDVD. Ross

It finally ended... and what a mess.. it dropped the audio track completely, but after messing around with it again, I think it may have been my doing.. Also, it moved the audio, that used to be part of the video, so it no longer syncs up.. quite entertaining, and just a little annoying.. I still find the whole suite pretty buggy.. oh, well.. just have to wait for an update..

I just bought the iLife suite, and the only thing I have to say is, holy smokes is it slow! I am running an 800 mz imac with 512 MB of RAM. iMovie 2 was pretty quick, as was iDVD 2. The new crop is painfully slow, however, it has lots of really cool features.. I had a little trouble learning how to do things again, but the chaptering features are really nice. I have found it pretty buggy. I can't replace titles made in iMovie2, and the timeline doesn't seem to line up with the display. However, when I put in chapter markers according to where the preview told me they should go, it seemed to be accurate. I am in the middle of burning a 1hour long DVD and it seems to be stalled at 42 minutes to go.... I'll let you know how it goes...

Mel Famie was the most famous baseball pitcher in the league, but as he got older, he started to drink a bit. One very hot day, his team was playing in the world series, the score tied, going into the bottom of the 9th inning. The manager decides to put Mel Famie in to get them through the inning and into the 10th.. Mel walks the first batter, and then the second. The manger asks him what he is doing, He replies, just setting up a triple play, so the manager lets him continue. Mel the walks the 3rd batter. Again the manager stops the play and asks Mel to explain.. I will make it dramatic with a triple play at home plate. The manager says ok, and play resumes. Mel throws ball1, ball2, strike 1, ball3, strike 2... Mel then winds up for a mighty fastball, and a beer can falls out of his pocket, startling him, and he throws the ball into the stands.. walking in the winning run.. dejected he walks off the mound. the two opposing players, walking off the field notice the beer can.. One says "what's that?" the other says... are you ready?... the other says " That's the beer that made Mel Famie Walk us!" ow that hurts..

I'm another die-hard PC guy, who bought a mac last year to do vieo editting and it's the smartest thing I could have done. The software that comes standard on the mac will do all the video ediitting you you want for basic skydiving stuff, and if you really want to use premiere, the mac version is the same as the pc version... exept that the machine won't crash every 5 hours! my 0.02....

Have you ever gotten ripped off buying used gear online?
rredman replied to Kirils's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I bought my first canopy from a guy down in the states (I am from Canada), and he shipped it up to me to check out before he had seen a nickle from me! It checked out fine and I sent him a U.S. money order right away... nice when people trust each other and it works out... Thanks Randy, it makes you think the human race has a chance.. btw, I still have never met Randy face to face, but if I ever do, I'll buy him a beer! -
Which camera would you prefer on your head ?

Mac video editing and projection question
rredman replied to Newbie's topic in Photography and Video
I couldn't agree more.. mac is the way to go and the eMac is a great little machine. And the software that comes with it will have you editting video in not time. I had never used a mac before I bought my eMac, and it took me 3 hours from opening the box, to my first finished movie. But, do yourself a favor and wait till next week to buy it.. ilife will then be included with it ... all new versions of imovie, itunes, idvd and iphoto (it'l save ya $50 US). -
Even with the manual I was struggling getting past the overwhelming complexity of the program (having only used imovie before). This freebie rocks! step by step instructions (although sort of backwards putting the "how to capture video from a DV cam" at the end), but really simple instructions (with pictures!)

Thanks, According to that I am left eye dominant, and right handed.. I guess I'm just a weird as Brad!
-
Maybe a silly question, but before I mount my ringsite, how do I determine my dominant eye? Thanks, Ross

IAD... I thought that was the only way! 248 jumps later and still happy.. I remember freakin on my first terminal jump, and dumped at 5,000 ft, caught in a crosswind and flew backwards to the other side of the highway! 1st off-airport (beer for sure!)

i finally packed my first pack job
rredman replied to Newbie's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
You need to be able to pack to get your A in Canada too ,it used to be for a B, but they just changed the rules.. anyway, I like to pack my own... I'll pack a buddies if he/she is busy with a student or something... -
Whatever you do, don't move to Canada! -35 windchill right now! well below freakin' cold!
-
I couldn't agree more. The old imovie and idvd were great, and this new suite looks even better! I can't wait for it to come out.. btw, I burn DVDs and play them on my 2 year old panasonic and they work fine.. but then, they are "slightly ahead of their time!"
-
yup, avoid frustration, get a mac! I bought an e-mac last september, and the time from cutting the tape on the box till my first finished video (although still a little rough) was 3 hours... and I had never used a mac before. I was a proud PC dude... notice I said "was".

Me too eh? Instructor/Coach at Mile High Parachuting in Arnprior, and Visit Gan quite a bit during the summer too.. oh and I like the Ranch, and heading down to Crosskeys this summer for a week!.. Can't stay away from turbines!! Maybe Burnaby sometime over the summer too! it'd be cool to have a bunch of Canucks down at crosskeys for the July 4th Boogie... last year they jumped onto the beach (I hear, cuz I wasn't there), and hoping for the same this year.. fly fast, take chances! Yeah I know. I've been looking at al the specs too. I've go a g4 emac with 60GB (that is almost full) and 1GB or RAM. It works great, and to be honest, I am leaning towards the powerbook.
-
Thanks Tom, I'm trying to decide between the iBook and the new 12" Powerbook. I'm not sure it is worth the extra 500 or so to get the g4 instead of the g3.
-
I was wondering if anyone out there is using an iBook for doing video editting with imovie, and if so, do you find the performance good enough?
-
What does everyone use for DV capture and editing?
rredman replied to konradptr's topic in Photography and Video
I have an emac with a GB of RAM and use i-movie to capture/edit and can put it out on DVD or back through the camera to a VCR. I have a Sony PC9.
