I have an alternative plan to that congressional spending proposal. I say we offer every congressman $1 million if they'll sign a contract agreeing not to raise government spending during the remainder of their term. Violation of the contract would result in forfeiture of their personal assets to re-pay the $1 million. That would cost us only about half a billion dollars, which is a bargain compared to what they're going to do left unchecked. All we need is for a majority of them to go for the bait. We could get off as cheap as a quarter billion - mere peanuts! It only SOUNDS good. Those guys already get more than that to spend as much as they can. Are compaign contributions really "free speach" or are they bribes. When they come from special interests or outside the confines of the particular district, I call them bribes. I do like your idea, John. Sure, it's a bribe but it's an honest one. I would prefer to see corruption without the base ingredient of hypocrocy. The Republicans too. No amount of rhetorical outrage can cover for the fact that this is business as usual for both parties. Unfortunately we get the government that we deserve. I would think that we would deserve one that is more honest. Just because we weren't watching the hen house as much as we should have been, doesn't mean that we deserve to have a bunch of coyotes come over. We don't deserve anything we can't defend. Half the elegable voters don't vote. the half that does keep electing the people who take money from the special intrests and from WAY outside their proper constituances. And then we're supprised to see how the rouges repay their benefactors at the voters expence. Anarcy would be a more fair way to live than this system of corrupt professional polliticians. Yeah, but you will be licking the wrong side! top Back when Stalin was in charge of the USSR, they issued a new stamp with his face on it. But the stamps kept falling off the envelopes. They found out that people were spitting on the wrong side.

Link. I saw it while watching the football (well, hand-egg) game too. It looks like the weight pushed the dome down, then the snow fell into the dip, overloaded and tore the roof. Wow. That isn't going to be cheap to fix. Although I bet there are one or two on here who have the skills and equipment to sew it One of the guys on Fox Football said it looked like a James Cameron movie.

Teaparty Nation President: Restrict voting rights to property owners.
Niki1 replied to SpeedRacer's topic in Speakers Corner
I can see a slippery slope with the ones who pay more taxes wanting more of a say. Problematic. A lot of land is owned by corporations and businesses. Corporations and businesses can't vote. I would look to campaign finance reform. ONLY those who can vote can contribute to those they can vote for. Businesses and corporations can't vote. They shouldn't be allowed to contribute. Some one living in North Carolina should not be allowed to contribute to some one campaigning in Florida. We have a reprasentative form of goverenment. I think theat was supposed to mean that the people from an area, say the 1st Congressional District of whatever state, voted for one of their own to go represent them in Washington. But too often people are elected in one area because of the money they get from everywhere else in the entire country. That dilutes the voice of the people in the "1st Congressional District of whatever state." That bastardizes the original concept and turns our elected officials into whores. Sorry if this wan't directly on point. Most of the things worth doing in the world had been declared impossilbe before they were done. Probably IS a great strategy...who wants a bunch of cry babies for customers anyway! ~on a serious note, it IS great marketing. The ads are being talked about here on DizzyDot, Blue Skies, Parachutist has more letters in this months issue...supportive this time. I'd bet more people have paid more attention to the ad, than ever imagined...and to follow it up this way ~ Brilliant! P.T. Barnum said that there's no such thing as bad publicity. Not impossible, but still unlikely. Most generally occupy an arctic or sub-arctic habitat. Actually, they're at the other end of the planet. And only one or two kindss of seals are found on (in?0 Antartica. Most are found at the southern end of South America. Little things you pick up channel surfing. But if you're a bad guy, you don't find SEALs. They find you. Most of the things worth doing in the world had been declared impossilbe before they were done. Yup, although if you read the BBC article (not very technical) it appears that what you have is a bacteria that is capable of integrating Arsenic into its DNA when it is intentionally grown in an arsenic rich environment but which prefers to use phospherous. Was this grown in a lab? Found in the field? Have we been invaded? This is the way Sci-Fi movies start. Most of the things worth doing in the world had been declared impossilbe before they were done. Living in Fla, I had a "glove rule." If it was cold enough to were gloves, it was too cold to jump. The coldest I remember being on a jump was at the 100 way attemps at Pitt Meadows in '86. I was in the back corner of a Twin Otter. This was before slide up doors bevame standard. I had a sleeping bag to cover up with. It was guaranteed to keep you warm down to 75 degrees. Above zero. I could see through this thing. On the ground, it was mid 70s. Above 4 or 5 grand it started getting cold. We could see snow on all the mountains to the north. I was really cold for a long time on each jump. From then on, I always noted to myself how wonderful those slid up doors are. How smart does a phone have to be? I made phone calls 50 years ago. Was that called a smart wire? That's all I need a phone for now. Not being tied to a single location is convinient. Better than looking for a pay phone. The address book is a handy thing to have but now I don't bother to remember phone numbers. Now do you want to chech e-mail, or create documents? That's not what a phone does. Computers are getting smaller. That's what you're talking about. See what's on You Tube? Surf the web? Play games online? Sounds like computer stuff. You can watch movies on a computer. How does "Gone With the Wind" look on a 5.5 inch screen? And the same guy who sells you that "phone" at Best Buy is the same guy who wants to sell you a 55" flat screen TV. And you can hook up your computer to that 55" flat screen. OK. You can't put that 55" sveen in youir pocket and go on your way. But even at home, you can't make a PHONE CALL on the TV. A phone is not smart. The one pushing the buttons needs to be smart enough to get it to do what the person wants it to do. A thermos bottle is smater than a phone.
