Kamih... Welcome to our world! Like the other replies have stated, don't sweat repeating a level. Try to learn something from EVERY jump. Keep going and get that A. When you do, look me up, I'll jump with you. I jump a Sabre 2 190 loaded about 1:1. I have slow openings also, but have not encountered the slider hang up. Couldn't begin to tell you what might be causing it. My openings have averaged 800-1000 ft, and I don't do any packing tricks to make it that slow. Just recently stopped rolling the tail and that does seem to help. Those end cell closures are a pain aren't they? Chris, I bought these with under 100 jumps and they seemed to help. It must have been my jump suit shrinking in the closet and not the 10 lbs I gained. Got a new suit, better fit ( looser and polycotton) which really helped, Per Bev, it's for the older jumper with a lower center of gravity. I know that there are various groups , that represent the "over" 40, 60, 70 and 80 age brackets. Is there a group that covers the "over" 50 bracket? Mustard... I'm jumping a relatively new Sabre2 190. Since the first jump, the end cell(s) are closed which causes one to ask some questions. Spoke to 2 master riggers and PD about my concerns. Pd (and the riggers) told me it was an inherent problem with semiellipticals and to be aware of it. I look for it on every jump. Other than that I LOVE the Sabre 2.. Great openings, great landings, decent penetration, etc.

The111... I normally wear my watch on the left wrist, but when I'm jumping I switch to the right (alti on left) . If I'm not wearing gloves, (not very often), I just make sure that the watch is covered by the jumpsuit cuff. With gloves, I cover with the cuff and the glove.

Reg... Get the license and ENJOY the experience. I've done 6 so far, (would have done more but the damn weather gods blow). Go to Kmart, or walmart and pick up some chemlites and bicycle strobs. Way cheaper than gear store. I used small chemlites from the bait store and clear taped them to my alti. Using a glow in the dark alti now. I tape a small keychain lite to my thumb to check out my canopy after opening. Pay attention to the briefing, each dz is different in the way they work nite jumps. Most of all...HAVE FUN. Let's me think, oh yeah it's ethyl. no wait a minute it's methyl. Maybe it is ethyl. Wow, the keyboard is starting to get blurry. Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, Shouting "...holy shit...what a ride!"

I hate to bust your bubble, but although Pistol Pete was a GREAT player, Bob Cousy, Guy Rodgers and others were using behind the pack passes, etc., long before Pete M. came into his own. You're right, he passed way before his time. As for saying that being 7' tall is all it takes, the list of 7 fts. that didn't even make the pros is long and varied. Acceptable or not, the only player on your list that they changed the rules for, because of his talent, was WILT. Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, Shouting "...holy shit...what a ride!"

I've put 200+ jumps on my Sabre 2 190 and have had end cell closure on every one. Openings are great, but the 90 deg turns were disturbing at first. Talked to riggers and to PD and was told that the closure was do to its design. As the other responses indicated, slight riser and/or toggle input and they open right away. I wear gloves on all my jumps, batting type in summer and leather (with thinsulate) in the winter. Went to the men's department of a department store and found the leather gloves that fit me. This year I picked up a pair of winter golf gloves and wear them with thin woven liners. The coldest jump has been -20 f at altitude and I didn't have any problems. I've tried the latex route and found that they caused my hands to sweat , which combined with the wind chill was not good. Although I'm not a Crw dog or an instructor, you might consider doing riser (front and rear) turns to see the difference between those and toggle turns. Be conservative. Sabre2 question born from another post..
philly51 replied to ifics's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I've been jumping a sabre2 190 since April, about 200 jumps and never had a slammer. On all my openings, at least one end cell is collapsed, but I can handle that because I look for it on every jump. Contacted PD and I was told that this is a common problem. Still love the canopy and I'm glad I bought it. Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, Shouting "...holy shit...what a ride!" -
My first was a PD 230 9 cell, F111. Used (85 jumps) but in great shape. Great openings, easy to handle and it snatched me back from the "Jaws of Pain" on more than one occasion. Now jumping Sabre 2 190. Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, Shouting "...holy shit...what a ride!"

I wouldn't say scattered, we all pretty much landed in the same area, just not where we intended. All in all it was a great jump, and I hope to do it again next year.
