  2. Hi, Im looking into writing a sponsorship letter to a company that is interested in our noob team. But one of the concerns expressed was what kind of people are skydivers as in what work do they do and what kind of people come to skydiving events besides the hardcore skydivers, The company is a friends IT support company. Im sure there has been some kind of study/search about this already so the question is if anyone knows where to find this info? Any help is welcome. Thanks, Jim

    Pulse

So far i have 40 jumps on my pulse 170. got it right from factory, not used. as most i was suprised how easy it was to pack. openings are on heading most of the time with the occasional 180, prob due to my packing. When i was loooking to buy this i read it had a weak flare. this is not true however it does have a delayed flare. when you pull sharply down it might take an extra split secont before the lift kicks in. so if you tie it like a say for example sabre then it will flare just a little later then you would be used to. Also takes some getting used to knowing where it wants to land as it flys alot farther with the sassme altitude then the sabre i was used to before it. Highly recommend to anyone starting out i think its somehting i can fly with for quite a while. Also the front risers are a little heavier then sabre but not so much more that they cant be pulled and used.
  4. The only time i ever felt a droppy feeling was on my first, and hopefully last, cutaway. Was a line over on a large stable canopy so was more or less not moving downward. after the cut there was like 2 sec of falling feeling them BAM canopy overhead. Other then that i dont remember anything like that on my first jumps, too much wind already i think
  5. Hi, looking for verification for this picture. If so whats the story with it? http://i.imgur.com/RtQsrh.jpg -Jim
  6. Why, why, WHY would you even ask? Would you overload an airplane? An elevator? A boat? A bungee cord? A zip line? A climbing rope? No? Then why would you even consider over loading your last chance at survival while skydiving???? This perplexes me. Your own statement should answer your questions for you. Over loading a reserve is sport death. I personally know someone who died when he blew a reserve to shreds due to overloading. Manufacturers limits are there for a reason. Follow them - or face the consequences. Just to make sure we are talking about the same thing.. the max exit weight it that what is listed in large print, there is a do not exceed weight aswell and that is far above what i weigh. From checking pics vs PDs websites it seems they rate their max exit weight the same as their lowest recommended weight or student weight although the do not exceed on the right side of their chart is far higher. If i was even near the do no exceed weight i would not think to jump it. Its similar to this pic from classifieds where the max exit weight is 134 but then under is another advanced training weight that is higher. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/classifieds/jump.cgi?ID=120981&view=Image;d=1
  7. hi all, got my harness and reserve used this last summer and after a quick inspection at the DZ and a ok by my instructors i bought it. the AAD had been removed but the reserve was strill in the freebag and there it sat until now. i will be getting my main next week and AAD and plan to go and and hook them up. I am doing some things to learn rigging like inspecting canopies with a rigger there and checking harnesses so i thought i would give this reserve a quick look over at home and to let it breathe a little before repack. Now to the point. the max exit weight on this is 153 pounds as stated on the tag according to google translate i weigh about 178 pounds this would give me a WL of 1.25 and be almost 25 pounds over max. Does anyone have recent experience with this reserve? is it common to overload reserves this much? is this max weight just to keep the WL at 1:1 although it can handle more? I would not want this thing ripping in half just when i need it :S i did a search and it mainly yielded older info that i could not post on. I plan to run over this with the riggers and others at our DZ but that wont be tll next week so im here for opinions. Thanks, Jim EDIT* otherwise the WL does not worry me and i was aware of it when i bought it :)
  8. I think im missing something. In US are there different categories for the AFF course itself? ive only heard of the B cat as in B category license eg:50 jumps+ ect.. Congrats on the jump you looked really stable up there, how many jumps do you have left on your AFF course?
  9. I did my AFF course last year and did a similar post asking for thoughts from other ect before my first jump. One person replied that its possible to learn too much before going into your course and i found that to be totally true. you have more then enough to think about.. Relax and enjoy the prejump excitement you are feeling right now and come back and tell us all how it went after :) The one piece of advice i think i can offer freely is enjoy the ride, theres nothing like your first time O yea and as always.... listen to instructors, the reason they are alive to jump with you today is that they know what they are doing.
  10. well hell if he can land that there is no valid reason why i chopped a perfectly good line over. besides it was only the 2 left cells..
  11. In far fewer than 10 seconds, this could happen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5rn1OI25bH4 Holy.fucking.shit +1
  12. as a nood who has the belief that he shall fly cam in the future, yes what are the EPs besides cutting ut helmet away and dealing with what comes from there? edit: i dont jump wingsuits for those that thought omgwtf 81 jumps and wingsuit :-)
  13. Well i dont jump a camera, although at 81 jumps and 1 year in the sport i should at least have 3 or 4 running by now. Especially on my wingsuit jumps. I had figured there was some other things that have to be considered before jumping cam besides something like. if it gets caught cut it away (which may or may not be right, havent checked yet) But seeing as i came across this, what are the 4 EPs for camera jumping?
  14. thanks for that awesome advice. Also.... the link is now clicky.
  15. heading to moscow late this april for some tunnel time and some jumps. Just curious what weather to expect (usually) what kinda extra gear to bring if its cold and any other wierd things i should know before going besides that in soviet russia chute pulls you. Should have a day or so to mess around there in the city as well so any cool places that are not on the tourist map are also welcome. Thanks!
  16. Since skydiving i have noticed i have picked up some habits/abilities. 1. This backpack i use to carry my laptop has a chest strap, i was not aware of its existence before skydiving. Now it is mandatory that its on and tightened so i can feel it. if not i feel like there is something wrong. 2. That same backpack. I find myself checking for the BOC hacky after i put it on. 3. I can now pack things into containers FAR more efficiently then before, suitcases are no match. 4. I now have interest in the weather. 5. If the wind blows sharply i automatically go into a tracking position. 6. I was able to control everything in my dreams before. up until recently i was no longer able to fly. luckily that has come back. 7. Dont get scared when someone drives a little over what i think is the safe limit, not sure how this is related but it works. 8. I have since developed a small fear of flying on commercial airplanes. there is no useable exit, i have no parachute, i know how fast the ground comes up. how about others?
  17. being very new to the sport the only reason i like having an AAD is if i get K.O in freefall. if an AAD saves me for any other reason then it will mean some serious consideration and retraining before going up again. Hell even if for that reason i would do everything in my power to avoid it. can always learn more :) That being said i would continue to jump without one should the day come, and should i be K.O w/o hope that Redline will come head down out of nowhere and pull my chute :P
  18. Yep thats very true. I still consider my hard deck 600m and i will do everything in my power to be under a function canopy by then. But should i be knocked out i would rather have the reserve open higher then lower. I dont rely nor count on AADs, RSLs ect, back up systems are for just that, backup.
  19. This is so far what makes me want a Vigil, They both have the same qualifying speed for firing (35ms) but open at 256m (840ft) instead of 225m (750ft) Flaws in my idea??
  20. From my limited experience i can say this. AAD is not only meant to save you should you make a mistake, but also if others make a mistake what affects you. Personally since i still jump rental gear from our club i watch them check the gear then go over it myself, check the AAD is on then forget its there. The AAD isnt really a Helmet but rather a last hope for you to survive if you are unable to save yourself. Personally i wont jump without one. This vid might give a better idea... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fmMFRywrpsM&feature=related My 2 cents
